WORSHIP & MUSIC On October 2, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorial of the Guardian Angels, a day dedicated to one of the most comforting beliefs of our faith: God does not abandon us, but provides heavenly messengers to guide and protect us. The practice of honoring guardian angels developed gradually in the life of the Church, drawing upon numerous biblical passages that speak of angels as servants and messengers of God. Jesus himself refers to the angels of children who “always see the face of my Father” (Matthew 18:10), a passage that has long been associated with the Church’s teaching on guardian angels. The belief in guardian angels is more than a charming tradition of childhood. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, in paragraph 336, teaches: “From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. ‘Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.’” The Catechism connects this teaching to the Church’s broader understanding of angels as servants of God who assist in his saving work. Guardian angels do not replace our freedom or make our decisions for us; rather, they remind us of God’s providential care and point us toward what is good and holy. The liturgical celebration of guardian angels has its roots in the devotion that developed throughout the Church, particularly in the Middle Ages. A feast dedicated to the Guardian Angels was established for the universal Church by Pope Paul V in 1608, and the observance was later assigned to October 2 by Pope Clement X in 1670. Today, the memorial invites us to pause and remember that God’s care for us is both personal and constant. A simple prayer—“Angel of God, my guardian dear”—can become more than a childhood remembrance: it can be a daily acknowledgment that we are never alone and a reminder to remain attentive to God’s guidance in our lives.

SAINT OF THE WEEK -Cosmas and Damian, Physicians and Martyrs, early Fourth Century. According to legend, Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers born in Arabia. They studied medicine in Syria and later became widely known for their medical skills which they offered, without charge, to all. Because of their charities, they were known in their time as the “moneyless ones.” They gained the love and respect of the people to whom they ministered, both for their medical assistance and the zeal of their Christian faith. During the persecution under the Emperor Diocletian, Cosmas and Damian, together with three brothers, Anthimus, Leontius, and Euprepius, were arrested, tried, and beheaded for their faith READ MORE HERE

Please keep all of these learners in your prayers as we continue to lay the foundations of faith through catechesis. Many thanks to all the certified teachers, that are asked to go through the Diocesan training to become certified in Catechesis, who will be forming these young children and teenagers. Our Confirmandi attended their Confirmation retreat last weekend. We were blessed again to have Colleen Raynor, from CKR Retreats, present. These 9th graders are now one step closer to being fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Confirmation rehearsal is on Saturday, 10 October 2026, beginning at the 4pm mass. The 4th of October is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the Catholic patron saint of animals. We will be celebrating here with The Blessing of Animals on Sunday, 4 October 2026. Please sign up HERE to attend this Intergenerational with your family pet for a special blessing and take home craft. The blessing begins at 9am, out in front of the church, followed by 10am mass.

Quo vadis... My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The second reading from the Letter to the Philippians gives us a hint as to how we can hear Jesus’ preaching and respond in faithful obedience: “by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing…regard others as more important than yourselves…” This is the kingdom perspective—to change our focus from ourselves to others and, in turn, our concern for others helps us focus on God. Jesus himself is the model, for “he emptied himself…becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Nothing was too much for Jesus so that others might be saved. So it ought to be for us. The “changing of our minds” described in the gospel is a self-emptying for the sake of others, lived every day in the little things that come our way. We celebrated the Rite of Welcoming as the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults continues in our parish. Let us pray for these adults seeking Sacramental Initiation into of Holy Catholic Church. Our Religious Education and Faith Formation Programs are underway. First Communions will begin on the 4th and the 10th at the 10am Mass, as well as on Saturday the 17th at the 4pm Mass.. It is so awesome when parishioners congratulate and encourage these young people and their families. It is the responsibility of all to assist parents in sharing our Catholic Faith with their children. Bible Study and Walking with purpose will also resume in the coming weeks. I am grateful to all who facilitate these programs.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered Friday, 16 October 2026 in our parish. Let us pray for these candidates, their parents and sponsors. We hope that, as fully initiated persons in our Church, these young people will desire to become more involved in service and ministry in our parish. We will host the Halloween Halls once again this year. Families will gather at the Saturday, 4:00pm Mass on 24 October then continue with the intergenerational presentation and lastly the visit to Madonna Hall. The Mass of Remembrance for those families who have experienced the death of a loved one in the past 12 months are invited to come for mass and to support one another. This year the Mass of Remembrance is scheduled for Sunday, 25 October 2026 at the 12:00pm noon mass. Last week Father Victor Hoagland, CP was in 07722 for a few day visit. He stayed at the Clergy Residence and enjoyed some quiet time. Fr. Victor is always welcome to come and visit. I know that many of our parishioners enjoy catching up with him. We pray that God will continue to bless him with good health and a desire to continue to seek the face of the Lord. October is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and a time for us to prayerfully reflect on the dignity of every human life. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday.
