Corpus Christi The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is celebrated on the second Sunday after Pentecost, or two months after Easter Sunday. This day reaffirms our mystery of our Catholic faith in the transubstantiation. That is, that the bread and wine offered in the holy sacrifice of the Mass become the body and blood of Christ. As noted in the Council of Trent, "the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained.” This is a fundamental belief of our Catholic faith and one that sets us apart from other Christian denominations. It is important to remember that today, and every day, Jesus is present in all the tabernacles of the world, and at every Catholic Eucharistic celebration. In some places, a procession is held today, similar to the one on Holy Thursday, wherein the Blessed Sacrament is carried through the streets of the town to a smaller church or chapel, where benediction and/or adoration may take place.
As the Solemnity occurs on a Sunday, attendance at Mass is obligatory. The singing of the sequence (after the Epistle and before the Alleluia) is optional on this day, although highly encouraged, especially in communities that bear the name of Corpus Christi or are otherwise named in one the honor and glory of one of Christ’s titles.

Reinstating the General Obligation to Attend Mass The Catholic Bishops of New Jersey have announced on May 20, 2021 that they are lifting the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation beginning on Saturday, June 5, 2021, and Sunday, June 6, 2021. We are very pleased to welcome our parishioners to return to the regular participation in the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. Parishioners who are ill, recently exposed to the coronavirus or another serious or contagious illness, confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility, or with serious underlying health conditions remain excused from the obligation. We will therefore discontinue the broadcast Mass after June 13th, the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. There are many options on TV and the internet for those who choose. Bishop O’ Connell’s Reflection on Corpus Christi The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, is celebrated throughout the Church in several ways: first, on the altar through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass; second, from that same altar in the Sacred Host brought by priests, deacons and lay extraordinary ministers to the sick in hospitals and to the homebound; third, again from that same altar, in prayer and adoration before the Tabernacle containing Sacred Hosts either reserved or exposed in the rite of Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Through the words of the priest at Mass, recalling the Lord Jesus Christ’s own words at the Last Supper, unleavened bread and wine, the true fruit of the vine, is consecrated and transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. This sacred action is called “transubstantiation,” meaning the visible elements or “species” of the Eucharist — the bread and the wine — literally become the Body and Blood of Christ. How that actually happens is a mystery of the Catholic faith that has been believed and practiced since the very first Holy Thursday when Christ uttered the words “This is My Body, This is My Blood.” Read

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate The Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi Sunday. In fact, few of us will be challenged literally to put the proverbial collar around the cat. But all of us, through baptism, truly are challenged to have the same self-giving stance as Jesus. Eucharist is the centerpiece of our lives, challenging us: our identity is our mission—self-giving. This Solemnity provides us an opportunity to reflect on what Eucharist is for us as disciples of the Lord. The church teaches us that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. This teaching shapes our approach when we come for mass, when we are in the nave of the church building in the presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament reserved for the sick, dying (viaticum), and adoration in the tabernacle. This teaching also shapes how we prepare ourselves to come for mass: how we dress, what time we arrive, are we respectful of others, do we remain until the final blessing? When we truly believe that Jesus is present in the Eucharist, then our actions and attitudes reflect that true presence. The communion procession is a time for us to be intensely focused on the fact that God is coming to us in this sacrament. Our reverence and respect for the awesomeness of this sacrament will help to inspire and teach our young people. May Christ continue to be made present in our midst through the Eucharist that we faithfully celebrate together. The transition from spring into summer brings with it a flurry of activity. Weddings, First Communions, Confirmations, Ordinations, and various Graduations are times for family members to gather in celebration and in support of one another. Let us continue to support those
who are experiencing the mega milestones in their life this year. This weekend His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton has ordained 1 new Priest for service to the People of God in our Diocese of Trenton. Some may recall as a seminarian in our parish several years ago RJoy Ballacillo who is now Fr RJoy. Let us give thanks to almighty God for these vocations and the courageous response of these men to respond generously to that call. I am pleased to announce that Reverend Msgr. Michael J. Walsh will be joining our clergy team beginning July 2021. Fr. Mike, as he prefers, will be retiring from serving as Pastor of Saint James, Pennington/Saint Alphonsus, Hopewell/Saint George, and Titusville Parishes. He will reside at the Villa Vianney in Lawrenceville and here in 07722 on weekends and several days during the week. He will assist with Sacramental Liturgical ministry for our community and will alternate with Msgr. Troiano every other weekend at our cohort 13 partner Saint Catherine Parish, Holmdel. He will assist in re-establishing an RCIA Team and will be available for those wanting to speak with a priest. Fr. Gene will continue to assist at Saint Leo the Great, Lincroft on weekends and as needed, and Saint Gabriel, Marlboro for funerals and other Liturgical celebrations. More in the coming weeks. As June 5 ordination nears, Deacon Ballacillo reflects on path to priestly vocation When Rjoy Ballacillo was ordained a traditional deacon last year, he said he “felt real joy in knowing this is what God wants me to do.” His 16-year journey to the priesthood will culminate June 5 when he is ordained a priest by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., during a 10 a.m. Mass in Trenton’s St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral. The Mass will be livestreamed on all diocesan media outlets, including YouTube.com/trentondiocese.

The Child and Youth Protection unit is aimed at creating safe environments for the children and youth in our parishes and Catholic schools. Our mission is to assist parishes and schools in understanding and implementing the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. This involves criminal background screenings and training certification programs that advance the safety of our children. Our office coordinates and monitors the diocesan effort to ensure that all volunteers and employees submit to a criminal background check through fingerprint analysis and attend the required VIRTUS Awareness Training Program. These three-hour courses cover the scope and nature of child sexual abuse in addition to giving participants the five steps that caring adults can follow to protect children.
