Types of Prayers When we pray, that prayer takes several forms. Some are easily discernible, some are confused with others, but each has their own purpose. Personal Prayer - This is when you pray alone, such as at the start or end of the day. These may be prescribed prayers, such as the rosary or liturgy of the hours, or can be more original and individual. It can also be sitting in silence and letting God speak to you. Communal Prayer - As small as two or three people praying together, or as large a congregation as the imagination can produce. Due to several people praying, these are often prescribed prayers. For example, saying grace before meals with family, or reciting the creed with many people in church. Intercessory Prayers - At its most basic, this is praying for others, or praying to saints to intercede on our behalf. Following the teaching of Saint Paul, these prayers should for all God’s people, or universal in nature. Examples are praying for peace, for vocations, for the Church, etc. The prayers at Mass after the creed are, in fact, referred to as “The Universal Prayer”, however they may at times include prayers of the next type: Prayers of Petition - These are prayers asking for a specific intention. The offering of a Mass intention for a deceased love one is one example of this. Other examples “include asking for blessing upon a newly married couple, a sick family member, a prayer for guidance and the like.

Brought to the court of King Edward the Confessor in England when she was twelve, she and her family were forced to flee after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Shipwrecked off Scotland, they were befriended by King Malcolm of Scotland who married Margaret in 1070. Margaret and Malcolm had six sons and two daughters. Contrary to the general practice of royalty in that time, Margaret took charge of raising and educating her children. The Light Up A Memory ceremony will take place after the 4:00 PM Mass on Saturday, December 16. It is that time to decide who you would like to remember on our Parish's Beautiful "Memory Tree"! A donation of $10.00 per light will honor a loved one (living or deceased), and the lights will shine until the Christmas season is over on Epiphany. It is so touching to hear the children of our Religious Ed. Program each year singing hymns with the congregation during the lighting ceremony. There will be a special Memory Book on display in the Church Gathering Space, where all the names will be inscribed. Each $10 donation also entitles the donor to get a card to send to the family of the deceased or to the honoree. Cards can be picked up at the parish office. The deadline to submit THIS FORM is Monday, December 4. Thank you for participating in this wonderful parish tradition.

For the month of November It is the Church’s custom to reserve the month of November for the remembrance of all the faithful departed. Please use your All Souls envelope to write the names of those loved ones you would like to remember and kindly drop it in the collection boxes. The envelopes will be wrapped and placed near the tabernacle, and an intention will be added to the prayer of the faithful in the Masses celebrated on All Souls Day and during the month of November. Quo vadis for November 12. . . My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. We rarely, if ever, view our daily Christian living in light of the final coming of Christ. But his final coming is, in fact, the context which gives meaning to our daily behavior and our ongoing hope. If we are not ready at the Second Coming of Christ (with its accompanying judgment), we cannot count on anyone else to cover for us. We are provided now with all we need (for example, wisdom, invitation to vigilance, warnings about preparedness) to be ready when Christ comes. The real challenge is that we don’t think of this as merely a future event that won’t happen in our own lifetime. We don’t know when Christ will come again! And so Christian living requires that we act each day as if this were the day when our Bridegroom will come and invite us to the feast.
Last week we had the great privilege of voting. I hope that you took time to participate in this important act. The lighting project continues. The majority of the work has been completed. There are a few more areas to be upgraded and a bit of adjustment with the control system. Thank you for your patience during this project. Thanks to all those who participated in the Diocese of Trenton Faith to Move Mountains Capital Campaign. The money for this lighting upgrade was part of the rebate we received. We will thoroughly clean and paint the interior of the church during the month of January 2024. This is the first time since 2005 when it was opened after construction. It is overdue. More to come. I am grateful to all those who participated in the Liturgical Ministry Fair in our parish. There has been an increase in parishioners willing to serve. However, there remains a need for more participation. Thank you for your generous sharing of time and talent.
I am grateful to those who offered witness talks; those who prepared the materials for mailing; and those who have advised us along the way for the 2023 increased offertory program. We have these programs to keep our parish strong and on a solid footing. Charitable Giving is something very personal. The scriptures give us some insight as to what our responsibilities might be. It is important the we recognize our blessing and share from those blessings with our parish, church, our diocese and other charitable organizations. When I arrived in the Spring of 2013 our parish was in an unstable financial position. As we learned more and shared more information the reactions were many and varied. Basically, parishioners wanted to know how it happened, why “something” corrective was not in place, and why it was not openly shared? I wasn’t here prior to the spring of 2013. I assured parishioners that I would work with them to help us along the way. With good counsel from parish leaders and openness from our stakeholder parishioners we have been able to stabilize many aspects of our parish. As the leader of our parish community I am responsible for our current stability and how we are providing for our future. Stewardship of Treasure and Charitable giving is very personal. It is a central part of our spiritual lives. I have been practicing Stewardship in my life for more than 30 years. Recognizing how blessed we are is a starting point. Sharing from those blessings is the next step. Then repeat the process each year by taking another step. Thank you for your generous sharing and for your support of our parish. Christmas Sponsor-A-Family
Purchase gifts for a family. You select the size of the family you wish to sponsor (2-6 people). Several families or a group of people can sponsor a larger family. Gifts per person are usually a value of $50 and based on a list of needed items prepared by the family. This program adopts families from Aslan Youth Ministries. The goal is to sponsor families in need at Christmas.
