All Communion Prep. 2nd Graders (Including Summer) Religious Education Families Penance & Reconciliation Rehearsal and Lottery On Tuesday, November 6, at 6 pm in Madonna Hall, we will be having an important meeting for all 2nd graders and their parents. This includes all of our summer students and our current students in our Tuesday classes. Our Tuesday grade 2 students will not be having their normal classes that day. The 2nd graders will be receiving their First Penance on December 9 during the parish's Advent Penance & Reconciliation Service. Our meeting on November 6 is meant to prepare all of us for that day. In addition, at this meeting we will be holding our First Communion lottery. This is the mechanism we use to schedule the children for the time of their reception of the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. Our First Communion ceremonies for 2019 will occur on May 5 and 12 at the 10 am and 12 noon Masses. We are aware that May 12 is Mother's Day, but the late date for Easter in 2019 pushed us into May.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Without persistence in prayer, it will be impossible for us to follow Jesus faithfully on the road of self-giving. The encounter with Jesus in prayer keeps healthy and strong our relationship to him. The prayer of petition reminds us that disciples can do nothing on their own without Jesus’ help. Only with Jesus will we disciples not stumble (see first reading). The paschal mystery rhythm of dying and rising plays itself out in many ways—this Sunday in a rhythm of ministry and prayer. In practical, everyday terms this means that at times we are doing our faith— reaching out to those around us in need; at other times we are being our faith—taking time to let our God be present to us in prayer.

The Paschal Candle will be lit throughout the month to serve as a reminder that Christ is our light. Our parish Lazarus Ministry will welcome family members who buried a loved one from our parish. This is a very important ministry for us and it is the responsibility of all to bury the dead. Thank you for all of your support for this important ministry. They are very effective in ministering to those who experience the death of a loved one. We also thank those who help to facilitate bereavement ministry in our parish. Walking with those who have experienced the death of a loved one is central to our understanding of the paschal mystery.
Thanks to all those who sacrificially supported the Annual World Mission Sunday Collection. These resources are used to continue the mission of the Church to evangelize every corner of the earth. Our participation continues to show forth the true universality of the Catholic Church. Thanks to all those who are assisting with our “Saints & Superheroes – Halloween Halls” Community Building event this weekend.
It is my hope that most of you have received our 2018 Annual Parish Stewardship Report. Many thanks to all those staff members and parishioners who have made this publication possible. Please take time to read it carefully and become better informed parishioners and stakeholders in the mission of our parish. We have received some very good questions and were able to respond. Some who had questions were invited to come in so that we could review the report in light of their questions. The “Increased Offertory” Commitment Cards continue to be returned. Thank you for the seriousness with which you are discerning your support of our parish.
This coming week we begin the month of November…the month of All Saints and All Souls. This is an important part of our Christian Spirituality. Each of us is called to holiness. Each of us struggles with our personal sinfulness. Let us journey through this month with a renewed sense of what it means for us to be a part of the Communion of Saints. Through the intercession of the saints., may we continue to model our faith to those around us at home and in the work place. Let us ever be mindful of the need to pray for the repose of the souls of those who have gone before us. This is a daily reminder that life is a gift and we are merely stewards; therefore, let us make the most of each

Thanksgiving Baskets Collection For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me…” - Matthew 25:35 Every year, Saint Mary Parish parishioners generously provide donations for Thanksgiving Baskets for over 200 area families who are in need in the Monmouth County area.
“Light Up a Memory” “Light Up a Memory” has become a beautiful Christmas tradition at St. Mary’s and is now in its 11th year, thanks to the support of an enthusiastic community. It is heartwarming to see the hundreds of lights sparkle during the Christmas season. For a contribution of $10.00 per light, people are invited to sponsor a light in memory of someone deceased or in honor of a living person. All of the names will be inscribed in the Light Up a Memory book, which will be displayed in The Parish of Saint Mary Gathering Space. A lovely card of acknowledgement is provided with each $10.00 donation. There will be a tree Lighting Ceremony on Sat., Dec. 15, after the 4:00 Mass, with music provided by St. Mary’s Choir. Refreshments will be served in the Gathering Space after the ceremony. These “memories” will glow until the feast of “Little Christmas” on Jan. 6.
