The Solemnity of Pentecost occurs 50 days after Easter. Because Easter is a moveable feast without a fixed date, and Pentecost depends on the timing of Easter, Pentecost can fall anywhere between May 10 and June 13. The timing of these feasts is also where Catholics get the concept of the Novena - nine days of prayer - because in Acts 1, Mary and the Apostles prayed together continuously for nine days after the Ascension leading up to Pentecost.
Pentecost is the celebration of the person of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus, who were gathered together in the Upper Room. A “strong, driving” wind filled the room where they were gathered, and tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, allowing them to speak in different languages so that they could understand each other, and also gave the apostles the other gifts and fruits necessary to fulfill the great commission - to go out and preach the Gospel to all nations. It fulfills the New Testament promise from Christ (Luke 24:46-49) that the Apostles would be “clothed with power” before they would be sent out to spread the Gospel.

Catholic Charities Covid Outreach Update
The primary goal of Catholic Charities’ Covid19 vaccination outreach is to reduce barriers such as transportation, language, lack of health insurance etc. in the Black and Hispanic communities. These communities have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and are lagging well behind the vaccination rate of the white population. Catholic Charities is educating communities about vaccines, recruiting and training community healthcare workers and hosting clinics at which to date, over 600 people have been vaccinated. We are grateful to the many parishes who are supporting this effort. Religious Education Fall September 2021-May 2022 1st and 2nd graders are on campus and have a choice of: Tuesday 4:30-5:40 pm or 5:50-7:00 pm
3rd - 6th graders have weekly virtual LIVE classes through Google Classroom. The two choices are: Tuesday 4:30-5:30 pm or Wednesday 6-7 pm Each student must attend at least 4 intergenerationals throughout the school year as part of their yearly RE requirement. Once you have completed the intergenerational participation sheet, please either email it directly to Julia Cullen or drop off at the parish office by June 1st.

Confirmation Prep Classes Fall 2021 - Spring 2022 Classes will be offered both on campus in-person and in the live remote Google classroom format On campus/in person option will be offered on Mondays 4:15-6:15 pm Live remote Google Classroom option will be offered on Sundays from 5:00-7:00 pm. Classes will be held every other week (as the calendar permits taking into account holidays) from September through May. Requirements: Students and parents need to attend approximately three larger group functions throughout the year. Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost. The Spirit is given for the sake of mission, but the Spirit’s indwelling affects each of us personally, too. Our baptism -Pentecost requires that each of us die to ourselves and to anything that is evidence of our own sinfulness (second reading: “immorality, impurity, lust, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions, occasions of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like”). When we choose to die to ourselves we experience the new life that comes in the Spirit: “live, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, gentleness, self-control.” When the two lists are laid out side by side like this the choice seems rather easy and obvious: live in the Spirit so as to have the fruit of the Spirit. In our everyday lives the choice isn’t always so clear and easy. Our temptations to “works of the flesh” might be more subtle; for example, letting ourselves get too tired to respond charitably, choosing to sit watching TV rather than really talking with one’s spouse or children, getting by on our tasks rather than doing the best we can. The dying is most often in the little things! Come, Holy Spirit!
The Solemnity concludes the Liturgical Season of Easter. We begin the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time on Monday. The coming Sundays are Solemnities within Ordinary Time, Trinity Sunday and then Corpus Christi. We will return to the Mass Setting from the Roman Missal throughout the Summer months. The liturgical color is Green during Ordinary Time and the decorations are simplified. During the Month of June the Church observes the Feast
Day of Saint Anthony of Padua, The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, The Feast of Saint John the Baptist, & the Solemnity of Sts. Peter & Paul. Congratulations and THANK YOU to all those who have participated in the 2021 Easter Collection. Your faithful deliberate Stewardship of Treasure enables our parish to continue providing the very best for our parishioners and all those whom we serve. We have listed an overview of the gifts received this year as well as some facts from previous years. Next Monday is the civic holiday in which we honor those who have given their lives in maintaining the freedom that we enjoy. Memorial Day is an opportunity for us to come and pray for all our men and women in uniform, especially those who have died. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am. Come and begin your holiday observance by receiving Holy Communion and praying for all those who have given their lives for the freedom we enjoy. Also, there is a parade in Colts Neck along Heyers Mill Road. Come and be a part of this great local tradition. Memorial Day Weekend we will observe an abbreviated mass schedule on Saturday and Sunday (as well as Independence & Labor Day Weekends). Please be mindful as you prepare for mass next weekend. Mt Olivet Cemetery Memorial Day Mass
Gather as a family this week to celebrate Pentecost. Explain that with the coming of the Holy Spirit, we celebrate the birthday of Jesus' Church.
Prepare and decorate a cake. Have each family member come forward to light a candle on the cake and respond: "As the Father sent me, so I send you." Sometimes we need help and guidance to live as Jesus taught us. For your family prayer this week, pray for the gift and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Use this prayer: Come Holy Spirit! Fill our hearts with the power of your love. Talk about each of the gifts of the Spirit: wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence and wonder and awe in God's presence. How do you see these gifts at work in your family? Go on a family outing and fly a kite together. Talk about the power of wind. After the experience, discuss the power of God’s Spirit in the lives of family members.
The Annual Memorial Day Mass for the deceased buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Rd, Middletown, NJ 07746 will be celebrated on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 10:00am in the North Hill Chapel section of the Cemetery in front of the Mausoleum. A Wonderful May Meeting for the Martha Mary Guild With COVID rules relaxing a bit, the Guild held a "fun" meeting on Wednesday, May 12 - following all the COVID rules, of course. Rorie Coppola and Barbara Schaflin planned a special day for members to be together again and have a good time! Barbara, who is a trained and experienced Tai Chi leader helped the group to relax their bodies with a few special Tai Chi positions. Then, one of the members, Meredith Geneve, who has a beautiful voice, led everyone in a version of "Name that Tune" of 50's songs, where we filled in a line, instead of a title - singing along with Meredith. Rorie prepared so many beautiful prizes for drawings and many happy ladies went home bearing gifts and winning lottery tickets! True to the Guild's purpose, there was also a collection of items for Collier's Summer Camp Program. Pictured above is a sampling of bathing suits, beach towels, books and games. The generosity of our members is overwhelming! Unfortunately, there will not be a Clothing/Linen Sale this year, due to COVID, but hopefully it will happen in 2022. In the meantime, any women of the Parish interested in joining the Martha Mary Guild would be welcome.
