Please pray for our Military & First Responders

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

FOR DEEPER REFLECTION

The kingdom of God is a treasure beyond price.

Question for Children: be with Jesus, what would you trade from your own things for that?

Question for Youth: Today reminds us that God’s kingdom is worth sacrifice. What do you need to sacrifice in order to follow God in your own life? Why are you willing to make that sacrifice?

Question for Adults: Using Jesus parable as your starting point, describe in your own words what the Reign of God is for you personally, and use a parable to describe it: “The reign of God is _____.”

SAINT OF THE WEEK

-Christopher, Martyr, Third Century Christopher is one of the most popular saints in both the East and in the West. Many stories surround him, some contradictory and confusing.

One of the most popular traditions holds that Christopher was a strong giant who made his living by carrying people across a raging stream. For years, he searched in vain to find someone more powerful than himself. He finally concluded that this could only be Christ, since the devil feared Christ.

One of his passengers was a small child who grew so heavy as they crossed the stream that Christopher thought they would both drown. The child then identified himself as Christ and the heaviness was caused by the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Saint Christopher was martyred during the reign of Decius in about 251. His name means Christbearer and as a result of this legend, he is the patron of travelers especially, in modern times, of motorists. READ MORE HERE

WORSHIP & MUSIC

World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

The World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, celebrated each year near the Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne the grandparents of Jesus is a beautiful reminder of the important place older adults hold in the life of the Church. Established by Pope Francis in 2021, this day invites us to recognize the wisdom, faith, and love that grandparents and seniors share with their families and communities. Their witness reminds us that every stage of life is a gift from God. This year's theme, chosen by Pope Leo XIV, is "I will never forget you" (Isaiah 49:15). These reassuring words remind us that God's love never fades, even in the frailty of old age, and they call each of us to ensure that no grandparent or elderly person feels forgotten or alone.

Grandparents are often the keepers of family traditions and the first teachers of faith, passing on stories, prayers, and values from one generation to the next. Many of our elderly parishioners continue to serve quietly through their prayers, encouragement, and example of perseverance. Their lives are a testament to God's faithfulness through times of joy and hardship. As we celebrate this special day, let us take time to honor the grandparents and elderly people in our lives. A visit, a phone call, or an invitation to share a meal can be a meaningful expression of gratitude and love. May we always remember that no one is ever too old to have an important place in the Church, and may we continue to build a parish community where every generation is welcomed, valued, and cherished.

Congratulations on your Baptism

As a parish community we recognize the need to support graduates in staying connected to the Catholic Church after they graduate. With more than 80% of high school students leaving their faith in college, we need a way to connect graduates to the next step in their faith journey. Our Parish has partnered with Newman Connection, which connects graduating students to the Catholic campus ministry of their chosen college. (whether it is a Catholic college or not.)

My Dear Parishioners:

Quo vadis...

Today we celebrate the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. This “treasure’ does have its cost: we must actively search, find, sort. In the gospel the seekers go out in obvious places to find the treasure. For us our discovery of the kingdom is most often in our everyday circumstances when we experience overwhelmingly in the in-breaking of God’s presence. This may be something so simple as the smile of a person’s grateful thanks or the sense of rightness that comes with fidelity to daily prayer. The challenge is to recognize that God chooses to be present to us!

We have completed the two-week July Virtual Module of our Summer RE Program. I have heard many positives from families who have participated. Some were very grateful since this model allows families to be away from 07722 while still completing RE. The August two-week In Person Module of our Summer RE Program begins in a few weeks. Registration is fully subscribed. Please note that during this program the buildings will have limited accessibility in accord with the Safe Environment Norms and Child Protection Policies. Thank you for your cooperation.

There will be a New Parishioner Orientation during the month of August. We continue to welcome those who have moved into 07722 recently. Participation in this informative session is required. It is a time to learn of our history and expectations for membership in our Parish Community. I am grateful to our staff for taking the time to be present to our new parishioner families and answer their questions and concerns.

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is observed during the month of August. This year, this Solemnity is not observed as a holy day of obligation since it is on a Saturday. We have a revised Mass Schedule for Holy Days. We are coordinating Mass Times with our Co-hort Parish of Saint Catherine, Holmdel. Rather than having masses celebrated at the same time, they are now staggered to allow more flexibility for parishioners to participate. Please consult the e-bulletin for more details. Thank you for your cooperation as we strive to serve the many and varied needs of our parishioners.

We will be accepting gifts for the 2026 Mission Co-op in support of the Vincentian Missionary Apostolate in Madagascar. Thank you for your support. We continue to make slow, steady progress toward our 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal Goal. I encourage everyone to participate in an appropriate way for your family.

The summer continues as we begin the month of August. I hope that you can enjoy some outdoor time before we launch into the fall season. When travelling don’t forget to locate a Roman Catholic Church for Sunday Mass. It is good to experience how other communities come together for prayer and the celebration of the Eucharist. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
