Editor’s Note

Hey Menzies,

Holidays are fast approaching and assessments are due any day now, so take a quick study break and enjoy The Voice Issue 8!

Block Wars part 3 happened the other week, with the blocks competing in debates. Unlike previous years, each team only had 10 minutes to prepare their arguments and a minute and a half each to speak. All of the blocks brought up great points for their arguments and we got so many wiretaps from the evening.

A vs B - Arts is a real degree

A affirmative - B Negative - A wins C vs E - Attractiveness is more important than intelligence

E affirmative - C Negative - E wins Exec vs RA - RMC should be a dry college

Exec affirmative - RA Negative - RAs win B vs C - Washing tokens should be free

B affirmative - C Negative - B win E vs A - RAs are more important than exec

A affirmative - E Negative - A wins

We are currently working with college’s new marketing team in order to share the photos both around college and externally. This means two things for you guys, first of all, we should be creating a new and easy way for you to access digital copies of photos you see in The Voice. Secondly, it means that some Voice photos may appear on RMCs official pages. If you have any reservations regardingthis, pleaseletusknow. If you don’t tell us, we can’t do anything about it.

Interblock Debating

Be the Next Voice of RMC

While this year is by no means coming to a close, we are starting to prepare things for the end of 2022 and for 2023 (yes, we are that organised.)

As we go into our third year, Susanna and I will be giving up our editorship of The Voice. As such, college will be looking for new people to take on the job.

The Voice is, in our opinion, the best job on campus. It involves little more than going to college events and a basic knowledge of Google Slides. It’s a great thing to do with a friend, so we recommend doing it in a pair.

If you’re interested, let us know! We’re open to answering any of your questions.

Submit Photos for The Echo

Planning for The Echo, RMCs yearbook, is already underway (shoutout to our mailing list.) While The Echo will contain all of The Voice photos from events throughout the year, we would also love to hear from you! If you have any so if you have photos, good ones, bad ones, or anything in between, please send them to us over Facebook so we can feature them.

Here are some examples from 2019’s Echo.

TLDR: Cleaning Rules at RMC

You may have seen new signs up in the communal kitchens and bathrooms around college, as well as an email from Becky about the new cleaning expectations here at college. With all the new rules going up we decided to make a quick “Too Long Didn’t Read” of the new rules.

● Be respectful of your neighbours and their space. Wipe down surfaces and put away anything you use in the kitchens. Try to avoid leaving things on the drying racks for long periods.

● Label your stuff. If you have food in the fridge, put your name on it. If not, you risk housekeeping taking it and throwing it out.

● Keep personal items out of the bathrooms. Don’t leave soap shampoo etc in the bathroom. Also clean your hair from the shower. Please.

● The cleaners come to rooms once a week to vacuum your rooms. The day will depend on your block and there are signs around your block to tell you which day.

● They also clean the kitchens daily and the bathrooms twice daily.
