Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The RCIA process involves not just the newcomer or "inquirer" but all the members of the community who by prayer and personal example help the inquirer find his or her place in the Church.

Pope Saint Gregory the Great served as Pope from 590-604, and his memorial is celebrated on September 3rd. He is the patron saint of musicians, especially singers, students and teachers. Although his tenure was short, he is noted for multiple accomplishments:
Emphasized missionary work in Great Britain Frequently gave alms to the poor, and suggested that each church have a deacon who would be ordained for the purpose of service to the poor and needy Fed the hungry during a Roman famine in the mid-590s, using the farming assets of the Church of Rome. Heavily involved in the liturgy of the Church, he began to establish the collecting of chants used throughout the various regions and constructed the standard for which specific chants would be used for specific services.
Although the specific way of notating this music would come centuries later, the term Gregorian Chant is attributed to him and remains the official musical form of the Roman Catholic Church to this day.

Sacred Relics Of The Saints: Treasures Of The Church
St. Ann Parish presents a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics on Thursday September 16 at 6:30 PM. Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross will be here with an extraordinary Vatican collection of over 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Ann, St. Joseph, St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. There will also be a portion of the Veil of Our Lady and one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. Throughout history, many healings have been worked in the presence of relics; and thousands have occurred through this ministry. Do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members, which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession. Afghanistan: Pope launches appeal for fasting, prayers for God's mercy VATICAN CITY • With increased violence unfolding in Afghanistan, Pope Francis appealed to all Christians to fast and intensify their prayers. "I ask everyone to continue to help the needy and to pray that dialogue and solidarity may lead to the establishment of a peaceful and fraternal coexistence and offer hope for the country's future," he said, after praying the Angelus with visitors in St. Peter's Square Aug. 29. He said he had been following the news out of Afghanistan "with great concern." "I take part in the suffering of those who are grieving for the persons who lost their lives in the suicide attacks that happened last Thursday and of those who are seeking help and protection," he said. The Pope was referring to the Aug. 26 attack when a suicide bomber detonated an explosion among the crowds of people desperate to leave the country at the gate of the Hamid Karzai International Airport. The blast killed at least 169 civilians and 13 U.S. service members, who were set to withdraw from the country by Aug. 31. Thousands of Afghans were seeking to be evacuated as well. The Islamic State claimed responsibility, saying the suicide bomber was targeting Afghan collaborators with the U.S. army.Read

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. In terms of Christian discipleship, we must hear and come to know Jesus before we can proclaim who he is. Looking to mighty deeds that we think may be unfolding around us today—reports of miracles, etc.—is not where this gospel leads us. Rather, the gospel leads us to see Christ in the little things around us—the caring touch, the encouraging smile, the unexpected friendly phone call—and interpret these as “mighty deeds.” We ought to be “astonished” today by the many manifestations of God’s presence in and through the people around us. We ought to be astonished at how God uses us as instruments to proclaim the good news of salvation. We ought to be so keyed into Jesus’ presence that we, too, cannot contain ourselves but must proclaim these mighty deeds. This weekend we observe the Labor Day civic holiday. It is a time for us to reflect on the gift of human labor and how we participate in the labor force contributing to the betterment of society. We will observe an abbreviated Mass Schedule this weekend: Saturday 5:00pm; Sunday 10:00am. Please make a note of this in your personal schedule.
It is hard to believe that summer is quickly coming to a close. We have had a wonderful string of beautiful days, some mild weather and some extremely hot an humid weather. This year there has been a larger than usual number of butterflies on our campus. There also seems to be an increase number of mosquitos around town. Make some time to enjoy the nice days ahead for us to enjoy. Take the time to enjoy the outdoors during the months of September and October. Taking
regular walks is a nice way for fresh air and some good exercise. Our staff have been working diligently throughout the summer months to care for the needs of our parishioners. They are preparing for upcoming events this fall and winter. I have been encouraged by the spirit of cooperation and teamwork they exemplify. I trust that their hope-filled spirit is a source of leaven to all in our parish community. This coming Saturday, 11 September 2021 is the 20th anniversary of that day when our country was attacked and innocent life was taken from among us. We will offer prayers for those who died that day as well as for their survivors whose lives were forever changed. The Colts Neck Township will host a memorial beginning at 6:00pm on the grounds of the Township Administration Complex. I encourage you to participate in a sign of solidarity with all those who remember that day and how it has changed our country and our world. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are or will be returning to school. Let us support our young people in their desire to learn the subjects that will enable them to be productive citizens and successful in their careers. Let us pray for their teachers and guides to encourage their students as they seek the truth about our great country and the responsibility to hand on the gift of freedom to generations who will follow us. Take Action Now to Protect the Hyde Amendment The Hyde Amendment, contained in the federal government’s annual appropriations legislation, prohibits federal funding of domestic abortions, except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. It is a bipartisan provision that has been part of federal appropriations for 45 years (since 1976) and enjoys overwhelming public support. Now some members in Congress want to take away these laws that both Democrats and Republicans have supported for nearly half a century. If successful billions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortions. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is asking all Catholics and people of good will to sign a petition to let Congress know they support the Hyde Amendment and do not want tax dollars paying for abortions.
