The Ascension of the Lord The Ascension of the Lord is the 40th day of the Easter Season, and as such falls on a Thursday. In some dioceses, it is transferred to the following Sunday, replacing the 7th Sunday of Easter. This solemnity commemorates Jesus’ ascension into heaven, an important tenet of our Catholic Christian faith, professed in both the Apostle’s Creed and the NicenoConstantinopolitan Creed. The Ascension is the return of the Son to the Father which precedes the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles 10 days later. Another key theological aspect ties into the resurrection Jesus was resurrected by the will of the Father and through His power, but Jesus ascends by his own will and power, the final earthly manifestation of his might and glory.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter. Yes, the command is simple: “love one another.” The demand is imposing: lay down our lives. Keeping God’s commandments is laying down our lives—we surrender our will to doing God’s will and in this is the dying. Caring for and reaching out to others is laying down our lives—also a dying. Doing the little things every day not because we have to but because we see the other as the beloved of God is dying. We choose all these and other ways to dying because we know this is love and love is risen Life rising to kiss us with a share in divinity. Last weekend we kept the tradition of crowning the image of the Blessed Mother. I enjoyed hearing the many and varied stories from our parishioners. So many recall having crowned the image of the blessed mother in their childhood home parishes and schools. I was particularly struck by some of the facial expressions of our young people who were present. We pray that Saint Mary, Seat of Wisdom will continue to intercede for us, our families and our parish community. I had the pleasure of receiving the recently appointed Chaplain serving our enlisted women and men who, with his family, resides at Naval Weapons Station Earle. The introduction was made courtesy of parishioners Bob Lutkewitte and Tom Foley. Chaplain Joe Pinzl is a Lutheran Pastor originally from Wisconsin. I am grateful to have made this contact and I offered our support however we might assist. We now have several parishioner families living on the base and I’m sure there are a few other single young adult Roman Catholics as well. Let us continue to pray for our enlisted women and men. The Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord is celebrated this week. This year it will be observed next weekend at the Saturday Afternoon and Sunday Morning masses. Our parish has been and continues to be blessed by many faithful volunteers who heed the call of Stewardship to share of their Time, Talent & Treasure for the building up of the Church and the Evangelization of others. There are many ways in which to serve. Please contact me or a member of the parish staff if you are interested in learning more. A special request goes to those who have recently retired from their careers. Retirement is truly a time to give back. It is a time to do something that can truly make a difference in the life of the community.
The 2021 Easter Collection Report should be published Pentecost Weekend. Thank you for your generous support, sharing and prayer. The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is transferred from Thursday, May 13, 2021 to Sunday, May 16, 2021, replacing the Seventh Sunday of Easter. This change is only for the present year and will be evaluated at a provincial meeting. This includes the transfer of the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord for both Saturday Vigil Mass, Sunday Masses of the Day and the Liturgy of Hours.
The celebration of Mass in the Extraordinary Form will observe the liturgical calendar proper to that form.
