St. John Vianney: Patron of Parish Priests
On August 4, the Church celebrates the memorial of St. John Vianney (1786–1859), the humble Curé of Ars and patron saint of parish priests. Born in France during the turmoil of the French Revolution, John struggled with his studies and faced many obstacles on his path to the priesthood. Yet his deep faith, perseverance, and love for God carried him forward. As pastor of the small village of Ars, he transformed the parish through his tireless preaching, personal holiness, and countless hours spent hearing Confessions.
St. John Vianney became known for his extraordinary compassion and his desire to lead people back to Christ. Pilgrims traveled from across France to seek his counsel and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, often waiting hours for the opportunity to confess their sins. He reminded people that God's mercy is always greater than our failures and that conversion begins with a sincere encounter with the Lord. Today, St. John Vianney remains a powerful example for both priests and the faithful. His life reminds us that holiness is found not in extraordinary talents but in faithful service, prayer, and trust in God. As we observe his memorial this week, let us pray for all priests, that they may serve with the same humility and zeal, and ask St. John Vianney to help each of us grow in our love for Christ and His Church.

We had a beautiful Intergenerational this past weekend Grandparents and Grandchildren celebrated mass together and then came into Madonna Hall for a special “World Day for Grandparents” breakfast and special presentations. Look for pictures in next week’s bulletin!
Many thanks to all for a great July RE virtual session. We are blessed to have amazing, certified teachers who are also certified in catechesis. We can’t thank are catechists enough and wanted to also thank the handful of parents who assisted in the virtual classrooms. The student volunteers, who are in Confirmation prep, were a great help as well. We couldn’t have the program we have without all of your dedication!

Did you know without Confirmation you will not meet the requirements to be a Godparent or a Sponsor?
According to the Code of Canon Law 874, there are a few requirements for becoming a sponsor. You must:
•Be at least 16 years old and mature enough to understand and embrace the responsibilities of being a godparent.
•Have received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation within the Catholic Church.
•If married, your marriage must be recognized as valid by the Catholic Church. Civil marriages must be convalidated.
•If divorced, you may not be remarried outside of the Catholic Church.
•Be living in accordance with the faith and morals taught by the Catholic Church and registered at a parish for at least six months.

High School & College Students

Quo vadis...
My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Jesus’ “heart was moved with pity” for the crowd and his response to the crowd’s needs was an in-breaking of God’s kingdom, embodied by the very person and presence of Jesus whom the crowd sought. If weare the presence of the risen Christ today, then we too are an inbreaking of God’s kingdom when we reach out in compassion to satisfy the needs of others. One challenge, then, of our everyday living of the paschal mystery is to see in the self-sacrificing dying we embrace for the sake of others an inbreaking of God’s presence and kingdom. In other words, our own compassion is more than simply satisfying another’s need (as important even as that is in itself); like Jesus, our compassion carries with it the foretaste of eternal life. This places our everyday self-sacrificing in a whole different context and so we are better able to see how our dying to self leads to rising and eternal life. This is an awesome message the gospel offers: we, too, can be an icon to help others see and seek eternal life.
As we begin the month of August many begin to focus on back to school issues, pre-season training for the fall sports teams and the final stretch of summer at the shore. We are preparing for a second module of religious education students on campus participating in the summer intensive program. Thank you for continuing to form your family in our Catholic Faith.
Please note that the buildings will be secured when the children are present in conformity with the Safe Environment Norms for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. Pray for our young people, their parents, catechists and teachers. They areour future!
I will be meeting with members of our Parish Finance Council this coming week for the regular quarterly meeting on Tuesday. This meeting will review our financial report for the previous fiscal year and review our proposed budget for the current fiscal year. I am grateful to these parishioners for their careful review and sage counsel regarding our financial condition. We are sustained through the generosity, prayer and sacrifices of our parishioners and friends. Our Annual Parish Stewardship report will be made availableduringthe monthof October. Many of our parishioners, past and present, are utilizing the on-line mass intention option to offer requests. Thankyoufor beingopenandflexible to this adjustment.
