I, Esperanza Engle-Tseng, will Laila Garibo to lead her team of artists and photographers as best as she can and only see smooth deadlines during her time as Head of Design. To JJ, Haylie, and Sivan, a thank you for being great leaders and I wish you good luck on all future endeavors. To all graphics members, thank you for your work on the newspaper and for pushing through late or absent requests. Finally, to everyone in The Pen, I hope the next year brings only clear skies! Thank you!
I, Brian Hong, will the next graphics team to keep note of incoming messages and have their notifications turned on, especially during the end of the year (don’t be like me please). Thank you to everyone in the newspaper team for their patience and diligence. I hope everything goes smoothly for everyone next year.
I, Wendy Hu, will Alyssa Kwok to have a great year full of beautiful website designs and hopefully no more image copyright horror stories. Thank you to everyone on newspaper, especially JJ, Haylie, and Sivan!!!
I, Colin Kim, will the future writers to complete their outlines and edits on time without the necessity of reminders from staff. To Haylie and Sivan, thank you for all of your hard work during your time at Peninsula. I wish the two of you the best of luck post graduation, as I know you’ll accomplish tons as writers. To all team members, thank you for all of the effort you have put into this school years newspaper, for The Pen would be what it is without everyone’s help.
I, Haylie Kim, will the amazing future editors-in-chief a stress-free year filled with lots of laughter and joy. In addition to a great year of newspaper, I am certain you will both have a wonderful senior year and make many lasting memories. As editors, you two have always been spectacular examples for the entire staff, and it has been a joy to watch you guys grow. I am confident that you guys will lead with empathy and make your impact on both this publication and whatever you chose to do in the future. To Elyssa, you are so incredibly sweet and I am consistently impressed by your effort. I wish you nothing but the best with Indesign (fingers crossed), and I will definitely miss your friendly demeanor and great style. To Elena, your layouts were always so impressive and your hard-work never went overlooked. Your creativity and dedication have made such a difference to the paper, and I know you will continue to make this publication something truly special. If you two need anything, never hesitate to reach out! To the wonderful future managing editors, Selah and Halynn, I will you the most beautifully aligned deadlines and many moments of laughter amid the chaos of newspaper. Selah, you are perhaps the most kind-hearted and genuine person I have ever met, and I will you many more great adventures (and maybe a few less airplane rides). Your positivity and warmth make everyone around you feel comfortable, and newspaper has been so much brighter because of you. To our incredibly well-informed copy editor, Billy, I hope you receive at least decently beautiful articles to begin your year off. Reading your articles each issue has been a privilege, and I will miss your incredible bibliographies and sense of humor. You bring so much intelligence and personality to the paper, and I know you will continue to make everyone laugh while somehow still catching every grammatical mistake imaginable. To Melina, your creativity and positive energy have always made newspaper more fun. Thank you for always being willing to help out whenever needed. To our wonderful editors, Celanie, Sydney, Khalil, Emmersyn, Olivia, Parisa and James, I will you guys writers who care about getting articles in on time and a smooth-sailing year. It has been a joy watching you all grow as writers, and it is abundantly clear just how much talent, dedication and creativity each of you brings to this publication. I know newspaper is in good hands. To Adam, Simon and Mason, thank you for a great year (and for putting up with Sivan and I all the while). All of you are incredibly impressive and I know you guys will continue to succeed in whatever paths you take. To Anza, thank you for always bringing such positivity and kindness into 6th period. Have so much fun at Pitzer! To Sivan, reconnecting with you these past two years has been one of the greatest gifts. I will miss having a friend that gets all my references (even if I sometimes do not get yours) and learning more about SNL each day. You are genuinely the sweetest person I know, and I just know you will have the best time ever at Kenyon! I will you the best roommate who loves visitors, as I am already planning (can I be an honorary owl?). And finally, to JJ, I struggle to put my gratitude into words, but in short – thank you. Stumbling into newspaper at the end of sophomore year has been one of the best things that has happened to me. Thank you for pushing me to grow and creating such a welcoming environment for all of us. I truly cannot imagine my high school experience without newspaper, and I am endlessly grateful for everything you have done for all of us.
I, Mason Kim, will James Pan to finish his outlines on time. To Haylie and Sivan, thank you for your never-ending chillness and resiliency. Even when things were falling apart (like from copyright strikes), both of you always pulled through. To the Opinion section (and anyone who has been through it), thank you for all of your hard work and creativity. Particularly to Billy, thank you for always being early, giving 110%, and I know you will do great as Copy Editor next year. Finally, thank you Mrs. DeMeyer for your enthusiasm and kindness. I’ve always enjoyed my time in your room and I will miss it.
I, Allison Kumamoto, will the Ads Team to complete their assignments without falling ill to senioritis. To Melina, thank you for being such an enthusiastic and driven leader of our team. I hope to see you succeed in the rest of your high school career. And thank you to JJ for running such an important program that we all hold close to our hearts. To everyone in The Pen, thank you for taking your time and putting it towards something so special. I hope you all flourish next year!

I, Adam Lu, will the incoming writers to not use AI, drop their phones off of cliffs, or to dream that they uploaded their articles to the article tracker on time. I also would like the incoming staff to keep a secret snack drawer going. Thank you to Sivan, Haylie and Mrs. DeMeyer for running the show.
I, Sivan Stoler, will the future editors in chief of The Pen, Elena and Elyssa, an exciting year of unbridled creativity and confidence, smooth InDesign-ing and a neverending stream of Focus ideas. You two shined as editors, and I know you will make Volume 36 of The Pen the best yet. Elena, it was so special to see you blossom from a passionate writer to a resilient editor. You have amazed me with your dedication to The Pen. Elyssa, I know your kindness and upbeat attitude will continue leading you to success. I will miss your pink heart emojis!! I will Selah and Halynn beautifully organized spreadsheets, deadlines that are respected and a senior year overflowing with possibility. Selah, you are one of the sweetest people I have ever met and I am always impressed by everything you do. Halynn, I will miss your vibrant ideas and sunny demeanor! To Billy, I will a well-loved AP style book and exciting articles. You have one of the most unique voices I have ever read, and I know this will take you far both on The Pen and in life. I will miss arguing with you in Google Doc comments. I will Melina a bajillion dollars in ad revenue, confident and prepared Ads members and the best senior year ever. Thank you for reinvigorating Ads this year and always leading with optimism and creativity. I cannot wait to see all the incredible things you will accomplish. I will Laila a terrific, long career on newspaper and many easily-trackable photography subjects. To Celanie, Sydney, Khalil, Emmersyn, Olivia, Parisa and James, I will meetings full of laughter and perfectly aligned InDesign margins. To Cayden, I will invincible thumbs so you can continue beating The Best Mobile Game Ever. To Mason, Adam and Simon, I will a wonderful life after high school and an uninstalled InDesign app on your computers. Thank you all for putting up with Haylie and me as we navigated this year and for showing up for newspaper, even when it meant staying at Mochinut until 8pm. To Anza, I will so much success at Pitzer! You are one of the smartest and most genuine people I have ever met. I am so excited to see everything you will do in the future. One day you will cure my insomnia! To Haylie, I will as many turmeric shots as you have sick friends, a new sitcom to obsess over and a college life that is everything you dreamed it would be. Everyday this year I have thanked Mrs. Kraake for pairing us up for that project in 6th grade and Art History for trauma-bonding us. Most of all, though, I’ve been thankful for you, thankful for your bringing me back into The Fold, always letting me rant in the passenger seat of your beautiful car and, of course, being my friend. I will be visiting you at USC. I mean it. Finally, to JJ, there is no way I can accurately thank you or will you enough to cover everything you have done for me, but I will try. I will you a ten year long sabbatical where you don’t have to worry about publication-related disasters (or, really, any disasters), an eternally clean classroom, reliable publication staffs and a mountain of mint hydrangeas. Thank you for supporting Haylie and me this year and for always believing in me throughout high school (even during my brief, sophomore-year-induced insanity). I am constantly in awe of your patience and ability to balance an endless list of responsibilities with being such a warm and kind person. I hope that one day I will be a quarter of the adult you are. You are objectively the best teacher I have ever had.
