Upcoming Liturgical Events We are currently in the shorter portion of Ordinary Time between Christmas and Lent, but there are several items of note that occur during this short time. Please take note of the following dates.
Weekend of January 29-30 Palm collection boxes will be placed in the narthex. Bring your blessed palms from previous years and place them in the boxes. Palms are burned in the process of creating the ashes for Ash Wednesday, or added to the Easter fire.
February 2nd The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas) - 9AM Mass in the Chapel. Candles that will be used during the church year are blessed at this Mass. Parishioners may also bring candles from home that they wish to have blessed.
February 3rd The Memorial of Saint of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr—9AM Mass in the Chapel The blessing of throats will occur at this Mass.
Weekend of February 12-13 World Marriage Day The Church celebrates the institution of marriage and a blessing is given to couples in attendance at Mass.
Saint of the Week: Saint Titus Bishop
Titus was a Greek and a close friend of Saint Paul’s who interceded or mediated for Paul in Corinth more than once. He accompanied Saint Paul on his third missionary journey and acted as Paul’s secretary at the council in Jerusalem. Paul’s first letter to Titus advises him on how to conduct his mission as a bishop. He tells him to be blameless and have a firm grasp of the Bible so he can preach with sound doctrine and refute those who dispute that doctrine. He died in Crete, probably at an advanced age. 'EXODUS: Called to Freedom,' looks through the lens of Christ and the Church to show that, more than just seeking to free his people from the domination of Pharaoh, God desired to free his people from the far more dangerous grip of sin. Liturgy of The Word Dismissal The Liturgy of The Word Dismissal is the practice of having the children, ages 4-12, leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word and gather in a separate environment to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding. The purpose of making the liturgical experience more accessible to the assembled children is to nourish their faith experience and to affirm their value as important participants in the liturgy of God’s Word.
We will resume this program on 30 January 202210am mass Please RSVP here so we can get an idea of how many children are interested. We will add masses as the need arises. We are still in need of a few more parent/ parishioner volunteers to help facilitate. Please call the RE office or submit your information here if you are interested.
7th and 8th grade Mini-retreat Dates and times have been set for the mandatory parent/student mini-retreat
8th grade: February 6, 2022 7th grade: February 27, 2022 One parent must attend with student. The retreat is for both the online Google classes and the live on campus group. The retreat will replace the regularly scheduled class times for that grade, that week (no class for 8th grade on 2/6 or 2/7, no class for 7th grade on 2/27, 2/28). Both retreats will begin with 12:00 Mass and ending at approximately 3:00pm.

An Invitation from The Martha Mary Guild
Please join us on Wednesday, February 9th The parish of St. Mary is blessed with the presence of Monsignor Michael Walsh – who prefers being called Fr. Mike – and the Martha Mary Guild is looking forward to the February meeting on Wednesday, the 9th. Fr. Mike was ordained in 1973 and has served in the diocese of Trenton since then. He was at St. Mary’s in Middletown for 10 years and we are happy that he has “made his way” to St. Mary’s in Colts Neck! Father will concentrate on our Catholic culture and Lent (which begins on March 2, 2022) and RCIA, which is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Many of us have heard of RCIA, but never really understood the process. Fr. Mike will enlighten everyone and answer any questions that arise. Please note that the rosary is prayed in the “former chapel” at 11:30 a.m. This is a lovely tradition that the Guild established several years ago and we look forward to many participants. BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) is at noon and Fr. Mike will begin at 12:30. Every month, the Guild collects items for various organizations and it is heartwarming to see the kindness of our members in the huge amount that always appears! In February, we will be collecting toiletries for Fulfill and we thank you for your generosity.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. Living the paschal mystery means that we continually look for the poor, captive, blind, and oppressed among us. We don’t have to look very far! “Today this passage has been fulfilled” is now true only when we ourselves respond to those around us who need a nourishing, strengthening, joyful word. This means that God’s word isn’t something we only hear on Sunday, but becomes a living word in our hearts, inspiring us to be in our very selves living gospels. As we gradually grow into being anointed by the Spirit, we like Jesus are the fulfillment of the Scriptures.

Each year 3 February is the optional memorial day of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr. It is customary that the faithful come to the church to have their throats blessed. We will bless throats at the conclusion of the 9:00am daily mass on February 3rd. . I encourage you to keep this wonderful custom by prayerfully participating in the celebration of Eucharist. The Season of Lent begins in early March this year. Start thinking now about how you might enter into this time of prayer and penance. Make time for some private prayer and devotion. Consider celebrating the Eucharist more frequently by participating in daily mass celebrated in the Chapel. The Way of the Cross is another opportunity for meditation on the Lord’s Passion and Death. Please mark your calendar for Sunday, 3 April at 3:00pm in order to participate in our Parish Lenten Penance & Reconciliation/ Confessions. We will have 13 or so priest confessors for your convenience. Our parish staff members and liturgical leaders will be reaching out to parishioners for participation in the Liturgies of Holy Week, The Triduum and Easter during the month of march. Please be open to participating so that we might continue to include as many parishioners as possible.
We have enclosed a report of the 2021 Christmas Collection. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to our parish. This report shows the highest amount recorded in our parish history. We have included some charts and patterns so that you can be informed. This year was affected by the omicron variant and did show in the number of persons physical participating on out parish liturgies. It also demonstrates how many of our parishioners make their gift to the Parish Christmas Collection prior to 24 December and after 25 December. There is an increasing number who travel for this great Solemnity of the Church. However, as the awareness of being stakeholders increases so too has the generosity of our parishioners whether physically here in 07722 or out of town. I am very grateful for all of the many sacrifices that you make for our parish. THANK YOU! Have a great week. Let us remember one another in payer. Happy Sunday. Peace.
