SAINT OF THE WEEK Bridget, Wife, Mother and Religious, c. 1303-1373 - Bridget (called Birgitta in Sweden) was born the fifth child of Birgir Persson, the governor of Upland, and Ingeborg, daughter of another provincial governor. From this high born position, she seemed destined to play some role in the temporal affairs of Sweden. While she did influence worldly matters, her mission was not limited to Sweden, but, rather, her voice was heard around the Christian world. The first of the many visions she was to have throughout her life came to Bridget at the age of seven, when she saw herself being crowned by Our Lady. At ten, she pictured Christ on the cross telling her that he was made to suffer by those who spurned his love for them. When she was thirteen years old, Bridget married Ulf Gudmarsson, himself only eighteen. Ulf, described as “rich, noble, and wise,” and Bridget had eight children, one of whom is Saint Catherine of Sweden. Early on, the couple became heavily involved in charitable work and brought their children up to maintain a sense of humility and obligation. In 1335, Bridget was named the principal lady-in-waiting to Blanche of Namur, wife of King Magnus II of Sweden. At one point, Bridget took a leave of absence from the royal court to go with her husband on a pilgrimage to SpainREAD MORE HERE

WORSHIP & MUSIC Saint Mary Magdalene One of the few named women in the Bible, Mary Magdalene was a devoted disciple of Jesus and one of His closest followers. In the Gospel of Luke, we are told that “Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out…” (Luke 8:2). From that moment on, Mary faithfully accompanied Jesus throughout His public ministry, supporting Him and remaining with Him even when many others fled. She stood at the foot of the Cross during His crucifixion and was among those who witnessed His burial, demonstrating remarkable courage and unwavering love. On the morning of the Resurrection, Mary Magdalene became the first person to encounter the risen Christ. In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells her, “Go to my brothers and tell them: I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God” (John 20:17). Mary immediately obeyed, announcing to the apostles that she had seen the Lord. Because she was entrusted with proclaiming the joyful news of Christ's Resurrection, the Church has long honored her with the title "Apostle to the Apostles," a title highlighted by Pope Francis when he elevated her memorial to a feast in 2016. Her witness reminds us that God often calls ordinary people to share the extraordinary message of the Gospel. The Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene on July 22. She is the patron saint of women, converts, repentant sinners, and those seeking a deeper relationship with Christ. Although she has sometimes been mistakenly identified with other women in the Gospels, the Church recognizes her for who Scripture clearly presents her to be: a faithful disciple whose life was transformed by Christ's mercy. Her example encourages us to remain steadfast in faith, to trust in God's power to transform our lives, and to joyfully proclaim the hope of the Resurrection to others.

Quo vadis... My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The impulse of the first parable is to pull the weeds. The impulse during our whole Christian living is be impatient with ourselves as we grow in our discipleship. Part of living the paschal mystery is to be patient with ourselves, especially when we have failed. The forgiveness and patience of God assure us that God permits repentance (see first reading) and extends forgiveness. Even our mistakes are ways that we have “ears…to hear” and learn better the ways of God. God’s final judgment comes at the “end of the age” when, hopefully, all of us have lived the ways of patience and faithfulness and have borne fruit. Congratulations to our Faith Formation Team and all those who have assisted with the Virtual Summer Intensive Religious Education Module for grades 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6. The program continues this coming week and will conclude Friday. It is very important that the Church strive to be at the center of people’s lives. None of this would be possible without your commitment of Stewardship. The Time, Talent and Treasure that many of you share enables us to continue to build upon the wonderful foundation in parish life that we have received. The parish needs to be a community where we can all come together and celebrate our diversity and uniqueness while together we are the Body of Christ at this time in this place. We have another module scheduled for August 2026. This module will be in person hosted on campus. During these hours when the children are present there will be restricted access in the buildings. Please observe all posted placards.

Our Parish Pastoral Council has been busy articulating some of the needs that exist and how we might address them. Please complete the PARISH 2030 survey. It has been emailed to all of our registered parishioners. A link is also provided I the weekly ebulletin. We want to hear from you. Your prayerful discernment and assessment of how we serve the poor & needy, respond to charitable appeals and provide outreach to the vulnerable and marginalized. Thank you for taking the time to help us shape the future. We continue to make progress toward our 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal goal. As we continue to make slow steady progress it is important to note that we continue to expand the number of participating families. This is an important part of being a bona fide member of our parish and the church. THANK YOU. We welcome to our cohort 13 two pastors who have been recently appointed. Reverend Fr. Daniel F. Swift to Saint Leo the Great Parish in Lincroft and Reverend Fr. Brian T. Butch to Saint Gabriel Parish in Marlboro. May God continue to bless them with pastoral zeal. Let us pray for all priests.

I hope that the summer months offer each one of you an opportunity for some rest and re-creation. Take some time to be outdoors and enjoy the beauty of our Garden State. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
