Welcome to 2026—a fresh beginning filled with promise, purpose, and the blessing of doing this work together. As we step into January, our hearts naturally turn with reverence and gratitude for the legacy that made our sisterhood possible. Founders’ Day on January 15 is always a moment that grounds us, reminding us of the courage, brilliance, and vision of the Soror Robyn D. Murphy young women who opened the doors we now walk through. Basileus This year, Omega Xi Omega will proudly join Pi Tau Omega, Tau Alpha Omega, Omega Epsilon Omega, Alpha Gamma Lambda Omega, and Alpha Gamma Tau Omega for our Combined Joint Founders’ Day Celebration on January 15 at Savoy. It will be a beautiful evening of fellowship and collective joy as we honor 118 years of scholarship, service, and sisterhood. January also offers us rich opportunities for growth and development. On January 14 at 8 PM, we will host a virtual Parliamentarian Workshop with GLR Regional Parliamentarian, Soror Jessica Price Smith, who will pour into us with her guidance and expertise. Later this month on January 29th at 6 PM, we will also gather for a Leadership Development Workshop facilitated by Soror Danielle Williams, of the GLR Leadership Development Committee, offering each of us the chance to strengthen our skills as leaders within our chapter and within our everyday lives. This new year also ushers in new leadership within Omega Xi Omega. Please join me in welcoming the newest members of our 2026 Executive Committee: Soror Nathifa Riley-Cochran, Pecunius Grammateus; Soror Kelli Hackel, Epistoleus; Soror Sandra Boykins, Ivy Leaf Reporter; Soror Michelle Williams-Ward, Hodegos; and, Soror Edna Clark, Philacter. We are grateful for their willingness to serve and excited to see how their gifts will strengthen our work! Finally, it gives me great joy to congratulate and introduce the inaugural Board of Directors of The Collective Pearl Foundation, Omega Xi Omega’s non-profit arm and a major milestone in our chapter’s growth. The elected directors of the Foundation Board are: Sorors Linda Ewing, Pauline George, Cyd Grace, Michella King, Carla Postell, Pamela Tinsley, and Tuanda Ward-Holmes. Additionally, the following Sorors serve on the Board by virtue of their chapter offices: Soror Kimberley R. Will, Anti-Basileus; Soror Charo Earle, Tamiouchos; and Soror Juanae Stephen, Fundraising Chairman and me as Basileus. Together, this inaugural Board will help guide a new era for OXO—expanding our capacity to serve, elevate, and uplift the communities we cherish. Sorors, I am excited for all that lies ahead of us in 2026. May we continue to move with grace, unity, and purpose as we honor our past, embrace our present, and prepare for the incredible possibilities before us.

January isn’t about rushing, it’s about being present, intentional, and trusting that what is ahead can be bigger and brighter than what’s behind. 2026 invites you to move with clarity and courage. Let go of what no longer serves you. Make room for what aligns with your purpose. Progress comes not from perfection, but from showing up, leaning into what matters, and trusting the process.

Opportunities are waiting. Doors are opening. Connections are forming. You don’t have to have it all figured out today. What matters is that you are ready to receive, ready to walk in faith, and willing to move forward with intention. Empower Our Families Mimosas, Muu Muus, and Menopause: Omega Xi Omega Supports Health and Wellness On November 07, 2025, Omega Xi Omega Chapter’s Empower Our Family Committee hosted “Mimosas, Muu Muus, and Menopause” during its Strengthen Our Sisterhood Friendsgiving celebration, honoring its Cultured Pearls (sorors aged 55+). This uplifting wellness session encouraged informed decision-making, strengthening sorors in their quest to take charge of their health.

Soror Dr. Crystal R. Martin-Gardner, board-certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine, led a powerful discussion on the myths and realities of menopause, highlighting common physical and emotional changes. She discussed health risks—including osteoporosis, heart disease, and diabetes—and emphasized how medications, lifestyle changes, and wellness practices help manage symptoms, reducing long-term complications. An atmosphere of candid conversation, laughter, and sisterly love, sorors departed empowered – carrying valuable medical insights to support their health journeys across every stage of menopause. 11 This gathering truly embodied the spirit of our sisterhood and our commitment to the well-being of every woman in our community.

Enhance Our Environment What Documents should you Shred and Why? The New Year is the perfect time to start fresh and take control of your document clutter. Many of us accumulate sensitive papers that could put our personal or business information at

risk if not properly disposed of. Shredding these documents reduces clutter, helps protect your privacy, and prevents identity theft. Here’s a guide on which documents to shred and why it matters. Why Shredding Documents Is Essential: Protect Against Identity Theft: Thieves can use personal information on documents like bank statements and credit card bills to steal your identity. Shredding these documents ensures that your private information remains secure. Ensure Legal Compliance: Businesses are often required to follow privacy laws, such as HIPAA or FACTA, which mandate the proper disposal of sensitive customer data. Shredding ensures compliance with these regulations. Reduce Clutter and Stay Organized: Eliminating unnecessary documents helps you stay organized, making it easier to find important files when needed. Documents That Should Be Shredded: Financial Statements Expired bank and credit card statements- these contain account numbers, names, and addresses that could be used for identity theft. Old receipts can also contain personal information such as credit card numbers and signatures. Tax Forms – Any tax forms older than seven years should be shredded to prevent potential fraud. Medical Records Prescription labels- these can reveal sensitive health information. Insurance documents- shredding ensures that your medical history remains private. Legal Documents Old or expired contracts or leases may contain personal information about you or your business partners. Old legal correspondence- this can include sensitive information about ongoing cases or legal matters.

Personal Information Social Security cards- it is important to dispose of old or unnecessary Social Security cards properly. Canceled checks - these may contain personal information, such as bank account numbers and signatures. Old IDs or passports - it is important to shred these documents to prevent identity theft. Financial Records Bank statements - these may contain sensitive information about your finances. The credit card offers and statements- shredding these can help prevent identity theft. Business Documents Client lists - this information should be kept confidential and securely disposed of when no longer needed. Employee records - it is important to properly dispose of old employee records to protect their personal information. Utility Bills and Receipts The bills may contain personal information, such as your address and account number. Receipts - it is important to shred receipts with sensitive information, such as credit card numbers or signatures.

By categorizing these documents, you can systematically review what’s necessary to keep and securely shred the rest.

Advocate For Social Justice For generations, Social Security has represented a sacred promise between the federal government and the American people. It is not a handout. It is not a gift. It is an earned benefit—one that working people have paid into with every paycheck over decades of labor. Recently, there has been growing concern about proposals and discussions coming from the current administration and Congress that could restructure how Social Security benefits are classified or delivered, including language referring to them as “federal benefits payments.” While terminology may sound technical, words matter—especially when they signal a shift in how earned benefits are perceived and potentially treated in the future. For many communities—particularly seniors, people with disabilities, widows, and communities of color—Social Security is a lifeline. It is the difference between stability and hardship. Any attempt to reframe, reduce, privatize, or weaken Social Security threatens economic justice and the dignity of those who worked hard and played by the rules. Let us be clear: We have already paid into Social Security. These funds were earned through decades of contributions, and they belong to the people—not political agendas.

Why This Matters to Social Justice? Social Security is one of the most successful anti-poverty programs in U.S. history. It disproportionately supports: Older adults on fixed incomes Women, who often receive lower retirement savings due to wage gaps. Black and Brown communities, who rely more heavily on Social Security as a primary source of retirement income. Any changes that weaken Social Security widen existing economic disparities and undermine generational stability.

What Can We Do? Advocacy does not stop at the ballot box. As members of Advocate for Social Justice, we must remain vigilant and engaged. Here are concrete steps we can take:

Stay Informed Monitor proposed legislation and policy language related to Social Security. Do not rely solely on headlines—read, ask questions, and share accurate information. Contact Elected Officials Call, write, and email your U.S. Senators and Representatives. Let them know clearly: Hands off Social Security. Remind them that these benefits are earned, not optional. Support Advocacy Organizations Partner with and uplift organizations that are actively working to protect Social Security and retirement security for all. Educate Our Communities Host Forums, share resources, and talk to younger generations about why Social Security matters to everyone—not just retirees. Vote With Purpose Local, state, and federal elections matter. Research candidates’ positions on Social Security and economic justice before casting your vote. Our Charge Advocate for Social Justice was created to ensure equity, fairness, and dignity for all people. Protecting Social Security aligns directly with that mission. We owe it to those who came before us—and those coming after us—to stand firm.

Social Security is not a federal favor. It is a promise earned. And it is worth fighting for.

Uplift OurLocal Community New Beginnings for 2026 As we have the opportunity to usher in a new year, let’s do so by leaving old baggage and burdens behind. Reflection on the hard fought blessings of yesterday is good so long as we don’t park there. There are many hills yet to climb, many acts of service to be accomplished. Uplift- let’s dissect this for further analysis: U= use our resources; including but not limited to our knowledge, time, and talent with prudence and potency in 2026; P= preface each project, mission, and/ or act of service with prayer, practicality, passion, and power; L= let us listen to the voiced needs of the community and rise to meet them; I= impregnate our collective minds with improved ways to complete established projects; F= free our minds also to novel and trailblazing ways to engage and serve; T= take what we have to our FATHER and ask HIM to multiply it as only HE can, and task us to review what has been done AND propel us to aim even higher for the next project. Get ready once again to become change agents for positive transformation in Macomb County. As we seek to uplift others, we elevate ourselves in the process. To GOD be the glory for the things in store for this committee, our sisterhood, and our community. It only takes a spark to get a fire going.

OXO Sips Pretty & Celebrates Our Charterversary OXO truly sipped pretty at this year’s Sipping Pretty – AKA Holiday Edition Christmas Party, a joyful celebration filled with creativity, laughter, and sisterly love. This festive gathering was proudly presented as a joint partnership between the Sisterly Relations Committee and the Membership Committee, reflecting our shared commitment to connection, engagement, and meaningful fellowship. Each Soror had the opportunity to decorate her own glass using our signature colors of pink and green, adding holiday sparkle, creativity, and style. The friendly competition was on as we admired each other’s designs, with the prettiest glass earning a special prize. From elegant touches to bold, festive statements, the creativity in the room was unmatched. Beyond the fun and festivities, the afternoon held special meaning as we raised our glasses in honor of our chapter’s Charterversary. Together, we paused to celebrate our legacy, reflect on the bonds that unite us, and toast to the continued excellence, service, and sisterhood that define our chapter. The afternoon was truly a beautiful blend of holiday cheer and heartfelt connection. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making Sipping Pretty – AKA Holiday Edition a memorable celebration. We’re the team behind the scenes capturing the energy, achievements, and excitement that make our chapter shine. Our committee prepares and submits articles, highlights member accomplishments, and publicizes chapter programs and activities throughout the year. From writing press releases to photographing key events, we help ensure that every milestone is documented and celebrated. We also play an important role in maintaining the chapter’s image within the community. By working closely with chapter chairmen, the Historian, and the Anti‑Basileus, we help preserve the history we’re creating together. If you enjoy writing, photography, creativity, or simply being in the know, the Publicity Committee is a fun and meaningful place to get involved.
