CONFIRMANDI Practice for Confirmation will be Sunday, October 14 at 2 pm Either the sponsor or a parent must attend.
Confirmation is Friday, October 19 4:00 pm (Arrival time is EARLIER) Plan to arrive no later than 2:45 pm Madonna Hall. Candidates, sponsors, and parents gather in Madonna Hall in order to check in, take group pictures, and line up in order to be in the church prior to 3:45 pm. All relatives and friends should plan on being seated in the church prior to 3:45 pm. During the Rite of Confirmation the bishop and the priests who are administering the sacrament lay their hands upon those who are to be confirmed. It is here that the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit are received ...“ the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the

5 - 7 of the Seven Gifts Knowledge is awareness of God’s plan. It is not simply an accumulation of facts but rather an understanding of God’s purpose and how we ought to respond. Knowledge helps bring to light temptations and to discern whether to give in or live a life worthy of God’s approval. Reverence is our obedience to God and our willingness to serve him. It is not just obedience through a sense of duty but rather obedience out of love and devotion. It facilitates a deeper respect for God and the Church. Wonder and awe makes us aware of the glory and majesty of God. This gift is also synonymous with “Fear of the Lord”, in which we dread sin and fear offending God. We fear displeasing God and losing our connection with him. Wonder and awe increases our desire to draw closer to God and depart from sin.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time. God’s design for all of creation is that it be harmonious and whole. Paradoxically, it’s the rhythm of the paschal mystery—between dying and rising—that keeps us harmonious and whole. Dying to self means that our own selfish interests are not put ahead of the good of another—which promotes harmony. The new life that always comes from self-giving is a sign of wholeness. Always what stands in the way of harmony and wholeness is hardness of heart—our own or another’s. The challenge is in the example of Jesus: embrace and bless even the little ones. October 7th is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Many in our parish community have a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under this title. Let us continue to invoke the intercession of the Blessed Mother by praying the Rosary for World Peace, Healing and Reconciliation and greater tolerance of diversity. During the month of October we pray for a greater awareness of the need to Respect Life at every stage from Conception to Natural Death. This October take some time to familiarize yourself with the vast teachings of our church. This might be a good time for you to consider making out a “living will” or “advance directives” for healthcare. It is necessary for you and for your survivors to know and clearly understand your intentions. Please be responsible. October is also the month when we as Christians focus on Stewardship: Sharing Our Time, Talent & Treasure. Take some time to reflect on how we are called to be better stewards of the time, talent and blessings God has given to us. Take time to
connect your faith life to the many details of daily living as a Catholic Christian. Last weekend both Msgr. Troiano and I spoke to you at all of the weekend Masses. I am grateful for your support and continue to promise that we are moving forward responsibly. Thank you for completing your increased offertory card to assist us with our planning. I expect that you, all of our registered parishioners, will receive an electronic copy of our Parish Stewardship Newsletter in the coming weeks. It will also be posted to our website. This is the fruit of many hours of work by our staff and leadership teams. This report is not an extra. Every parishioner has a right to know the details contained in this report. It is a way in which the staff renders an accountable statement to you, our parishioners, benefactors and friends as stakeholders. Do not hesitate to ask our Parish Trustees or staff members for clarification of questions that might arise. Transparent administration is something that you should expect and that we strive to sustain. Father Victor Hoagland, CP who has assisted our parish for nearly 30 years will be in Rome for the month of October. Father Victor has been elected by members of his province to represent them at their General Chapter. Please keep the Passionist Fathers and Father Victor in your prayer as they discern the future of the worldwide religious community. Remember to make extra time when coming to Church. During the Fall Season, Route 34 can be very unpredictable from a traffic perspective. The major construction at 537 & 34 has gone remarkable well this past year. The Martha Mary Guild’s October Meeting The Martha Mary Guild’s October meeting is traditionally a “triple treat”. New members are inducted with a special ceremony, led by our Pastor, Rev. Jeffrey Lee or one of our Deacons. Then there will be a delicious Pot-Luck Luncheon, to welcome the new members. After the feast is consumed, there is a Fashion Show, with members modeling their “prized possessions” from the September Clothing Sale. This year’s meeting will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10, with the rosary in the Spiritual Center Chapel at 11:00 am. (Please note the time change.) The Induction Ceremony will take place at 11:30 in Madonna Hall, due to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel. Our PotLuck Luncheon will follow. Kindly bring your “culinary creations” to the Madonna Hall kitchen before the rosary. Please Note: “ Holiday Express” has requested socks to distribute to the needy, so the Guild is asking our members to kindly donate socks in all sizes for this worthy cause. Your generosity was overwhelming last year and we hope to do as well again. Remember, all ladies of the parish are invited to participate in this fun-filled day! Provide A Ride St. Mary has several Parishioners who are elderly/disabled & unable to drive for their own personal needs, such as doctor visits, food shopping, Mass attendance, etc. If you have the desire & ability to offer transportation assistance, so that a fellow Parishioner can attend to their ordinary everyday tasks, please consider making yourself available to provide a ride on an asneeded or perhaps once-a-month basis.
