Question for Children: Jesus tells us not to be afraid. Name a time when you were afraid and Jesus helped you. Question for Youth: Jesus tells us that he will remember us to his Father if we proclaim him to others. How easy is it for you to talk about your faith with your friends? How about your family or people you don’t know very well? Question for Adults: What is your responsibility to Jesus? How and when will you carry out that responsibility?

Please pray for our Military & First Responders Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

SAINT OF THE WEEK John Fisher, Bishop and Martyr, 1469-1535 John was born in Beverly, York, England, the son of Robert and Mary Ann Fisher. His father died when he was very young, but his mother saw to it that John was well educated. From early on, John was recognized as a gifted student. He entered the University of Cambridge where he received his Master of Arts degree, and he was ordained a priest in 1491. Chosen as proctor of the university, John continued his studies earning the degree of Doctor of Divinity in 1501. In the same year, he was named vice chancellor of the university. Fisher’s reputation was widespread in England, particularly in intellectual circles. Lady Margaret, the Countess of Richmond and mother of King Henry VII, soon called him into service as her councilor. Already generous in her good works, Lady Margaret became more so under the influence of John Fisher. She gave alms to the needy, provided dowries for poor brides, distributed food, and provided shelter. In addition, John’s influence caused her to establish two colleges at Cambridge. Also admired by the king, John was nominated by Henry VII to be the bishop of Rochester in 1504, and assumed this position at the age of thirty-five. In the same year, he was elected Chancellor of the University at Cambridge. As bishop, John Fisher visited every parish in his diocese and spent much of his time attending to the sick and overseeing the care of the poor under his charge. At the same time, as chancellor of the university, John Fisher was gaining world renown for his contributions to the intellectual world as well as his confutation of the heretical stands of Martin Luther. WORSHIP & MUSIC Andrew J. Macirowski - Pastoral Coordinator for Worship & Music / Principal Organist Worship@StMarysColtsNeck.org • Music@StMarysColtsNeck.org
Mother's Day and Father's Day offer Catholics an opportunity to reflect on the sacred vocation of parenthood and to give thanks for the mothers and fathers who have helped shape our lives. While these observances are not part of the Church's liturgical calendar, they harmonize beautifully with Catholic teaching on the family as the "domestic church," the first place where children encounter love, faith, and the presence of God. Through the daily sacrifices they make, parents participate in God's own work of nurturing and sustaining life. Mother's Day calls to mind the unique gift of motherhood, which finds its highest example in the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary's loving care for Jesus and her faithful obedience to God's will continue to inspire Christian mothers today. The Church honors all mothers—those raising children, those who have gone before us in faith, and those whose spiritual motherhood enriches the lives of others through service, prayer, and witness. Father's Day likewise invites us to celebrate the vocation of fathers, whose role reflects the loving and protective care of God the Father. St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, stands as a model of humility, courage, and faithful leadership. As we honor our fathers, living and deceased, we pray that all parents may be strengthened in their calling and that our families may continue to grow in faith, hope, and love.

FAITH FORMATION Julia Cullen — Pastoral Coordinator of Faith Formation / Religious Education ReligiousEd@StMarysColtsNeck.org • (732) 780-2666 x. 309 We are busy planning and preparing for the 2026/2027 Religious Education program year. Along with catechesis, and being mindful of forming children in the faith, we are coming up with themes, crafts and all sorts of “specials” to engage the learners. Anything to help lay the foundations of faith in a real way. The program kicks off next month with our July VIRTUAL summer intensive and continues with our August ON CAMPUS and then our Fall program begins. In religious education there is no break, just accompanying our young parishioners as we all grow in faith together. Please pray for us as we begin another exciting year of formation! As we soon begin the 26/27 year of formation, it is important that we have each RE families up to date correspondence. At your convenience, please check in with your MY OWN CHURCH portal and be sure we have the most up to date email as well as cell phone and home phone. Being a digital parish, we must ensure all communications are getting out to families with all of the important RE happenings. Thank you in advance. Quo vadis... My Dear Parishioners: This weekend we celebrate the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this Sunday tell us in one more way that embracing the dying of the paschal mystery always leads to rising, but with a slightly different twist: these readings remind us that dying sometimes will be foisted on us by the evil-doing of others. At the same time the readings remind us that the rising given us is the presence of a caring and loving God. The gospel presents us with other word pairs that challenge us to the dying and rising we are to live: concealed/revealed; darkness/light; do not be afraid/be afraid; kill the body/cannot kill the soul; denies Jesus/acknowledges Jesus. These are always presented to us as choices. The disciple who lives the paschal mystery is one who places God before all else. At issue here is that we stay the course of faithful discipleship no matter what adversary we meet because, ultimately, what counts is fidelity to God. With this faithfulness, we need not fear for God has counted even all the hairs on our head! Last week we published a letter commending Edwin Sevillano and his team regarding the full implementation of Safe Environment standards and protocols. We are regularly audited for our compliance. The standards continue to be elevated requiring more and more people to participate. The letter indicated that our parish exhibits the highest standards in each category. We must continue to be vigilant providing the best for our children, families and vulnerable adults. Many thanks to all who support our parish so that we can provide the best services in the safest possible way.
Last week I had the opportunity to meet with Pastor Roy Mannix of the Lutheran Memorial Church in Tinton Falls. I very much enjoyed our time together and our conversation. He has a great amount of experience and a keen sense of the importance of ecumenical conversation. I hope that our conversation might continue and that we might support one another. The Martha Mary Guild board members enjoyed a luncheon to which I was invited. These ladies work very hard to advance their mission. They provide necessary resources to assist charities that assist women and children. They are already preparing for the Annual Clothing Sale held in September. Take time in the coming weeks to sort through some of your clothes closets. Plan to give some fir this important sale. Preparations continue to be made for the new fiscal year to begin 1 July 2026.Budget items are being reviewed as well as capital items. Salary and benefits schedules are underway so that we can continue to offer our parish staff competitive compensation for the work that they oversee/do. Many thanks to all of our bona fide parishioners for their sacrificial stewardship that enables us to fulfill our mission of prayer, formation and outreach. Remember that we will observe an “abbreviated mass schedule” for the next three weekends…Please make a note in your personal calendar. Thank you for your cooperation. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Father’s Day to all. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
