New Worship Materials! Beginning with the celebration of Thanksgiving and moving into the First Sunday of Advent and the start of the new liturgical year, we will begin utilizing our new worship resource, The Book of Sacred Liturgy. This hardcover missal/hymnal contains the readings and propers for all 3 Sunday cycles (Years A,B,C) of the liturgical year for use in the church, and a separate edition which contains the weekday texts for use in the chapel (1 book each for Year I and Year II). All editions also contain a variety of authentic Catholic music, similar to the structure of our current disposable resource, but in an environmentally friendly and fiscally responsible format. These new books will also eliminate the need for the paper seasonal worship aids that are currently in the pews. While we will still need to print additional materials for Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions, our use of disposable resources will be greatly and wisely reduced. I am confident that this new resource will foster participation in the sacred liturgy and continue to be a solid resource for many years to come.

Quo vadis‌ My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The signs of the end time alert us to the fact that our striving to be faithful disciples has cosmic proportions. Living the paschal mystery does not just have consequences for ourselves, but for all others as well. When we break out of a chronological understanding of time (that is, time as duration with past, present, and future) and break into God’s eternal time (time without duration in which everything just is) we can begin to understand how even the little acts of kindness and self-sacrifice we perform each day affect all that is. This is a sobering thought: the way we care for the children, are honest at the workplace, take leisure time to care for ourselves, affects our whole world and everyone in it. This is the privilege of discipleship: we can make a difference!!!!!! This year we have been treated to a most excellent Fall season. Mild temperatures are now yielding to a more seasonable chill in the air. The foliage has gloriously burst into a festive color and now those colors fade as the early evening dark signals that winter is near. This month of All Saints and All Souls reminds us of our need to seek the truth in all things; to choose the higher standard as we strive for holiness of life. As we recall those who have gone before us, here in our parish, in our families, and in our church, we pray for steadfast witnesses to the faith that has been handed on to us. The scripture passages selected for these last weeks of the liturgical year help us to focus on being accountable, presenting ourselves at the end of our days. Let us continue to support all those in our parish community who are seeking to deepen their relationship with God through Jesus
Christ. May we continue to reverently celebrate the sacraments so that the bond of communion might be strengthened among us as we witness to one another and the children in our midst. Each November, every parish and incorporated entity within our Diocese of Trenton must submit corporate resolutions for approval of His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, as President of each corporation under NJ statute. This year the Reverend Monsignor Thomas N. Gervasio, Diocesan Vicar General and Vice President of each corporate entity approved the resolutions. Annually there is a corporate resolution naming the Pastor as Secretary/Treasurer of the parish. Additionally, the nomination and ratification of two lay representatives from the parish. These Lay Trustees are to serve a one year term which is normatively renewed five additional times for a total of six years of service. Our parish is well served by the counsel of our Parish Trustees Bill LaMorte and Irene Weller. I am grateful for their willingness to assist me in the temporal administration of our parish resources. One is ex-officio to the finance counsel; the other is ex-officio to the pastoral council along with our Pastoral Associate for Temporal Administration, Edwin Sevillano, and the Pastor who serve on both councils in an exofficio role. Resolutions are also prepared memorializing or seeking permission for extraordinary expenditures or the receipt of extraordinary gifts. Do not forget to participate in our Fall clean up next weekend. Christmas Ministry in Need of Leadership St. Mary Christmas Sponsor-A-Family is in need of between two and four volunteer coordinators to take charge of running the program which provides Christmas gifts to several organizations such as The High Point School, Aslan Youth Ministries, The Center in Asbury Park (Aids affected families), Families in need within the Parish Community of Saint Mary, and the St Mary Charitable Outreach Program. Responsibilities include: Placing bulletin ads, at the appropriate time of year, to solicit sponsoring families from the parish community; Contacting the organizations and obtaining the gift recipient’s names and gift requests; Giving the gift recipient information to and instructing the sponsors on shopping, wrapping, and delivery of gifts;. Monitoring the progress of the shopping, wrapping, and delivery of the gifts to assure that the items will be ready for pickup or delivery at the times required by the distributing organizations. To facilitate this transition, the new coordinators would be guided the first year by the present program leaders, who would work alongside the coordinators. Christmas Sponsor-A-Family Purchase gifts for a family. You select the size of the family you wish to sponsor (2-6 people). Several families or a group of people can sponsor a larger family. “Light Up a Memory” Plans for the St. Mary Parish “Memory Tree” 12th Anniversary in December are already underway. A $10.00 donation signifies a light to honor all those we wish to remember during the Christmas season – both living and passed. His/her name will be inscribed in a special “Memory Book”, which will be on display in the Church Gathering Space. Each $10.00 also entitles the donor to a lovely card to send to the family of the deceased or to the honoree. The deadline for forms is Dec. 3, 2019. All contributions will benefit improvements at the Parish of St. Mary. Participants are also invited to 4 pm Mass and the joyous tree lighting ceremony, with music by St. Mary’s choir and a special reception, with delicious refreshments in the Gathering Space, on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
