While the Church often chooses the date of a Saint’s death to commemorate their life, the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist are remembered on both their days of birth and death. Although there are no biblical accounts of Mary’s birth or death, many apocryphal sources make mention of her, with some historical records to substantiate them. Mary, born of Saint Anne, chosen by God to bear Jesus, is obviously held in high esteem in the Catholic Church, as well as some protestant denominations. As such, several local customs merge this feast day with the celebration of one of the many titles of our Lady, including: Our Lady of Victories (Malta) Our Lady of Charity (Cuba) Our Lady of Good Health (India)

October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. For centuries Catholics have turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking for her intercession in times of need by praying the Rosary. This great prayer, whose origins date before the 12th century, uses a meditative repetition of prayers that invoke the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she leads us to consider the mysteries in the life of her Divine Son, Jesus. History has shown this to be a powerful, effective and calming prayer that has truly changed hearts and lives over the centuries of its use. Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said of the Rosary that it is “the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the Rosary is beyond description.” As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I invite all Catholics in the Diocese of Trenton to consider making this powerful devotion part of your daily life of prayer. EXPECTATIONS AS WE GATHER FOR MASS Enter via the front doors of the Church Each person is wearing their mask and to observe social distancing when entering/exiting, selecting a seat, & processing/recessing to receive Holy Communion. It will require all to come earlier than usual to search for seating that observes social distancing. Masks and Social/Physical distancing are required. There can be no physical collection of Stewardship Offerings; A designated box(es) will be placed in the
Narthex/Gathering Space for the placement of envelopes or offerings. Thank you for your generosity.
Missals, Missalettes, Bulletins, and other papers have been removed. Holy Water has been drained from all locations. Parish Clergy will distribute Holy Communion; we ask all coming forth to observe distancing front to back and
side to side. We have been advised that socializing before or after the Mass inside or outside is to be discouraged; clergy are not permitted to greet parishioners before or after the Mass. NOTE: For those Catholic faithful that need to consider any possible health and safety risks involved with attending a public gathering the weekend Mass will be available online. see page 4 Monday through Friday 9 am Daily Mass in the chapel in the Parish Hall. For all parishioners: Congregating before and after Mass is prohibited, as per the bishop. There will be no children’s liturgy of the word dismissal. Volunteers are greatly needed to wipe down the wood of the pews after all Masses (weekend and weekday).
We will have a cleaning crew take care of the floors, bathrooms etc, but need this little bit of additional help. Please contact Andrew if you are able. At weekday Masses, no one is to arrive prior to 8:30 AM. All Masses will be in the Chapel in the Parish Hall. Exposition remains suspended for now. Private adoration of the Blessed Sacrament reserved in the tabernacle is welcomed and encouraged at any time.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. Facing another about sinfulness is one of the most difficult “dyings” we undertake—a dying that requires us to risk relationships, let go of self-righteousness, perhaps face angry reaction. From the other side, admitting our own sinfulness—even something so simple as apologizing to another— takes great humility and honesty. Neither facing another nor being faced ourselves about sinfulness is easy! The good news and strength actually to be reconcilers comes from Jesus’ promise that he is in the midst of two or three gathered in his name. The challenge of living the paschal mystery comes in growing in consciousness that we and others are the presence of Christ. This coming weekend we observe the Labor Day civic holiday. It has been our custom to offer an abbreviated Mass Schedule: Saturday, 5:00 pm; Sunday 10:00 am as well as our broadcast Mass to be viewed online. I have been asked to remind our church participants that there are chairs in the narthex/gathering area for those who are unable to sit observing social/physical distancing norms. Thank you for your kind cooperation during this extraordinary time. Preparations continue for some Adult Faith Formation programs. Walking with Purpose for adult women; Book of Saint James for women and men adults. Dr. Bridges is preparing some virtual presentations for those who prefer remaining in the safety of their home. Religious Education for our children and young people begins in a few weeks. Although we begin re-registration in April & May…extending
the cut off due to the extraordinary circumstances this year…we still have a significant amount not registered. We will reach out one last time before closing registration and finalizing the ordering of materials and licenses. We will not be doing this in the years to come. The work load has been tremendous on our staff. As I said earlier we are making special accommodations this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I am grateful to all those who have been working very hard to provide the very best for our parishioners who have children in our RE Program. We welcomed a few new members to our Parish Pastoral Council during a meeting this week. They are very generous in sharing their perspectives as faith filled parishioners. Their feedback assists me and our parish staff in better serving you. We have begun to look ahead to the Fall and Winter seasons. Unfortunately, we are unable to host the Halloween Halls and Advent Pancake Breakfast community building events this year. Adjustments are being made to how and what we can do for the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Advent Tree of Love, and Adopt a Family. We will advise you as soon as it is all settled. The need still remains. Our call for generous stewardship also remains. I am confident that we will rise to the challenge. It is my hope that you enjoy this Labor Day holiday. Celebrate the gift of human labor. Once the church office is open again, after Labor Day, please feel free to pick up your banner kit if you haven't already done so. You and your child can decorate the banner and bring it in the day of their Communion to display in church. Don't forget to take it home with you as a keep sake at the conclusion of Mass. The rehearsals will be as follows: Wed, Oct 14 at 5pm for the 10/18 10am ceremony Wed, Oct 14 at 6pm for the 10/18 12pm ceremony Wed, Oct 21 at 5pm for the 10/25 10am ceremony Wed, Oct 21 at 6pm for the 10/25 12pm ceremony Please arrive promptly at rehearsal. Orientations for Fall 2020-2021 We understand that these are uncertain times but we will be moving forward as best we can and will remain flexible with this upcoming school year. First and second graders will be meeting in the church every Tuesday at the early session from 4:30-5:40pm or the late session from 5:50pm7pm. The first class will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. All protocols of social distancing will be followed, temperatures will be taken upon arrival and masks will be worn. Our third through sixth graders will be participating in the online program through MY FAITH DELIVERED. If you have not yet received your login information, please contact the parish office. We will have two orientation options for all parents and children in the religious education program. Come to Mass on one of the following days and there will be an orientation directly following the service. We will be following all protocols set in place at our parish. Sacrament of Confirmation Friday, October 23, at 4 pm. Due to restrictions on the number of people allowed in our Church at one time, attendance will be limited to the candidate, his/her sponsor, and you, the parents. We will have a professional photographer present. As we have done in past years, the candidates will gather in Madonna Hall beginning at 3 pm, while the parents and sponsors find their assigned seating in the Church. We intend to have a group photo taken in Madonna Hall with the candidates very briefly removing their masks for the photo.
