GIRLS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT u11 iaps
8 October 2025

Welcome from

The Portsmouth Grammar School was founded in 1732 by Dr William Smith, Physician and Mayor of Portsmouth, who was determined that, like him, the young people of Portsmouth should have access to a transformative education, and flourish through spirit, vision, and learning.
Nearly 300 years on, we remain true to a founder’s vision today: a forward-looking school located in the historic heart of Portsmouth. We encourage our pupils to envision their life at 25, and we prepare them to make a positive contribution in whatever pathway they choose.
We want each of our pupils to thrive, to enjoy learning and to be prepared for what lies ahead. Our guiding commitment is to support every pupil to be happy and successful, in that order.
Meeting our pupils and staff is the best way to understand what sets The Portsmouth Grammar School apart. We warmly invite you to visit us and look forward to welcoming you here in person.

INDEPENDENT ASSOCIATION OF PREP SCHOOLS
First and foremost, sport is about participation and enjoyment. Sport is an incredibly important part of the personal development of children.
Thanks to our eager and enthusiastic membership, over 22,000 children take part in the IAPS Sport programme every year. With 22 sports to choose from and over 170 events organised annually, there are plenty of opportunities for our member schools to get involved in.
Whether this is your first time at an IAPS event, or you have been entering them for many years, we hope you enjoy the competition and good luck.
IAPS SPORT

IAPS believes that the welfare and wellbeing of all children (young people under the age of 18) and adults at risk attending an IAPS event is of the highest concern. All such persons have the right to safety and protection and any suspicions, concerns or allegations of harm will be taken seriously and will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
IAPS expects all adults who are engaged with the delivery of sports events to fully comply with safeguarding procedures as laid out in the IAPS Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, and the KCSiE document (these are available on our website: sport.iaps.uk/safeguarding).
IAPS expects all coaches present to be DBS checked and have received relevant safeguarding training at their school/club.
IAPS expects that all adults attending events have read the IAPS code of conduct, photo policy & anti bullying policy. These are available to read and download from our website here: sport.iaps.uk/safeguarding.
If you have any safeguarding concerns today, please don’t hesitate to speak to Emily Connell, Mike Kershaw or a member of the organising team.

Code of conduct for spectators
Where permitted, we are delighted to welcome spectators to attend IAPS events.
As a spectator/parent at an IAPS sports event, you have a responsibility to:
1.Be a positive role model and lead by example. Children are involved in sport for their enjoyment and without undue spectator pressure.
2.Encourage children to play by the rules and respect the officials and their decisions
3.Respect the officials and their decisions at all times. Video evidence from spectators will not be accepted in any cases to dispute decisions.
4.Respect the coaches and their decisions, they give their time, energy and experience to coach your children.
5.Refrain from any form of abuse towards players, officials and fellow spectators.
6.Be friendly and respectful to the opposition.
7.Teach children that effort and teamwork are as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
8.Turn defeat into victory by helping children work towards skill improvement and a positive sporting attitude.
9.Be aware that IAPS events have comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures, available on our site: https://iaps.uk/sport/safeguarding.html
10.Relax and enjoy the event.
IAPS wants all competitions to run without any negative incidents. Excitement and emotions can run high at events, not least amongst the supporters. Unpleasant and inappropriate behaviour is very rarely seen but you should be aware that IAPS retains the right to ask you to leave the event, if you fail to comply with the code of conduct.

A draw in the knockout stages result in a period of golden goal followed by three penalties from each team.
PGS will endeavour to appoint referees for the tournament. All schools must be prepared to referee a neutral match if necessary.
Key Rules
The start/restart - the ball can be taken in any direction and the opposition must be five yards away. A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick off or drop ball (drop ball is used to restart play after an injury)
Offsides – there will be no offsides.
Free Kicks – defending players must be five yards from the ball.
Penalty Kicks – are awarded for a foul inside the box. All players except the taker and goalkeeper must be outside the area.
Touchline Re-Starts
Kick-ins and dribble-ins will be introduced instead of throw-ins to create more technical opportunities for players with the ball at their feet, allow for more effective playing time, and to help reduce the amount of time the ball is in the air during a match.
When the whole of the ball passes over the whole of the touchline, on the ground or in the air, instead of a throw-in, a pass-in / dribble-in is awarded
The kicker that takes the pass-in / dribble-in may touch the ball again before it is touched by another player
At the moment of delivering the ball:
The ball must be stationary on the touchline at the point where it left the pitch; only the kicker may be off the pitch
All opponents must stand at least 5 yards from the point on the touchline where the pass-in or /dribble-in is to be taken from
A goal cannot be scored directly from a pass-in
The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves
A player can score from a dribble in, however the shot cannot come from the first touch of the ball.
Goal Kicks – can be taken from anywhere inside the penalty area. The ball must leave the penalty area to be in play If it does not leave, the kick can be retaken
Kicking out of hand – goal keepers cannot kick out of hand. They must throw, roll or play from the floor
Retreat line – there will be no retreat line.
Deliberate Header Restart
Deliberately heading the ball is an offence punishable by an indirect free kick
The indirect free kick is taken at the point where the ball was deliberately headed, except:
Where a player deliberately heads the ball within their own penalty area, the referee will stop the game and restart with an indirect free kick to the opposition from the nearest side line of the penalty area where the offence took place.
