Please pray for our Military & First Responders
Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

The Beatitudes a way of life a map to happiness.
Question for Children:
Choose one of the Beatitudes and share how you will make it part of your life.
Question for Youth:
Jesus gives us a plan for our happiness in the beatitudes. Do the things that make you happiest also lead you towards God? Do they follow God’s plan?
Question for Adults:
How do you describe what it means to be “blest” in your own life?

Blaise, Bishop and Martyr, c. early 4th Century
Bishop Blaise (sometimes spelled Blase) was martyred around 316 by order of Governor Agricolaus in Sebastea, Armenia, during Licinius' persecution of Christians. That is the only certain knowledge that we have about this saint.
According to legend, Blaise was born in Armenia to wealthy Christian parents and was made a bishop in his youth. He was known as a good bishop who encouraged the spiritual and physical health of his people. When the persecution of Christians began in Armenia, Blaise was forced to flee. He went to live as a hermit in the back country, where he cured wild animals that were sick or wounded.

One day, while seeking animals for the amphitheater, a group of hunters, came across Blaise kneeling in prayer in a cave surrounded by patiently waiting wolves, lions, and bears. Recognizing him as a Christian, the hunters hauled Blaise off to prison. On the way there, a mother came to him with her young son who was choking to death on a fish bone caught in his throat. Blaise cured the boy; thus, he later became the patron and protector of throats. Read more...

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord & Memorial of Saint Blaise
February 2nd, also known as Candlemas Day, has been celebrated since the 4th century. This feast commemorates the 40th day after Christmas, when Mary travelled with Jesus and Joseph to the temple in Jerusalem, for her ritual purification after the birth of the Lord. It was in the temple that the prophetess Anna and Simeon the Righteous recognized the child as the Messiah. Simeon, who had been told by the Holy Spirit that he shall not see death until he sees the Christ, praises God in the Nunc Dimittis: “Now let your servant go in peace…I have seen your salvation….a light to the Gentiles and the glory of your people Israel”.
In honoring the revelation of Jesus as the light of the world, it is customary for candles to be blessed on this day. In some cultures, the faithful bring candles from their homes to blessed, but more commonly it is candles that will be used in the life of the church in the coming year that are blessed. In our community, we bless the candles that are used for the blessing of throats on the memorial of Saint Blaise (February 3) and the six candles that will flank the altar beginning at Easter. At the conclusion of the Easter Season, these candles are kept separate from others, used as processional candles, and eventually burned in the holy fire at the Easter Vigil the following year. We also invite the faithful to bring candles for home use to be blessed.
Traditionally, Candlemas marked the end of the Christmas Season, and decorations where often left up until the Eve of Candlemas. In our parish, we keep that custom in a way, continuing the care of the poinsettias that have been placed in the church until this day.
If you have devotional candles from home that you wish to have blest, please bring them to the 9am Mass in the chapel on February 2nd. Blessing of the throats will occur following the Mass on February 3rd, 9am in the chapel.

The Catholic Church in the United States requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following: The days of fast (only one full meal per day) and abstinence (no meat) are: Ash Wednesday (February 18) and Good Friday (April 3).
All other Fridays of Lent (February 20 through March 27) are days of abstinence (no meat).
Fast consume only one full meal. Water may be taken throughout the day
Abstinence– consume no meat; this obligation prohibits the eating of meat but not eggs, milk products or condiments of any kind, even though made from animal fat.
Baptized Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast and those from the age of 14 are also obliged to abstain Those who are automatically dispensed from fast and abstinence regulations outside the age limits noted above include: the physically or mentally ill, especially individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also included in the dispensation are women who are pregnant or nursing. In all cases, common sense should prevail and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting
All are encouraged to embrace these practices as part of our spiritual journey.

The Parish of St. Mary will be running a diaper drive for those in need! Please drop off your donations in the Narthex between February 18 and February 21 in the Narthex.
All donations welcome, but note the greatest need is for diapers size 4-6, size 4/5T pull ups and wipes!
What is diaper insecurity?

•Diapers cost approximately $90 per month for one infant. Every child in Monmouth County deserves to be clean, dry, and healthy!

1 Hour = 3 packs of diapers 1/2 Hour = 3 packs of wipes MAX: 2.5 hours total Donations accepted ONLY at Ash Wednesday prayer services at 4 PM or 5 PM

Let’s tackle hunger this Super Bowl!
Kick off the Super Bowl by stocking the shelves of local food pantries.
Drop your canned goods in the box of your “team” in the Narthex February 7 and 8.

Jesus calls us to be earth and the light of the world reminding us that our faith is meant to be lived through loving action. Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless; clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own.

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. It is awesome to think that our own puny efforts at mercy, justice, and righteous living are one means for bringing God’s blessedness to others! Simply sharing in God’s work of salvation providing for those in need is a blessing in itself. We can afford to jump in and get our feet wet because we are not only dependent upon our own resources but share with others what God has already provided for us. Here’s the truly amazing part: the blessedness we share now is but a taste of our great reward in heaven!
This week, we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas Day). It is customary that we bless candles as a reminder that Christ is the Light of the World. The following day is the optional memorial of Saint Blasé, bishop and martyr. Throats will be blessed during the regularly scheduled masses. “Through the intercession of Saint Blasé, bishop and martyr, may Almighty God deliver you from every disease of the throat and every other illness, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” During the month of February we also celebrate Valentine’s Day and we observe World Marriage Sunday. Let us pray for all married couples and for those who are preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony throughout the world and especially here in our parish.
Early Registration for our Summer Intensive Religious Education Program begins in February. This program has become very popular with the students and parents alike.
There is limited enrollment space in each session. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. The website will be up as indicated in the bulletin. Please follow all of the prompts in order to complete the registration process. A confirmation letter will be forwarded for your records. Thank you for you diligence in providing for the needs of your family in a timely manner. Remember, we have limited space for each session…DO NOT PROCRASTINATE...REGISTER THIS WEEK.
The 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal will kick off during the month of February. This initiative enables our Diocesan Bishop of Trenton to maintain critical ministries and services. I am grateful to all of those who participated last year. We have included a list acknowledging those families who have make sacrificial gifts to this important annual appeal. I encourage you to participate this year. Remember, I would never ask you to participate in something I would not participate…I willmakemy personal gift as I ask you to do the same.
I am grateful to our parish team for overseeing the day to to pastoral service offered to our parishioners and those who seek guidance. Thanks to all for the careful and deliberate oversight exhibited during last weekend’s snowstorm and clean up. I will be back onsite in time for this coming weekend after a period of holiday and rest. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff.
