LITURGICAL COLORS Throughout the liturgical year, the changing of the color of vestments worn by the clergy (and in some places, the underlaid altar cloth and communion veil) is a visually symbolic way of marking the tone of the celebration. GREEN - Ordinary Time Symbolizes life. Used in Ordinary Time, in which the Gospel readings tell of the story of Jesus’ earthly ministry, laden with parables and other teachable moments. WHITE - Christmas, Easter, Feasts and Solemnities of the Lord and Saints, Marian, Requiem Symbolizes purity, light, glory of God. Used during the joyous seasons of the year, as well as for important Holy Days, and at Masses of Christian Burial. VIOLET - Advent, Lent, Requiem Symbolizes preparation and penance. Used during the penitential seasons, sometimes used at Masses of Christian Burial and All Souls Day. ROSE - Gaudate Sunday, Laetare Sunday Symbolizes rejoicing, or anticipation of great things to come. Used on the penultimate Sundays of the penitential seasons to indicate a shift in mood from that of reflection to looking forward to the coming joyous season, but not fully living in that joy just yet. RED - Passion, Holy Spirit Used on Palm Sunday and Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, and on feasts or memorials of martyrs, symbolizing the blood shed for the faith. Also used on Pentecost and at Confirmation to symbolize the fire of the Holy Spirt. OTHER COLORS GOLD or SILVER may be used as a substitute for White, with gold especially for the Christmas and Easter seasons. Also used as accent colors on vestments with other primary colors. BLACK is sometimes permitted for use at Masses for the Dead, although not common in the United States. BLUE is associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary. Although it is not used on vestments as a primary color, it may be otherwise featured. For example, all clergy in the Diocese of Trenton have cream-colored vestments with gold and blue accents, as the Cathedral is named in honor of the Assumption of Mary.
World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life on February 2, 2021 and in parishes over the weekend of February 6-7. This event is a special time for individual parishes and the greater Church to celebrate the gift of consecrated life and pray for men and women discerning a consecrated vocation.

ATTENTION: NEW RE PROGRAM TO KICK OFF THIS FALL We are very excited to announce that we will be transitioning to a live, weekly, google classroom for our 3-6 graders for the 2021-2022 Offered in January 2021 at school year. We will no longer be using the MY FAITH DELIVERED online program. the Parish of Saint Instead, Mary you will register for a weekly google class that will run from September 2021 to April 2022. The two options are as follows: Tuesday 4:30-5:30 pm OR Wednesday 6-7 pm You will not be able to register for next years program until you have completed your MY FAITH DELIVERED online course for this current school year. Please contact the office with any questions or concerns.
FIRST COMMUNION UPDATE!!! First Communion will be held in the Fall of 2021 for this years 2nd graders as well as any family that chose to defer their child from last year. The dates are still TBA. However, we will be having the lottery on 1 May 2021 following our May Day Intergenerational event.

2021-2022 Religious Education Families must be registered active parishioners whose children have been in the Religious Education program for at least one year (with the possible exception of first grader families). This includes the New Parishioner Orientation meeting. Copies of each student’s Baptismal certificate and record of previously completed Religious Education classes (if applicable) and sacraments must be received by the office when registering in our program for the first time. Please be aware that children entering grades 2-8 in Sept 2021 must have completed and passed their previous Religious Education grade work before they can be registered for the next school year. Additionally registration/class enrollment will not be processed until all paperwork is in the office. Returning Students who do not have a copy of their Baptismal Certificate on file in the office WILL NOT be secured in a class for the 2021 - 2022 term.
Summer Intensive - Grades 1 - 6: Classes run Monday through Friday for 2 weeks from 8:30 am -12:30 pm (on Campus) or 9 am - 12 noon (Google Classroom). Admission is on a first come first serve basis. Classes close as they fill. We encourage you to register early. The process to create a MOC portal login and receive a temporary password can take a few days. Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The key to getting from our human condition (see the first reading) to being healed (gospel) is to “translate” (see Second Sunday in Ordinary Time) our sight from ourselves to Jesus. One view of paschal mystery living, then, is for each of us to go “off to a deserted place” to be with our God. It is in prayer, communion with God, that we come face to face with Jesus, get to know him and his mission, an allow it to seize us so that our own living is characterized by preaching the gospel. Like those in the gospel who come to Jesus for healing, we all come to Jesus with expectations (after all, prayers of petition are the most common). The challenge is to move beyond our expectations to what Jesus really wants to give us—the good news of salvation. We need to allow Jesus’ presence to transform us so that our every breath is a proclamation of God’s saving mystery. Most of us won’t go out to neighboring towns to preach. But we can smile a simple thank you to the tired cashier in the supermarket. We can bite our tongue rather than snap at the rambunctious children. We can do something thoughtful for someone when it is not expected. Like Jesus, we can be a living gospel. My Own Church is a web based way for each parishioner household to manage their own diocesan database information, such as telephone numbers, emails, address, names of those in the household, ministries, etc…. I have been inviting all parishioners to launch
this initiative for their families. Religious Education families must launch this in order to register/re-register for RE programs. I am grateful to all for your cooperation as we strive to serve you better and become more efficient in managing information. Next weekend the church observes World Marriage Sunday. It is a way for us to pray for all married couples and those preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage. Marriage and Family Life is the cornerstone of the church. Family Life has been designated by those at Second Vatican Council as the Domestic Church of the Home. This is where our faith is lived and taught. Let us encourage one another. We continue to welcome new parishioners to our parish. As ambassadors for Christ join me in welcoming and encouraging these new members. Ash Wednesday is 17 February. The protocols will be different this year. I ask your patience and cooperation as we continue these ritual traditions of our church while at the same time remaining faithful to the guidelines for safety during the pandemic. Begin to reflect on what you might “give up” for Lent and what you might “take on” for Lent. Take the time to prepare so that the Lenten Journey can be a fruitful time that is harvested during the Easter Season. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. St. Mary’s would like to announce the continuing ministry entitled, “Surviving Divorce: Hope and Healing for the Catholic Family”, a healing program for divorced and separated Catholics. We will be hosting an Information Night on Monday, February 15th, 2021 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Chapel Basement of St. Mary’s Parish located at 26 Leonardville Road, New Monmouth. 2021 World Marriage Day (February 14) and National Marriage Week (February 7 – 14)!
Diocesan-Wide Virtual Cana Rosary for Marriage (February 7 - February 13, 2021; 7 pm) To commemorate World Marriage Day (Sunday, February 14) and National Marriage Week (February 7 – 14), the Diocese of Trenton will host a special livestreamed event for all Catholic families – The Cana Rosary for Marriage - from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm each evening, Sunday, February 7 through Saturday, February 14, 2021. This recitation of the rosary and reflection on marriage will be led by a different couple each evening; it will help all couples rely on our Most Holy Mother Mary to assist with their greatest needs and bring them closer to the Lord.
