Mysteries of the Rosary PART II
The Glorious Mysteries celebrate wondrous acts of God which display his glory and power.
THE RESURRECTION - After 3 days in the tomb, God raises Jesus from the dead, and solidifying Jesus’ role as Son of God.
THE ASCENSION - After his post-resurrection appearances, Jesus ascends into heaven, to be seated at the right hand of the Father in the unending Kingdom.
THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT - After Jesus’ ascension, the Holy Spirit is sent upon the disciples, empowering them to carry on the mission of Jesus and spread the Gospel.
THE ASSUMPTION - The Blessed Virgin Mary is assumed into Heaven; not dying a normal human death, nor being resurrected like her son, and having completed the course of her earthly life was assumed body and soul into Heaven.
THE CORONATION OF MARY - Mary is crowned Queen of Heaven, one of her many titles, through her role as mother of Jesus and mother of God.
These mysteries are prayed on Wednesday, and on Sundays outside of Advent and Lent.
The Luminous Mysteries, added by Pope Saint John Paul II in 2002, celebrate moments in Jesus’ earthly ministry.
THE BAPTISM BY JOHN IN THE JORDAN - The first coming of the Holy Spirit, and God declares “This is my beloved Son, listen to him”.
THE WEDDING AT CANA - Jesus performs his first public miracle, in the presence of his mother.
THE PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD - Jesus speaks many times on the kingdom of God; this mystery calls to mind trust in the Father and belief in the Son.
THE TRANSFIGURATION - Jesus takes his most trusted apostles to the mountain, where he is Transfigured before them, predicating his coming glory.
THE INSTITUTION OF THE EUCHARIST - Jesus celebrates the Passover at the Last Supper with his apostles, and institutes the holy Eucharist, which we commemorate at each and every Mass.
The mysteries are prayed on Thursdays.
ALL SOULS By the request of some parishioners, we are including an All Souls envelope in our quarterly package. It is the Church’s custom to reserve the month of November for the remembrance of all the faithful departed. Please use your All Souls envelope to write the names of those loved ones you would like to remember and kindly drop it in the collection basket anytime beginning October. The envelopes will be wrapped and placed near the tabernacle, and an intention will be added to the prayer of the faithful in the Masses celebrated on All Souls Day and during the month of November. EXPECTATIONS AS WE GATHER FOR MASS Enter via the front doors of the Church Each person is wearing their mask and to observe social distancing when entering/exiting, selecting a seat, & processing/recessing to receive Holy Communion. It will require all to come earlier than usual to search for seating that observes social distancing. Masks and Social/Physical distancing are required. There can be no physical collection of Stewardship Offerings;
A designated box(es) will be placed in the Narthex/ Gathering Space for the placement of envelopes or offerings. Thank you for your generosity. Missals, Missalettes, Bulletins, and other papers have been removed. Holy Water has been drained from all locations. Parish Clergy will distribute Holy Communion; we ask all coming forth to observe distancing front to back and side to side. We have been advised that socializing before or after the Mass inside or outside is to be discouraged; clergy are not permitted to greet parishioners before or after the Mass. NOTE: For those Catholic faithful that need to consider any possible health and safety risks involved with attending a public gathering the weekend Mass will be available online. see page 4 Monday through Friday 9 am Daily Mass in the chapel in the Parish Hall.
MASS OF REMEMBRANCE will be October 31 On Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the 4 pm Mass, our parish will remember in a special way those who have died at the Parish of Saint Mary during the past year as well as any relative you may wish to remember. This Mass is an opportunity for us to assist those who grieve the death of a loved one. First Communion Families, First Communion has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 25th at the 10 am and 12 pm noon Masses. If possible, the sponsor should be present for the practice. However, a parent can stand in for the sponsor.
Confirmation is Friday, October 23, 4:00 pm (Arrival time is EARLIER) Due to restrictions on the number of people allowed in our Church at one time, attendance will be limited to the candidate, his/her sponsor, and you, the parents. We will have a professional photographer present. As we have done in past years, the candidates will gather in Madonna Hall beginning at 3 pm, while the parents and sponsors find their assigned seating in the Church. We intend to have a group photo taken in Madonna Hall with the candidates very briefly removing their masks for the photo. During the Rite of Confirmation the Celebrant and the priests who are administering the sacrament lay their hands upon those who are to be confirmed. It is here that the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit are received ...“ the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.”

7th of the Seven Gifts Wonder and awe makes us aware of the glory and majesty of God. This gift is also synonymous with “Fear of the Lord”, in which we dread sin and fear offending God. We fear displeasing God and losing our connection with him. Wonder and awe increases our desire to draw closer to God and depart from sin.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Income taxes are automatically deducted from salaries; we are barely conscious of it. Our service of God, however, is not exacted from us but is freely and consciously given. Our “obligation” to God is really the self-giving that freely and consciously flows from our sense of God’s prior goodness to us. One aspect, then, of growing in our self-offering is growing in our awareness of God’s goodness to us. We might begin by taking a few moments each morning, afternoon, and evening to stop whatever we are doing and ask ourselves how we are experiencing God’s blessings. Eventually this practice can grow into a pervading awareness of God’s presence and goodness to us. This weekend we welcome families who are presenting their children for First Holy Communion at the 10:00 am and 12 Noon masses. The children along with their parents and siblings will be placed in reserved seating that provides for social/physical distancing. Other family members, guests will be dispersed throughout the congregation observing masks, hand sanitizer, and social/ physical distancing. Additional seating will be set up in the rear of the church as well as the area near the organ, the tabernacle, and the narthex. Should you be concerned about attending one of these masses I suggest attending either the Saturday afternoon anticipatory mass, Sunday 8 am mass, or the broadcast mass available online. I am grateful to all of our parishioners for the seriousness
with which they approach these necessary guidelines. Those arriving for mass close to the start time (or later) are encouraged to be very careful in selecting a seat so as not to disrupt others space. I know this is touchy and I appreciate the cooperation we receive and the respect shown for one another. Our parish will welcome His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, Friday, 23 October 2020 to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to candidates from our parish. This year the candidates, their sponsors, and parents are permitted for the ceremony. We will observe the protocols of masks, hand sanitizing, social/physical distancing, as well as temperature checks. We take our role to provide as safe an environment as possible for our parishioners and staff of the parish. I encourage all of you to pray for these young people receiving sacraments in the coming weeks. Pray for their parents, sponsors, and family members. Roman Catholics throughout the United States of America have been asked to offer a novena (9 days) of prayer for our country. There are daily intentions to be remembered in our prayer. I think many would agree that there may be some turbulent days ahead of us and the need for prayer may assist us in striving for tolerance, peace and balance in our lives. Have a great week. LIGHT UP A MEMORY 2020 Light Up A Memory has become a local tradition for our Parish Community of Saint Mary. Each year we have the opportunity to list the names of our beloved dead and offer a light on our outdoor Christmas Tree. Others offer the names of family and friends who are living and may be in need of prayer. Still others submit names in recognition of family members who are truly a blessing in our lives. This year our world is quite different. Our need for prayer continues. Our dependency on God and one another has become a very real part of daily living. It has been decided that we will not solicit names or financial contributions for the Light Up A Memory Tree Lighting this year. Instead, we will come together for the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, December 12, 2020. As has been our custom we will light the tree and sing Christmas Carols at the conclusion of the Mass. Our intentions this year will be for those who have been affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic, especially those infected, those who have died, healthcare workers, and all first responders. It is our hope that this simple gesture might encourage us to give thanks for the many selfless hours of service which have been given. Additionally, keeping the lives of those infected, those recovered, and those who have died is part of our Catholic tradition of prayer and a support to their survivors. We encourage you to join with us on Saturday, December 12, 2020 for Mass and our 13th Annual Light Up A Memory Tree Lighting.
