The entrance antiphon is one of the propers of the Mass, that is the text that changes each day in accord with the liturgical calendar, and in the hierarchy of the liturgy, one of the parts that should be sung each day. The 4th Sunday of Lent, also known as Laetare Sunday gets its name from the first few words of the Entrance Antiphon for the day.
The full translated text reads: Rejoice, Jerusalem, and all who love her. Be joyful, all who were in mourning; exult and be satisfied at her consoling breast.
The readings for the day take a more hopeful turn as we are now 21 days from the celebration of Easter. In Year A, the Gospel of Jesus curing the man born blind is proclaimed. In Year B, the famous John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. In Year C, the story of the prodigal son is heard. Some differences from the rest of the Lenten season: The clergy wear Rose-colored vestments, not unlike Gaudate Sunday, the day of rejoicing during the Advent season. The organ may be used as a solo instrument, a departure from its otherwise restricted use during the season of Lent. Flowers may be temporarily used in church decorations. The sense of being able to rejoice with the hope of the resurrection can be reassuring for some and the Church gives us this day for that reason. With the 5th Sunday of Lent, a more somber tone returns as we enter passiontide, Palm Sunday with the commemoration of the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the crucifixion, followed by Holy Week and the Sacred Paschal Triduum.

maintaining physical distance and silence. Penitents will be called into the chapel and directed to a priest confessor. The sacrament of penance will occur. Exit the chapel through the opposite door, and proceed into the church for your penance. Kneel in a pew, say the Act of Contrition, and pray your penance. When you have finished, please maintain silence and exit through the narthex.

2021-2022 Religious Education Families must be registered active parishioners whose children have been in the Religious Education program for at least one year (with the possible exception of first grader families). This includes the New Parishioner Orientation meeting. Copies of each student’s Baptismal certificate and record of previously completed Religious Education classes (if applicable) and Offered in January 2021 at registering in our program for sacraments must be received by the office when the firstMary time. the Parish of Saint Please be aware that children entering grades 2-8 in Sept 2021 must have completed and passed their previous Religious Education grade work before they can be registered for the next school year. Additionally registration/class enrollment will not be processed until all paperwork is in the office. Returning Students who do not have a copy of their Baptismal Certificate on file in the office WILL NOT be secured in a class for the 2021 - 2022 term.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate The Fourth Sunday of Lent known as “Laetare Sunday”. The contradiction in the paschal mystery is that what we abhor—the cross—becomes the instrument of redemption. God saves Israelites from death but in the paschal mystery we must embrace death for the only way to eternal life is by dying to ourselves, by allowing ourselves to be lifted up like Christ. Our good works (reaching out to others, doing our daily tasks with love and care, acting justly and charitably, etc.), then, are our way of being “lifted up.” This is how we are crucified, so that we might live. This coming week is the Memorial of Saint Patrick, Patron of Ireland and Irish Americans. Mass will be celebrated in our parish at 9:00 am. Come to Mass in honor of Saint Patrick, pray for those immigrants from Ireland to our country who helped to build our Catholic Church in the United States of America. Also on the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am. Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic we are not able to distribute the customary bread this year. During the Season of Lent Mass is celebrated daily in the Parish Hall Daily Chapel. Come and receive Holy Communion more frequently so that the special grace of the sacrament will accompany you throughout each day. Next weekend is our Parish Lenten Confessions. We have a full complement of Priest Confessors to provide for your needs. Consult the bulletin for further details. Please plan to participate! We continue our preparation for Holy Week, The Triduum,
and Easter Sunday. We ask for your kindness and cooperation in assisting us with preparing and celebrating these ancient rites of our church. Our Easter packet has been prepared and mailed to all of our registered parishioners. You should receive it within the coming week or so. If you have not received it by 18 March, please contact the parish office. Work continues on the completion of the Narthex/Gathering Space. It is my hope that we will complete most of the work prior to the Palm Sunday observance. The final details will be completed the week of 11 April. His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton will visit our parish to bless the new image of Mary, Seat of Wisdom on Saturday, 17 April for the 5:00 pm Mass in our parish church. Put this date and time in your schedule and plan to participate in the Mass and welcome our Bishop. Registration/Re-registration for our summer session religious education continues. The classes are beginning to fill. Please sign up and complete the process as soon as possible. Enrollment is first come, first served. Thank you for your cooperation. May these final weeks of the Lenten Season continue to be a special time of grace for you and your family.
