One reason is that they see a need and feel that they can contribute to fill that need in their parish. Another is that they have a desire to give back to the worship community and decide to serve in that way. Yet another is the feeling that sitting in the pew is not enough and again there is that desire to be more involved. Whatever the reason may be, your community has a need for volunteer ministry members. Here in our parish, the following ministries are in particular need of new members.: Altar Servers - Children who have made their First Holy Communion may serve at the altar of our Lord during weekend Mass and Holy Days. Art/Environment - Assist in the decorating of the campus for Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions, and maintain fixtures, flowers, etc. throughout the year. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion - Assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass and/or bring the Eucharist to the sick and homebound. Hospitality - Coordinate events outside of the Sacred Liturgy Music Ministry - The Magnificat Choir, Youth Choir and Handbell Choir are always in need of new members to sing (or ring) praise to the Lord and aid the congregation in divine worship. Children’s Liturgy of the Word - Lead our children in understanding the weekly scriptural message. There is no such thing as too many members in a given ministry. The ones outlined above serve frequently and as such require strength in numbers in order to effectively serve our parish community. Valentine, Martyr, d.c. 269 There is some confusion about the life of Valentine. There may have been two Valentines, one a priest and physician in Rome, the second the bishop of Interamna, a town about sixty miles from Rome. Many scholars believe that these were one and the same person. Valentine, the priest, cared for Christians who were being persecuted under Claudius II. Arrested for this, he was sent by the emperor to the prefect of Rome who tried to persuade Valentine to renounce his faith. The prefect failed in his efforts, and he ordered Valentine to be beheaded. The execution took place on February 14, 269. He was buried on the Flaminian Way in Rome where a church was erected in his honor and a gate, the Porta Valentini (now known as the Porta del Popolo) was named for him. Read more HERE.

Lenten Regulations Guidelines of the Universal Church The Catholic Church in the United States requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following:

The causes of falls in the elderly include such things as muscle weakness, poor balance and vision, lack of confidence at moving about, and the effect of medication, walking on uneven ground, over-reaching, or over stepping. Tai Chi is a low impact, weight bearing exercise; and with regular Tai Chi practice, it helps build internal strength, reduce falls, and improve the quality of life. Barbara Schaflin, certified instructor of Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention; Diabetes; Memory; and Rehabilitation/Rejuvenation, has taught 103 participants this past year in the various disciplines. Interested in assisting with our RCIA program? Do you want to help by being an Ambassador for Christ? The RCIA process involves not just the newcomer/inquirer but all members of the Faith community whose prayers and example help the newcomer find their place in the Church. Jesus knew that everyone has different gifts and those gifts are used best when they are shared with others. Typical tasks and responsibilities: Listening and preparing adults in a process to be received into the Catholic faith and parish community. Required training or skills: 1.5 hr. training session, weekly. Approximate time commitment: This is dependent on those who are seeking initiation or welcome into the Catholic community.

The days of fast (only one full meal per day) and abstinence (no meat) are Ash Wednesday (March 2) and Good Friday (April 15). All other Fridays of Lent (March 4 through April 8) are days of abstinence (no meat). Fast—consume only one full meal. Water may be taken throughout the day Abstinence– consume no meat; this obligation prohibits the eating of meat but not eggs, milk products or condiments of any kind, even though made from animal fat.
Baptized Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast and those from the age of 14 are also obliged to abstain. Those who are automatically dispensed from fast and abstinence regulations outside the age limits noted above include: the physically or mentally ill, especially individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also included n the dispensation are women who are pregnant or nursing. In all cases, common sense should prevail and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting All are encouraged to embrace these practices as part of our spiritual journey.

Religious Education Registration & Re-Registration
The early discounted price continues through February. Registration closes 31 March. The on campus/in person Summer RE is nearing the limit of maximum students. It is first come first serve and classes will be closed when numbers are met.
7th grade Mini-retreat Dates and times have been set for the mandatory parent/student mini-retreat The Liturgy of The Word Dismissal is the practice of having the children, ages 4-12, leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word and gather in a separate environment to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding.
Every Sunday at 10am mass We are still in need of a few more parent/ parishioner volunteers to help facilitate. Please contact the Religious Education office if interested.
7th grade: February 27, 2022 One parent must attend with student. The retreat is for both the online Google classes and the live on campus group. The retreat will replace the regularly scheduled class times for that week (no class for 7th grade on 2/27, 2/28). Both retreats will begin with 12:00 Mass and ending at approximately 3:00pm.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixth Sunday on Ordinary Time. The Community of Saint Luke understood that being poor (that is, weeping, hungry) didn’t exclude on from God’s blessing. Today, the radicalness of this gospel involves the question whether our lives are oriented to God. Luke’s audience was concerned with what they thought were the signs of God’s blessings. Jesus challenges them and us to be rooted in the source of blessing: God who blesses all those who trust. Trusting in God is not some naïve platitude. Nor is trusting in God something we pay lip service to and then go about our daily routine. The reversals in this gospel are startling reminders that what is of this life is neither lasting nor what we ought to be concerned about. Trusting in God is a stance that shapes all aspects of our being and of our participation in our family, workplace and community. God is the center of our life; as such, God blesses us and in turn we can be a blessing to others.
Our Parish Religious Education ReRegistration/Registration for the Summer Intensive Programs continues to progress nicely. Thanks to all those who have already begun the process. Please do not procrastinate. This program is becoming very popular with our families. I am confident that we will max out our enrollment. Additionally, it is important for us to know exactly how many participants we will have in both the summer and fall programs since our catechists are contracted fully decertified educators, certified catechists, with full background checks in compliance with state and diocesan guidelines. Thanks for being pro-active. This coming week we should be receiving information about the 2022 Annual Catholic Appeal. I am so very grateful to all those who have participated in the 2021 ACA. Our parish reached the goal! I encourage everyone to participate as you are able this year. It is important that we support His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton as he oversees and serves those living in Monmouth, Ocean, Mercer or Burlington Counties.
This week we observe Valentines Day. It is an opportunity for us to reflect on married love as a cornerstone of the church and society. The love of a husband and wife is rooted in the selfless love that Christ has for the Church. Let Have a great week. Let us remember us pray for all those couples who are one another in prayer.
