FROM THE EDITORS

Older than the bricks in the Original Blocks, The Voice is now in it’s 40th year – this year, however, we’re shaking it up. Think new car smell, sleek design, and a two horsepower engine; specially tuned to create the perfect blend of information and entertainment.

As The Voice chronicles your time at Menzies, we welcome all contributions: quotes, photos, drawings, poetry, short stories – basically anything you can fit under a photocopier (just no buttocks, please).

Our aim is to make The Voice something you talk about, share over a lazy breakfast on weekends, and keep as a memento to remind you of the highs, the lows and in-betweens.

Fresh. Bold. With it. — this is The Voice 2014

MOVING IN

The end of your Summer vacation, Menzies – a newfangled location; Share one last meal with your ‘rents, bid farewell in suspense, Thus begins Fresher Orientation.

INTRO TO THE RANCH

The Ranch packs sleaze astronomical – an establishment quite economical; The cougars are there, and men with no hair, It is a love quite paradoxical!

TOUR DE MAC

What perfectly wonderful weather, For a tour of the campus tied together; Milk, pears, and flour, in a meteor shower, A bond you just couldn’t sever.

FRESHER DANCE

Attendence at U-Bar a must, Our competition eyed with distrust; All hope placed on Cat, who could dance the earth flat But alas - defeat by pelvic thrust

SCAV HUNT

That crazy romp through the city; challenges so varied and witty all had much fun 'till the harbour swim was done and then people were decidedly gritty !

BLOCK WARS

It was meant to be a bit of fun Block rivalry out in the sun, but the freshers weren't shy, hit Evie in the eye Do we even know which Block won?

HARBOUR CRUISE

T'was a marvellous night on the sea , with some overly friendly employees Give the Captain a wink, He'll shout you a drink I think we need a new cruise company!

TOUR DE MAC

The Freshers took a tour of Macquarie if you don't like flour and eggs I'm sorry But next year will be soon, And You'll be spraying the goon and watching the new Freshers scurry!

O-Week

‘Tis the end of O week, It’s rather sad

All the great fun that has been had Memories created, friendships formed

Bonds of forever, not to be torn

The week has been long, jam packed with stuff

Some of it easy, most of it tough

One thing is true, this week is a blast

A time to be grateful, and not downcast

At first it is awkward, faces unseen

Beginnings unknown, a slate that is clean

New direction soon to be sought

The weather a changing between cold and hot

From nights at the ranch, to time in the City

Getting to explore the wonders of Sydney

Embracing nature, in more ways than thought “Would I rather be at DLC?” I think not

The haircuts were awful, Scav challenges obscene

And learning to dance was quite the scene

Grey beach days, no volleyball, all quite sad

But still, bonding experiences were had

Clothes were dirtied, some of them soiled

DLC’s attempted invasion was foiled

A room redone, right over there

And making strangers stop and stare

A tour of the Uni was on the cards

More than was bargained for, I’m sure it was hard

Tied together, teamwork essential

The egging and flouring completely incidental

A trip of the harbor soon came along

Everyone went crazy for the fresher song

The costumes spectacular, looking quite nautical

The effort put in some was nothing but laudable

Not wearing clothes, a recurring theme

End of the week, we’re all out of steam

Tired and weary, but still full of life

We all made it through the pain and strife

Now O-Week is over, the time is nigh

Uni begins soon, time to study and try stay on top of everything, every assignment & test

I wish you all the best as you start your glorious quest

At first it is awkward, faces unseen

Beginnings unknown, a slate that is clean
