SAINT OF THE WEEK Elizabeth of Portugal, Wife, Mother and Religious, 1271-1336 - The daughter of Peter III, King of Aragon, Elizabeth was named for her great-aunt, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. She was destined for a throne from birth, but her early upbringing taught her humility and a strong sense of charity. At the age of twelve, Elizabeth was married to Denis, King of Portugal. Denis was a good ruler, but a less-than-ideal husband. While he allowed Elizabeth complete freedom to carry out her charitable work and her devotion, he didn’t feel obliged to emulate her.
Elizabeth rose early each morning to pray and had other regular devotions in the afternoon and evening. Like her namesake, Elizabeth felt called upon to take care of those less fortunate than herself. She built hospitals and founded orphanages, and also ordered that pilgrims and poor strangers be provided with lodging and other necessities. In all of this, Elizabeth never neglected her official duties or the care of her family. When Denis became seriously ill in 1324, Elizabeth devoted all of her attention to caring for him. During his long illness, Denis repented the wanton life which he had led and died in 1325 in a state of grace. .READ MORE HERE

WORSHIP & MUSIC Independence Day As our nation celebrates Independence Day, American Catholics have an added reason to give thanks. The freedoms proclaimed on July 4, 1776—including the God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—have allowed the Church to flourish in our nation. Religious freedom is one of our country's greatest blessings, enabling Catholics to gather for Mass, educate their children in the faith, serve those in need, and live the Gospel openly. Our gratitude for our nation should always be rooted in prayer. Throughout our history, Catholics have sought God's guidance for our leaders, our military, first responders, and all who work to preserve peace and justice. Patriotism and faith are not competing loyalties; rather, authentic love of country inspires us to build a society that reflects the dignity of every human person and the values of the Gospel. As we enjoy fireworks, family gatherings, and holiday traditions, let us also remember to thank God for the gift of freedom and to pray for our nation. May the United States continue to be a land where faith can be lived freely, where justice prevails, and where all people are treated with charity and respect. May God bless our country and help us to be faithful citizens of both our nation and the Kingdom of God.

High School & College Students As a parish community we recognize the need to support graduates in staying connected to the Catholic Church after they graduate. With more than 80% of high school students leaving their faith in college, we need a way to connect graduates to the next step in their faith journey. Our Parish has partnered with Newman Connection, which connects graduating students to the Catholic campus ministry of their chosen college. (whether it is a Catholic college or not.) Quo vadis... My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. By inviting us to come to him and take up his yoke, we in turn become the revelation of God to the world. We usually think of the difficult yoke we carry with Jesus in terms of suffering and dying to self, and surely that is one part of it. But this gospel suggests another aspect of the yoke— ourselves being a revelation of God to the world—which is perhaps even more difficult. In order to take up faithfully this mission to reveal God, we must hand our lives over to Jesus such that the risen One can dwell within us. This means, too, that all our actions must conform to how Jesus himself might have lived. We must be constantly open to the revelation Jesus makes to us, be open to the many ways Jesus comes to us. Only in this way can we be a revelation of God to others. The “rest” Jesus offers, then, really carries great demand—to share in Jesus’ mission to make known the Father. PROJECT 2030 is a parish wide initiative to gather information from our parishioner stakeholders. The data collected will be collated and serve to help us update our priorities and plans for the future. It is critical that at least each household respond. There is an opportunity for multiple members from each household to participate. This survey focuses on how our parish serves the poor & needy through outreach and charitable appeals. This survey takes 5 or 6 minutes to complete. Throughout the next two years there will be four or five more surveys. They are being organized by areas of parish life overseen by staff persons. Thank you for your love of the church and our parish.
This weekend we officially observe the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation. It is a milestone worth celebrating. It is also a time to reflect on our history, successes and failures. It is a time to talk about our country to young people, especially sharing the struggles of our forbears especially the sacrifice made for future generations.
We continue to make slow, steady progress to meet our 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal goal. It is the responsibility of each parish family to participate appropriately in this annual appeal. Recently, several bona fide generous parishioners mentioned that they had made a gift to the 2026 ACA but would be willing to make a second gift to help us. I thanked them and asked them not to do this. They did their part and we are grateful. Others must also do their part in order for our parish to support our bishop and the ministries and works that come from the Diocese of Trenton. May each of us prayerfully reflect on how we might support this effort. When we receive the appeal letter it is very simple… make your pledge/gift. If everyone would heed that invitation then we would easily make our goal. I’m not sure why all of the resistance? Please prayerfully consider how your family might participate this year. Together we can make this happen. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Independence Day! Happy Sunday! Peace. Father Jeff
