Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate The Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our reflection on this Sunday’s gospel isn’t really setting up an opposition between keeping the law and doing good for others. Probably in our society and Church today we need to become more aware of the value of keeping laws. Our reflection does alert us to the fact that keeping laws alone isn’t enough. All our actions are directed to the good of others and the furthering of God’s kingdom. Keeping laws promotes good order in any community; doing good for others promotes right relationships in those same communities. Law is something external to us, rather easily measured. Mercy and compassion are internal to us and can be measured only in terms of the good we actually do for others. Laws are internalized when they are kept for the sake of others. We are to do as the Samaritan in the parable: let the law of mercy and compassion gain for us eternal life. Both our Pastoral Council and Finance Council meet throughout the year including the summer months. Their consultation and advice is most important as we respond to changing demographics and needs. We have reviewed our plan for community building opportunities and will embark on a new initiative beginning later this summer. “Mass in the Grass” is an initiative to bring the Church to parts of our parish community. A designated host family will invite Catholics, active and inactive, to their home and we will celebrate Mass together and enjoy very simple refreshments. It is in this way that can gather in smaller numbers to begin to strengthen existing bonds and develop new ones. I am grateful to the leadership of our Pastoral Council for undertaking this goal for evangelizing. This is also an opportunity for us
to welcome new Catholic families into our parish. I hope to schedule a few this year and maybe a half dozen or so in each of the upcoming years. It is no longer acceptable for us to assume that new families will automatically come to us. Some do and some do not. Our goal is for the Church to come to them. More on this as it develops. We are putting the finishing touches on our Financial Reports. Preliminary consultation has begun regarding our FYE 30 June 2020 budget numbers. Final review will be scheduled for the August quarterly meeting. A full report will be issued this coming October. Next weekend we will welcome those families who are participating in the July Summer Intensive RE Program. They will join us for the 12:00 noon Mass followed by a brief orientation. Let us keep these families in our prayer as they discover the beauty and richness of our Catholic Faith. There will be a second module during the month of August to accommodate the large number of participants. It is never too early to begin thinking about what you might have to share for the Martha Mary Clothing Sale. The ladies will begin to collect and sort these items at the end of August. Look through your wardrobe and locate those items that are now too big for you to wear…consider donating them to this noble cause. This past week I had the opportunity to welcome Reverend Msgr. Carlo Dell’Osso for a visit. Currently he is the Secretary for the Vatican Archaelogical Commission and teaches at several universities throughout the City of Rome. I welcome the visit and the time to catch up with one another and learn about the projects he is overseeing. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Have you considered making Your IRA Required Minimum Distribution to the Parish of St. Mary If you are over the age of 70 1/2 and have a traditional IRA and /or a Roth IRA, your required minimum distribution can be directed to St. Mary Parish of Colts Neck as a “qualifying charitable distribution”. The Charitable distribution must be from a traditional IRA or Roth IRA.
The charitable distribution must be direct from the IRA trustee to St. Mary Parish.

Catechist Spirituality Day!
PARISH OFFICE VOLUNTEERS Our committed and busy parish staff appreciate some helping hands. If you have some hours a week to help us out at the parish office, please consider volunteering. Parishioners volunteer their time assisting with a variety of business office related tasks as needed. Volunteers provide a welcoming presence in responding to incoming phone calls and office visitors. Duties include answering the phone and assisting parishioners and visitors with Mass cards and questions. Basic office skills and professionalism are required as our office staff represents St. Mary Parish. Training is provided.
