Sanctuary Lamps Consider donating the sanctuary lamp that burns in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church or Christ Chapel in memory of a loved one who has died or to honor a living person. These intentions are on a weekly basis starting with the Sunday. A new request is published each week in the bulletin.
There are a total of 104 Sanctuary Lamp Intentions per year: 52 weeks of the year for each the Christ Chapel & Church lamps.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Income taxes are automatically deducted from salaries; we are barely conscious of it. Our service of God, however, is not exacted from us but is freely and consciously given. Our “obligation” to God is really the self-giving that freely and consciously flows from our sense of God’s prior goodness to us. One aspect, then, of growing in our self-offering is growing in our awareness of God’s goodness to us. We might begin by taking a few moments each morning, afternoon, and evening to stop whatever we are doing and ask ourselves how we are experiencing God’s blessings. Eventually this practice can grow into a pervading awareness of God’s presence and goodness to us. Welcome Sister Lisa Valentini, MSC to our parish community. Sister Lisa will be facilitating our parish mission this coming week. Sister will be speaking in the morning and the evenings for the convenience of our parishioners. I encourage you to participate in this opportunity for spiritual growth. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will rest upon Sister Lisa and our parish community. We will begin celebrating Mass Sunday Evening at 5:00 pm in our parish church beginning 5 November 2017 (time change weekend) through and including Sunday, 4 March 2018. This Mass is being added for the convenience of our parishioners and as a way to further engage those families who have participants in years I & II of confirmation preparation. I have heard from many of our parishioners how difficult it can be to come to Mass during sports seasons, especially when
participating in travel team sports. This additional Mass each weekend requires cooperation of many liturgical ministers. I am grateful to the music and worship ministers for their willingness to support this effort. The Saturday 4:00 pm Mass will also commence. Please consult the bulletin for details. This weekend is Agape following each Mass on Sunday. Take a few minutes and join with other parishioners in this community building event. There are usually information tables set up for your consideration. During the Agape following the 12:00 noon Mass, we will have the Super 50/50 Raffle drawing. Many thanks to all those who have purchased their tickets If you have not purchased a ticket, please do so following Mass or in the parish hall during Agape this weekend. Preparations continue for the Halloween Halls. This is a great opportunity for children to enter into the experience of Halloween in a safe and nurturing environment. Come and be a part of this great tradition. As we conclude the month of October, November is the month of All Saints and All Souls. Please check out the Mass schedule for the Solemnity of All Saints and the Commemoration of All Souls. Preparation continues for our Religious Education Students who are learning about the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation. They will receive this sacrament for the first time during our parish Advent Penance & Reconciliation Service in early December. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. “Light Up a Memory” “Light Up a Memory” has become a beautiful Christmas tradition at St. Mary’s and is now in its 10th year, thanks to the support of an enthusiastic community. It is heartwarming to see the hundreds of lights sparkle during the Christmas season. For a contribution of $10.00 per light, people are invited to sponsor a light in memory of someone deceased or in honor of a living person. All of the names will be inscribed in the Light Up a Memory book, which will be displayed in St. Mary’s Gathering Space. A lovely card of acknowledgement is provided with each $10.00 donation. There will be a tree Lighting Ceremony on Sat., Dec. 16, after the 4:00 Mass, with music provided by St. Mary’s Choir. Refreshments will be served in the Gathering Space after the ceremony. These “memories” will glow until the feast of “Little Christmas” on Jan. 7. Everyone is welcome to participate in this wonderful tribute to our loved ones.
Christmas Sponsor-A-Family Purchase gifts for a family. You select the size of the family you wish to sponsor (2-6 people). Several families or a group of people can sponsor a larger family. Gifts per person are usually a value of $50 and based on a list of needed items prepared by the family. This program adopts families from Aslan Youth Ministries, The Center in Asbury Park, Family Resource Associates and the Highpoint School. The goal is to sponsor families in need at Christmas. If you, your family, your neighbors, coworkers, or friends would like to sponsor a family in need this holiday season. Due to lack of freezer space we ask for monetary donations towards the purchase of turkeys. Therefore, in lieu of donating turkeys or gift cards, please make your check payable to “The Parish of Saint Mary” & put ‘Thanksgiving Food Drive’ in the memo section.
Your contribution will be used for turkeys or additional canned goods if needed. Help us exceed last year's donations of 145 bags of groceries and 130 turkeys to greater serve the needs of the community at large.
