Raising the Flag - Truth and Reconciliation September 30th was National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. It was a day to learn and reflect on the history of indigenous peoples in Canada. The orange flag was raised at Council Chambers to acknowledge reconciliation and show the County of Brant stands with all First Nations of Canada. “We raise this flag to recognize the ongoing trauma caused by residential and day schools, and remember those who were lost, survivors and their families.
We encourage all citizens to take action to become better educated about this tragic history and to build a better future together. Bottle Drive update for sideline capes. This adventure started in March of 2020. We had a huge response at the beginning with so many of you supporting the drive, it was awesome. THANK YOU to everyone who donated. With all the ups and downs that came with covid the bottle drive and search for affordable capes Paris, Ontario

took a back seat. Then this past spring we had a huge donation of empties from Trout Lake / Inner kip Quarries. This donation basically doubled our efforts. We are now very happy to announce that we raised just over $1500 to purchase sideline capes for the PDHS football program. Capes are printed and ready to go. Donations have covered 20 capes, hangers, 2 bags to transport to out of town games. Also Canadian Tire in Paris donated a coat rack for the equipment room to hang them. Thanks again to all who donated. GO PANTHERS GO !!!

Local Coaches Still Needed PMHA is actively accepting Coaching applications for ALL local league divisions for the upcoming 2021-22 season. The growth and development of our members starts with those who offer their time and efforts. Without the time and efforts of our coaches, an organization like PMHA is unable to function.

Public Fundraising Campaign The County of Brant is excited to launch the public fundraising campaign for the Cowan Community Health Hub. The Health Hub was recently re-named in honor of the Cowan Foundation’s major $800,000 donation. The Health Hub will attract new family physicians to the community and be home to a number of health care and social service organizations.
The Hub is designed to encourage collaboration amongst the organizations to deliver a more seamless and integrated approach to health care and mental health care for residents. The County of Brant designed the Health Hub to also be a healthy building. The building, located at 25 Curtis Ave. N., Paris, features many sustainable and green features including vegetated “green” roof, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and energy efficient fixtures. Proof of Vaccinations
Distillery Lane Trail temporary closure and washroom update at Paris Lions Park Distillery Lane Trail will be closed starting September 20, 2021 for six weeks due to sanitary line replacement. The washrooms by the Walter Williams Amphitheatre will be closed while this work is completed. Washrooms are available at the Paris Firefighters Pavilion (located in the north end of Lions Park past the ball diamonds) until October 4th.
The Province of Ontario has issued a mandatory proof of vaccination requirement which comes into effect on September 22, 2021. The purpose of the proof of vaccination requirement is to help control the spread of COVID-19 in the community and protect the health and wellbeing of citizens, healthcare workers and the healthcare system. The proof of vaccination requirement requires people to provide proof of being fully vaccinated* prior to entering the indoor area of recreational facilities such as the County’s community centres and arenas. All Ontarians receiving a vaccine, whether at first dose or second dose, are provided a receipt at the time of vaccination. A paper copy of the receipt is provided on site and an email version is sent to the email address provided by the vaccine recipient for the person’s records. Vaccination receipts can be downloaded or printed through the COVID-19 vaccination provincial portal https://covid19.ontariohealth.ca/ or obtained by calling the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1.833.943.3900. In October, the Province of Ontario will offer a digital means to provide proof of vaccination.

As we ease into autumn and the leaves fall, it is a great time to check your trees for gypsy moth egg masses. Removing the egg masses now can help to prevent infestation in the spring. If your tree has gypsy moth egg masses: 1. Place a catchment container below the egg mass 2. Use a scraper tool to remove the egg mass from the surface. Ensure that all eggs are scraped. Try not to leave any residual eggs in bark ridges or crevices. 3. Empty the contents of your catchment container of bag into a bucket of soapy water. 4. Leave eggs sitting in the bucket for a day or two, then dispose of the contents. BUSINESS Twin Ford Parts Centre Coming To Paris As Distribution Pivot Takes Shape
“In order to improve customer satisfaction and expedite parts delivery time to dealers, Ford will be opening a new parts depot in Eastern Ontario and a new location west of Toronto to continue servicing Canada’s most heavily populated region,” Ford Canada spokeswoman Rose Pao told Automotive News Canada in an email last year. “As a result of the two new locations in Ontario, Ford will no longer operate out of the current Bramalea Parts Distribution Center once the new locations open.” see full article https://fordauthority.com/2021/09/ford -parts-center-coming-to-ottawa-asdistribution-pivot-takes-shape/
According to Ford authority’s website: To better rationalize the distribution of parts, the company will spend $95 million to construct a 500,000 square-foot building in Casselman, Ontario. Its twin is slated to be built in Paris Ontario, and both are expected to fully replace the Bramalea building, which is a 900,000 square-foot structure.

Accessible, open community spaces, quiet study rooms, and technology labs will blend with heritage features like original brick and stone. The original opera hall will be restored to its former glory and equipped for modern performances and live events.
“There
is a wonderful synergy with combining these two projects” says Brant Mayor David Bailey. “A main library with a performance space like this will be a huge asset for all County residents, and will kick start the rejuvenation of Paris’ upper town.” Work on the project will begin this fall with the search for an architectural design firm. Construction is anticipated to start in 2022 and be completed by 2024.
