The Sacraments of Initiation Three of the seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church are considered the Sacraments of Initiation as they impart God’s grace on us in the early days of forming our commitment to the Church. The first is Baptism, usually done in infancy or early childhood. The person has water poured over them and is baptized in the Trinitarian formula (in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). They are also anointed with Sacred Chrism and the Oil of Catechumens. The second is Confirmation, which in our time is celebrated as the last of the three as a child, but second if part of the RCIA (more on that below). This sacrament is generally conferred by the local bishop or his designee, in which the candidate is sealed with the Sacred Chrism and receives the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, deepening our relationship with God. The last is Holy Communion. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic faith, the body and blood of Christ mystically uniting us with each other, and the entire body of Christ (past, present and future). Adults who wish to become Catholic may undergo a process known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, in which they go through a period of discernment, purification and enlightenment before being welcomed into full Communion with the Church at the Easter Vigil.

Here in our parish, we regularly celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism. During the month of October, we also celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. We ask that you pray for those who receive these Sacraments in our parish, throughout our Diocese, and throughout the worldwide Church.

Once we experience the power of God’s love, and recognize his fatherly presence in our personal and community life, we cannot help but proclaim and share what we have seen and heard. Jesus’ relationship with his disciples and his humanity, as revealed to us in the mystery of his Incarnation, Gospel and Paschal Mystery, shows us the extent to which God loves our humanity and makes his own our joys and sufferings, our hopes and our concerns (cf. Gaudium et Spes, 22). Everything about Christ reminds us that he knows well our world and its need for redemption, and calls us to become actively engaged in this mission: “Go therefore to the highways and byways, and invite everyone you find” (Mt 22:9). All Souls Remembrance For the month of November It is the Church’s custom to reserve the month of November for the remembrance of all the faithful departed. Please use your All Souls envelope to write the names of those loved ones you would like to remember and kindly drop it in the collection boxes anytime beginning in October. The envelopes will be wrapped and placed near the tabernacle, and an intention will be added to the prayer of the faithful in the Masses celebrated on All Souls Day and during the month of November. Mass of Remembrance October 31, 2021 On Sunday, October 31, 2021 preceding the 12:00pm Mass, our Parish will remember in a special way those who had a funeral Mass at Saint Mary during the past year as well as any relative you may wish to remember. This Mass is an opportunity for us to assist those who grieve the death of a loved one.

We are here and ready to share the richness of our faith with you. If you’ve been looking everywhere for answers, and still haven’t found them, we invite you to find out what the Catholic Church offers. RCIA is a comprehensive process, in which the Church supports and encourages the spiritual journeys of those who are unbaptized and seeking to become Catholic and for those who are baptized Catholic or in another Christian denomination who wish to complete their Sacraments of Initiation (First Eucharist and Confirmation). The RCIA process involves not just the newcomer/inquirer but all members of the Faith community whose prayers and example help the newcomer find their place in the Church. Jesus knew that everyone has different gifts and those gifts are used best when they are shared with others. Typical tasks and responsibilities: Listening and preparing adults in a process to be received into the Catholic faith and parish community. Required training or skills: 1.5 hr. training session, weekly. Approximate time commitment: This is dependent on those who are seeking initiation or welcome into the Catholic community.

Isaac Jogues 1098-1179

Born in Orleans, France, the son of a wealthy merchant, Isaac Joques was sent to a Jesuit school when he was ten years old. While at first wary of the strict rules of his new school, by the time Isaac graduated, he was determined to become a Jesuit priest and a missionary. He served among the native peoples of Canada, and often suffered greatly but, he continued his work for the Gospel and through him, many people came to believe in Christ. Isaac Joques strongly felt God’s calling and, even knowing that he would suffer martyrdom if he returned to the Iroquois, he willingly did so.

Men’s Morning Office The Thursday Men’s Morning Office has been meeting since 1981 when it was formed by now Pastor Emeritus William J. Bausch. As of September 2021, we have about 20 men meeting in person every Thursday morning at 7:00 am in the Chapel for prayer. We usually conclude our prayer service by 7:30 am, and then enjoy some coffee, donuts & camaraderie for 15-20 minutes before all are on their way. With an active roster of 40 or so men ranging in age from their early 20s to 90+, we welcome any men in the Parish or cohort to come join us any Thursday morning for prayer & fellowship! Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Much of our doing for others is simply part of our everyday circumstances, for example, parents taking care of their children or a worker cooperating with others on a team job. Being the slave of all isn’t always something extra or big; most of the time it is simply doing our everyday tasks and keeping in mind that others are the body of Christ. If we can do these everyday tasks with loving care, then if something big comes along we won’t deny Jesus like the apostles but will say “we can.” Congratulations to all of our confirmati those having been confirmed Friday last. We also congratulate their parents, sponsors and family members. This is a true milestone for them. We know that faith is passed on in the family. Parish clergy, catechists and formation coordinators assist parents in this essential role. It is my hope that the Eucharist will continue to nurture these families, especially the confirmati, as they continue their journey of faith. Congratulations is also extended to those families who are presenting children for their First Holy Communion this weekend at the 10am & 12 Noon masses. Christian Discipleship is about Mission, growing in Faith and embracing the call to conversion. Let us pray for these families and all those who are passing on our Catholic Faith to the next generation. Special thanks to Rose Farrow, Julia Cullen and all those who assist them as well as Andrew Macirowski and all who assist him. erend Bishop of Trenton will be the Principal Celebrant and Homilist commemorating the 140th Anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Trenton. All are welcome and encouraged to participate. During this Eucharistic Liturgy we will inaugurate the diocesan preparations for the World Synod announced by His Holiness The Pope. The theme of this synod (walking together) is “Communion, Participation, Mission”. His Holiness has expressed a desire for broad participation from all members of the Church: Bishops, Priests & Deacons, Consecrated Religious & Lay Faithful throughout the world. There will be much more information in the coming weeks and months. This synod is expected to be held for 2 +/years and it is customary the Holy Father issues an Apostolic Exhortation summarizing the main points of the Synod. Later this month we will host the annual Halloween Halls with mass on Saturday at 4:00pm and an intergenerational activity followed by trick or treating throughout the campus. The annual Mass of Remembrance will also be held later this month to assist those who are grieving the death of a loved one who died during the past 12 months. Preparations are underway for All Souls Day, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Fall Clean Up of our 25 Acres, First Penance & Reconciliation/Advent Confessions, Light Up a Memory Tree Lighting and much more. Check out the parish bulletin, e-blasts for activities and opportunities to get involved. These are great ways to give back while meeting other parishioners. Have a great week. Free Screening of "Fatima" film Friday, October 22nd, 7:00 p.m Catholic Campus Ministry at Monmouth University is sponsoring a free screening of the 2020 film, "Fatima" in the Lower Church of St. Michael's, 800 Ocean Avenue, West End (Long Branch), NJ.
