Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time. These parables of the kingdom in Matthew may sound like a broken phonograph record because they all in one way or another keep saying to us that we must keep our focus on God, lose ourselves, die to ourselves. The repetition gives us the clue that this is absolutely central to remaining in God’s love—self-surrender. We live the paschal mystery by daily practicing a self-surrendering way of life. This is faithful discipleship and the only way we produce good fruit—the only way we receive eternal life. Preparations are underway for the Sacrament of Confirmation as I pen this note. Let us continue to pray for these young women and men, their sponsors, their parents and all those responsible for their religious formation and education. Each Sunday evening our Confirmation Prep students meet to learn more about our Catholic Faith. Soon we will once again offer the Sunday 5:00 pm Mass as part of their formation. This Mass will continue throughout standard-time. Thanks to all those who assist in these important formation opportunities. I received a letter of resignation from Deacon Vincent Rinaldi concerning his responsibilities as Pastoral Associate/Coordinator of Religious Education. Deacon Vin will remain a Deacon assigned to Saint Mary Parish and will be continuing his ministry as Parish Deacon. An opportunity to return to the corporate world presented itself and this seemed like a good time for him to make a transition. I am grateful to him for his presence on our parish staff and his commitment to the Church, our Diocese of Trenton and our Parish of Saint Mary. We will be assessing our parish needs and follow up with interviews for staff positions. This is not an ideal time of the year to interview for this particular position; however, God provides for us the
Church. As a side note it is of interest that this particular department within our parish staff has seen 6 staff persons come and go in a 4.5 year period. Hmmmm? I wonder what we might learn? Just food for thought. I will continue to keep you informed. Preparations are underway for our Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washingtion, DC. The date is 4 November 2017. Our co-hort 13 is sponsoring buses that will depart from our parish parking lot. It is a one day trip departing early morning and returning late the same evening. Consider being part of this spiritual exercise joining with others from throughout our Diocese of Trenton. Information is provided in our parish bulletin. As we enter this beautiful Fall season, let us make some time to enjoy the outdoors before the cold weather sets in for a few months. Take time to enjoy the colors which nature bursts forth. During this month, let us take some time to pray the rosary for world peace, for vocations to the priesthood, for a greater respect for the dignity of all human life. Let us re-commit ourselves to a life of stewardship so that our choices might continue to build up and offer people hope rather than tear down or manipulate. The life that God gives us needs to be used to further build God’s Kingdom in our midst. Let us not only talk about the sanctity of human life, let us direct our efforts in support of human life at every stage. Our Super 50/50 Raffle drawing is set for later this month. Many thanks to all those who have purchased their tickets. Please do so this week either online or at the parish office. Thank you for your generous support of our parish ministries and outreach. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
