Updated Covid-19 Protocols at St Mary Parish
Bishop’s Anniversary Blessings 2021; October 10, Ocean/Monmouth
There are updated directives from the Diocese where masks will no longer be required for fully vaccinated persons. If not fully vaccinated, persons are strongly encouraged to follow CDC guidance and wear a face mask in public settings. Also Effective June 4, all indoor gathering limits will be removed .
All couples celebrating their 1st, 25th or 50+ wedding anniversary during the 2020 or 2021 calendar year are invited to share the Eucharist, reaffirm your sacred wedding vows, and receive Bishop O’Connell’s Episcopal Blessing.
Although these directives represent a reduction of pandemic restrictions, St Mary has a few requirements for Mass.
The Sign of Peace will resume but we encourage parishioners to replace a handshake with a reverent gesture, such as a nod or wave.
During the Our Father please refrain from holding hands or making contact with any nonfamily member.
St Mary has decided to continue with the electronic bulletin that is timely emailed to our parishioners each week. If you should require a printed copy, please contact Andrea Billitteri at the parish Office (732-780-2666 ext. 311) and one will be made available to you.

With the lifting of the dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass, we have discontinued the broadcast Mass after June 13, the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. There remain many options on TV and the internet for those who choose.

Couples from Ocean and Monmouth Counties may attend the Mass and Blessing at the CoCathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine in Freehold on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 3 pm. That is what the new proposed document to be drafted in the next few months will consider, similar to the USCCB document on the Holy Eucharist (“Happy Are Those Called to His Supper”) published in 2006, not a set of national norms on Eucharistic reception, although worthy receiving of the Holy Eucharist will surely be addressed.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. This gospel account is far more than an interesting “super size” story; it primes us to ponder the great mystery of Jesus himself as the Bread of Life (which we will hear about on subsequent Sundays) and his selfgiving that enables us to share in it. The challenge for us is far more than believing in Jesus’ self-giving as a sign of fulfillment and promise of eschatological glory that we share even now. We Christians are to see our lives through the lens of God’s lavish abundance. Do we? This weekend we welcome Father Dawit Moroda from the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte of Ethiopia. He comes to us as part of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith Mission Cooperative. Please be attentive to his message and support the ministries that he and his community promote throughout the world. The past two weeks we held our July Summer Religious Education Intensive Virtual Session. I have heard positive comments from some participants. Our Parish RE Staff has expressed gratitude for the collaboration with parents and families. The catechists are mostly certified teachers from catholic schools throughout our Diocese of Trenton. In addition to being certified teachers they are also certified catechists, that is teachers of religion, and fully compliant with our Safe Environment Standards. We continue to make slow and steady progress in providing the very best for our parishioner families. We can and do make a difference when what we teach is also witnessed at home, especially participating regularly in Sunday Mass. The August Session will be in person on campus. Let us pray for our catechists, students and their parents. Last week I had the opportunity to catch up with Father Victor Hoagland CP. It has been more than a year since we talked in person. He looks great and
we shared some good conversation. I assured him of your prayer for him and he sends his greetings and blessings to us. He has taken some more responsibility at his monastery in Queens NY and has restricted outside ministry to a few things closer to home. However, that being said, I told him that we would welcome him if he should be in the area. Maybe he can come and celebrate mass when some from our clergy team are away for some time off. The participation in our 9am daily mass has grown since co-vid 19 lockdown. Each week we see some new faces and on occasion families come to offer the intentions for their beloved deceased. The chapel offers us the space and intimacy to accommodate this increase of participation. Additionally, since the Baptismal Font has been repaired for use, we have place the Altar originally in the Spiritual Center near the Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the Holy Land with a book for Prayer Intentions. We will also make available Rosaries for private prayer. I am grateful to those who help us provide for the continued needs of our parish community. I continue to notice an increase in the food that is being offered for the Poor & Needy. We receive your food items in the narthex gathering area of the church. Our parish now directs the food we collect to Saint Catherine, Holmdel Food Pantry. This is another way in which we collaborate with another Co-Hort 13 parish. Others continue to offer a certain amount each month through their online giving account. This is a simple way to make sure that the poor and needy are cared for whenever there is a request for assistance. Thank you for your generous sharing. Have a great week. Missionary Co-op Weekend July 24th and 25th Fr Dawit Moroda will be making the plea at all Masses for the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte of Ethiopia. The Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte is one of thirteen Dioceses in Ethiopia. It provides pastoral and social services in the western part of Ethiopia. People are mainly small-scale farmers whose livelihood totally depends on the rain-fed agriculture and animal products. Beside evangelization, spiritual assistance and family counselling, the church renders educational services for poor children, literacy programs for adults, mother and child support, old age assistance, drinking water facility, construction of houses for the poor and others. There will be a box labeled “ Missionary Cooperation Plan” in the Narthex of the church for your donations. Pantry Coordinator Open Door Food Pantry and Advocacy Program is seeking a part-time Pantry Coordinator to assist with daily operations. The coordinator will report to the Director.
