Macirowski Pastoral Coordinator for Worship & Music / Principal Organist Worship@stmaryscoltsneck.org Music@stmaryscoltsneck.org The Feast of the Chair of St. Peter the Apostle On February 22, we observe the Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, reaffirming the doctrine that “Christ the Lord… made Peter and his successors His vicars, to exercise forever in the Church the power which He exercised during His mortal life.” The doctrine of apostolic succession is based on the words of Jesus to Peter in the book of Matthew: “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 16:18) In following the tradition of apostolic succession, the Church seeks to foster unity amongst its members upon the foundation of primatial authority beginning with Saint Peter. Pope Leo XIII related in his Encyclical Satis Cognitum: “It is by the will of God the Church rests upon St. Peter, just as a building rests on its foundation. Now the proper nature of a foundation is to be a principle of cohesion for the various parts of the building. It must be the necessary condition of stability and strength. Remove it and the whole building falls. It is consequently the office of St. Peter to support the Church, and to guard it in all its strength and indestructible unity.” On this day, we remember previous Popes who have helped shape the Church in profound ways, and also pray for the current Pope, that he may continue to lead and guide the faithful in building the Kingdom of God.

Saint of the Week: Vincent de Paul, Priest, c. 1580-1660 Vincent was born at Pouy, France, in 1581, the third of six children. His parents, who were poor farmers, recognized his potential and were determined to give him a good education. He was educated at the college at Dax and at the University of Toulouse and was then ordained at the early age of twenty. While not a lot is known of this period in his life, we do know that in 1605, while on a trip to Marseilles, Vincent was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in North Africa. Following his escape from Tunisia in 1607, he became chaplain to the Queen of France and tutor to the children of the Count de Joigny. At this point in his life, by his own telling, Vincent’s ambition was little more than to have a comfortable life. Read more HERE.

Martha Mary Guild News Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary
Did you know …. The causes of falls in the elderly include such things as muscle weakness, poor balance and vision, lack of confidence at moving about, and the effect of medication, walking on uneven ground, over-reaching, or over stepping. Tai Chi is a low impact, weight bearing exercise; and with regular Tai Chi practice, it helps build internal strength, reduce falls, and improve the quality of life. Barbara Schaflin, certified instructor of Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention; Diabetes; Memory; and Rehabilitation/Rejuvenation, has taught 103 participants this past year in the various disciplines. Imagine being abandoned simply because you’re old— er. That’s what happened to Rex, a 14-year-old Pekingese from New York City, whose owners abandoned him on the streets one day after deeming him too much of a burden. Fortunately for Rex, a concerned pet lover, animal rescuer and Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary all came to his rescue. “So many dogs like Rex are simply cast away when they reach their senior years,” said Doreen Jakubcak, founder and executive director of Marty’s Place. “We were happy to take Rex in and give him a second chance at life”. At Marty’s Place, located in Upper Freehold Township, NJ, senior dogs, 7 years of age or older, receive physical comfort, emotional care and enrichment in a safe, loving and protected environment. Each dog has ample living space, human and canine companionship, consistent medical and dental care, and access to physically and mentally stimulating activities suited to their age and abilities. Senior dogs come to Marty’s Place for various reasons, including: Relocation or displacement; medical issues or transition to a long-term care facility; financial challenges; estate planning provisions. The Vision of Marty’s Place is to enhance the lives of senior dogs by committing to a forever home in our sanctuary. Even though up in age, they still like sitting by a lake, greeting those they meet, and engaging with any dog that would come their way. On Wednesday 9 March 2022, Doreen Jakubeck, founder and executive director of Marty’s Place will be our vibrant guest speaker who will share this remarkable story. Every month, the Guild collects items for various organizations. This month the following items will be collected for Marty’s Place: Swiffer wet jet pads and solution refill bottles, extra-large or giant size training pads. They already have a good supply of toys/treats/blankets. Please note that the rosary is prayed in the “former chapel’ at 11:30 a.m. This is a lovely tradition that the Guild established several years ago and we look forward to many participants. BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) is at noon, and the program will begin around 12:30.

7th grade Mini-retreat Dates and times have been set for the mandatory parent/student mini-retreat The Liturgy of The Word Dismissal is the practice of having the children, ages 4-12, leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word and gather in a separate environment to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding.
Every Sunday at 10am mass We are still in need of a few more parent/ parishioner volunteers to help facilitate. Please contact the Religious Education office if interested.
Thank you to all who dropped off Valentine’s Day Cards for our local soldiers! Over 3,500 Valentines were collected and given to the men and women of service. They were extremely appreciative for all the words of kindness received.
7th grade: February 27, 2022 One parent must attend with student. The retreat is for both the online Google classes and the live on campus group. The retreat will replace the regularly scheduled class times for that week (no class for 7th grade on 2/27, 2/28). The retreat will begin with 12:00 Mass and ending at approximately 3:00pm.

Lenten Regulations Guidelines of the Universal Church The Catholic Church in the United States requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following: The days of fast (only one full meal per day) and abstinence (no meat) are Ash Wednesday (March 2) and Good Friday (April 15). All other Fridays of Lent (March 4 through April 8) are days of abstinence (no meat). Fast—consume only one full meal. Water may be taken throughout the day Abstinence– consume no meat; this obligation prohibits the eating of meat but not eggs, milk products or condiments of any kind, even though made from animal fat.
Baptized Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast and those from the age of 14 are also obliged to abstain. Those who are automatically dispensed from fast and abstinence regulations outside the age limits noted above include: the physically or mentally ill, especially individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also included n the dispensation are women who are pregnant or nursing. In all cases, common sense should prevail and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting All are encouraged to embrace these practices as part of our spiritual journey.

Sharing of resources and extra clergy have been mutually beneficial. Fr. Pat and I will trade celebrating weekday mass one time per month and two weekend masses once every three months. This is another way in which we put feet on the vision of Faith in Our Future for our Cohort 13. CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY – FAIR HAVEN DIVORCED AND SEPARATED MINISTRY Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven is pleased to announce its continuing ministry for separated and divorced Catholics entitled, “Surviving Divorce: Hope and Healing for the Catholic Family”, a healing program being offered beginning on March 9, 2022 and continuing for twelve weeks on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, ending on May 25, 2022. The meetings will be held at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven in the Library on the 2nd Floor of the Parish Office (entrance behind the Church building).
