Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe CHRIST, KING OF ALL On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ's work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ's saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls "the least ones" (Matthew 25:45). Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King of the Universe. The good thief asked, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” This solemnity celebrates Christ as King, his kingdom has come. We are living in God’s kingdom now. But we are called not to simply pay homage to our exalted King, but to do as he did. This means that each day we must live in self-sacrifice because only through the cross is God’s reign at hand. Living the paschal mystery means living the cross. Just as the cross was the means to Jesus’ exaltation, so is the cross the means to our own entry into Paradise. When selfsacrifice seems to swallow us up and we are tempted to choose a self-serving attitude, all we need to do is remember that the cross is THE door to Paradise…THE only way. Thanksgiving Day is observed this week. As Roman Catholics we give thanks each and every time we celebrate the Eucharist. Being a thankful people is so essential to being a Christian Community. May we continue to cultivate in our lives and in the lives of our children and young people an attitude of gratitude. Please join us for the Annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service being hosted by our parish this year. Also, come to Mass Thanksgiving Day morning at 9 am so that, together as a community of faith, we can give thanks and praise to Almighty God for the many blessings we have received in our lives, most especially the great gift of faith. Many thanks to all those who have participated in our Thanksgiving Food Drive and all those who coordinated our efforts as well as those who generously delivered these food items. The Liturgical Season of Advent begins next weekend. It is the beginning of a new Liturgical Year. This coming week our parish church
buildings, office and exterior sites will begin to be prepared for the Advent-Christmas Seasons. It is a great task requiring much time, energy and cooperation. It is very important for us to include parishioners, new and experienced, in completing these essential tasks. I hope that we will be willing to invite and welcome young adults and families to receive the mantle of responsibility for some of these aspects of parish life. It is in this way that they continue to learn from some of our long term parishioners all of the details of preparing for the various liturgical seasons. It is wonderful to experience this passing on of the customs, traditions and pride that characterize our Catholic Community. It is one of our more immediate goals to put in place a way for us to learn the interests of our parishioners and to assist them in their desire to share Time & Talent in our parish. As the pace begins to pick up in preparation for the Solemnity of Christmas, make sure that you are pro-active in providing for your spiritual preparation. Make time to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation (confession). Our Penance Service is scheduled for Sunday 8 December 2019 at 3 pm in our parish church. Next weekend Monsignor Troiano will observe 40 years of priestly ordination and service in our Diocese of Trenton. Monsignor will celebrate the 10:00 am Mass, 1 December 2019. A reception will follow in the parish hall so that all might greet him on this milestone. Last week I was on retreat for a few days and then joined 5 of our high school students and their chaperone Linda Dickinson Pancila at the 2019 National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis IN. This coming week I will be joining my family in southern Maryland for Thanksgiving Day this year. My brother and his family will be hosting us. Have a great week. The following St Mary youth who are all involved in ministry at the parish will attend the 2019 National Catholic Youth Conference - NCYC in Indianapolis, Indiana from November 21 - 24, 2019 with our pastor Fr. Jeff Lee and adult chaperone Linda Dickinson-Pancila: Jane Farrow, Claudia Garcia, William Hines, Mark Hines, and Tesya Yaninas. This year’s NCYC theme is Blessed Broken Given. The Scripture story The Appearance on the Road to Emmaus, Luke 24:13-35 will be read, studied, and reflected upon. Please read and pray with the more than 20,000 youth that will be in attendance. The participants will be traveling by bus with other youth participants from the Diocese of Trenton. Please keep all attendees in your prayers for a safe journey to, from and in Indianapolis as well as for a faith-filled experience. Thank you to the Martha Mary Guild for their generous donation to offset the trip cost for the St Mary youth participants as well as to the parish for covering the remainder of the cost. Have you considered making your IRA Required Minimum Distribution to the Parish of St. Mary If you are over the age of 70 1/2 and have a traditional IRA and /or a Roth IRA, your required minimum distribution can be directed to St. Mary Parish as a “qualifying charitable distribution”. The requirements include the following: The Charitable distribution must be from a traditional IRA or Roth IRA. The charitable distribution must be direct from the IRA trustee to St. Mary Parish.
2019 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL UPDATE There are only a few weeks left until the end of this year and the ACA 2019 will be over soon. To date 206 families of Saint Mary Parish have pledged a total of $49,150, roughly reaching 66% of our parish goal of $75,000. To all of them a big THANK YOU for your commitment with the mission of the Church in Monmouth County and the Diocese of Trenton. Since we have not reached our goal this year our parish will not be eligible for the rebate which will have a negative impact on our budget. We had anticipated to receive a minimum of $11,250 as a rebate had we reached our goal. We invite all our parishioners to participate in the ACA 2020 when it launches next February. “Light Up a Memory” Plans for the St. Mary Parish “Memory Tree” 12th Anniversary in December are already underway. A $10.00 donation signifies a light to honor all those we wish to remember during the Christmas season – both living and passed. His/her name will be inscribed in a special “Memory Book”, which will be on display in the Church Gathering Space. Each $10.00 also entitles the donor to a lovely card to send to the family of the deceased or to the honoree. The deadline for forms is Dec. 3, 2019. All contributions will benefit improvements at the Parish of St. Mary. Participants are also invited to 4 pm Mass and the joyous tree lighting ceremony, with music by St. Mary’s choir and a special reception, with delicious refreshments in the Gathering Space, on Saturday, December 14, 2019.

Christmas Ministry in Need of Leadership St. Mary Christmas Sponsor-A-Family is in need of between two and four volunteer coordinators to take charge of running the program which provides Christmas gifts to several organizations such as The High Point School, Aslan Youth Ministries, The Center in Asbury Park (Aids affected families), Families in Need within the Parish Community of Saint Mary, and the St Mary Charitable Outreach Program.
