FOR DEEPER REFLECTION

Love rather than judge.

Question for Children: how can you welcome someone at school or in your neighborhood who is feeling left out?

Question for Youth: Jesus was able to see the faith of the woman, even though she was a sinner. Who is in need of your forgiveness, even though they have done you harm? What is one way that you can offer forgiveness to someone in the weeks to come?

Question for Adults: How can you show compassion toward the marginalized members of society today?

SAINT OF THE WEEK

Barnabas, Apostle and Martyr, First Century One of three persons formally recognized as Apostles who were not directly chosen by Christ among the original twelve, Barnabas was, ne ertheless, extremely active in apostolic work.

St. Luke, who in the Acts of the Apostles tells us of the communal life of the early Christian community in Jerusalem, singles out Barnabas’ sale of his estate and his laying the money from this sale at the feet of the apostles as an example of Christian calling. In speaking of this incident, Luke interprets Barnabas’ name as meaning “son of encouragement” (Lk 4:36-37). It is in Luke’s writings where we first see the reference to Barnabas as an Apostle.

We know from other references in the Acts that Barnabas had a strong influence on the other Apostles and was active in the early councils and missionary activity of the Church. When St. Paul came to Jerusalem following his conversion, the apostles and the faithful were suspicious of his change of heart. MORE HERE

WORSHIP & MUSIC

Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Catholic bishops of the nation have chosen to commemorate the milestone with a special spiritual act: the Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This historic gesture invites Catholics across the country to reflect on the nation's past, give thanks for its blessings, and seek God's guidance for its future.

The devotion to the Sacred Heart emphasizes Christ's boundless love, mercy, and compassion for humanity. By consecrating the nation to the Sacred Heart, the bishops entrust the people of the United States to the care of Jesus, praying for healing, unity, justice, and a renewed commitment to faith. The consecration also serves as a reminder that true freedom is rooted not only in political liberty but also in moral responsibility and spiritual renewal.

Taking place during the nation's semiquincentennial celebration, the consecration offers an opportunity for Catholics to unite in prayer for their country. As Americans look back on 250 years of history, this act of dedication encourages citizens to look forward with hope, seeking God's wisdom and grace as the nation continues its journey into the future.

Prayer cards are available in the rear of the nave, and the prayer is reprinted here for your convenience. 0 God, our Father and Creator, You have so richly blessed our homeland with natural beauty, abundant harvests, enshrined freedoms and the gift of faith. On this 250th anniversary of our founding, we consecrate ourselves and our country to Your loving providence and infinite mercy, which flow through the Sacred Heart of Your Divine Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. May you enliven Your Church in America with the wisdom and unity of Your Holy Spirit. Together as compatriots may we unite in gratitude and adoration, giving You the proper thanks and praise You are so rightly due. O Lord, forgive the sins of our nation, heal our divisions, and renew us in faith, hope and charity. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in You. Amen.

My Dear Parishioners:

Quo vadis...

Today we celebrate the Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time. We can be dog tired from a long day’s work and only want to go home and put our feet up, relax, and not be bothered. But then we go to choir practice or visit an elderly parent or spend some time helping the youngsters with homework and we actually seem to get a second wind! It’s amazing how service of others actuallygives back energy! This is something of an experience of dying and rising our service takes effort and energy (dying to self) but then we receive back much more (gaining new life). Even in the call to service the Shepherd is taking care of his people!

The month of June is dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This year the Solemnity of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus is observed Liturgically on Friday, 12 June 2026. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am at Saint Catharine Parish. I invite all to consider joining us in prayer commending our great country to the protection of the heart of Jesus. I believe that our team has prayer cards to be distributed so that you might pray this prayer for the remainder of themonththroughIndependenceDay4July at least.

It might be helpful to pray this prayer throughout the calendar year 2026.

Next weekend the civic community observes “Father’s Day”. As Catholic Christians this is a time for us to reflect on the very gift of life that is given to us from fatherhood. This is not merely about the act of conception, but the very real vocation

of men to participate actively in the parenting of children. Thus, father’s have a role that cannot be replaced in helping their children, grandchildren, etc…to develop a consciousness about right and wrong in daily living. This fundamental formation is something that is not learned at the computer or in front of the TV or even in the classroom. All of those circumstances can re-enforce virtue and values that are witnessed by role models. Next Sunday we honor and thank these men for their courage and their steadfastness in struggling to live according too their values and beliefs. Let us pray for a continued and heightened awareness of the dignity of God’s gift of human life.

Next weekend Summer officially begins. We encounter the longest day of the year. Let us make time to enjoy these beautiful days. Make sure to participate in Mass wherever you might be on a given weekend. Staying connected to the readings and receiving the Most Holy Eucharist regularly is an important part of our Roman Catholic spirituality.

We continue to make slow and steady progress in the ACA 2026. Please consider making a gift to help us reach our goal. Let us continue to pray for one another. Have a great week. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff.
