SAINT OF THE WEEK -Rose of Lima, Virgin, 1586-1617 Isabel de Santa Maria de Flores was the daughter of wealthy Spanish parents. Because of her beauty, she was called Rose by her parents and took this name at her Confirmation. Rose took Saint Catherine of Siena as a model when she became an adult and practiced great austerities, even beyond what most ascetic saints carried out. For example, when her parents wished her to marry and a caller admired her beauty, she rubbed pepper on her face to disfigure it. Another time, when her fair skin was complimented, she applied lime to it, burning herself so severely that she was unable to dress herself for a month. READ MORE HERE

WORSHIP & MUSIC The Passion of St. John the Baptist
On August 29, the Church celebrates the Memorial of the Passion of St. John the Baptist, also known as the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. John was the one who prepared the way for Jesus, calling people to turn back to God and announcing that the Messiah was coming. John didn’t exactly shy away from speaking his mind—even when the truth was difficult to hear. His courage and faithfulness ultimately cost him his life. John was imprisoned by Herod Antipas because he openly criticized Herod’s unlawful marriage to Herodias. During a banquet, Herodias’s daughter, Salome, danced for Herod, and he rashly promised to give her whatever she asked for. At her mother’s urging, she asked for John’s head on a platter. Herod was troubled, but rather than admit his mistake, he kept his promise and had John executed. It is a sobering reminder of what can happen when pride, pressure, and poor decisions get the better of us. John’s story challenges us to be courageous in our own faith. We may never face a situation quite as dramatic as his, but we all have opportunities to stand up for what is right and to live our faith openly. Like John, we are called to point others toward Christ—not necessarily by making a lot of noise, but by the way we live. May St. John the Baptist pray for us and help us have the courage to speak the truth, live faithfully, and prepare the way for Christ in our own time.

Fall RE begins with the Blessing Mass on Sunday, 20 September at 12pm, followed by a short orientation in the church. Confirmation Prep kicks off on Saturday, 12 September at 4pm mass, followed by orientation for the parents and Session #1 for all virtual and on campus learners. This is an opportunity for all to meet their catechists in person. The Confirmation retreat is also approaching on Saturday, 19 September at 4pm mass, following in Madonna Hall for pizza and the retreat. This is for all of those making the Sacrament of Confirmation this October. All Confirmandi must attend with their sponsor or a parent. Quo vadis... My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. Authentic discipleship doesn’t require us to hunt for suffering. Being faithful to Jesus will bring enough as it is. For many of us the bigger challenge of discipleship is to keep in focus that our self-offering always brings new life. Like Jesus, embracing discipleship means that we, too, are destined for glory. All who wish to be faithful to this call to discipleship must be prepared to suffer—and also prepared to receive new life. Next weekend we give thanks for the blessings of human labor. As a society we reflect on what it means to be co-creators with God in building up a more just and fruitful society. Many of us are the beneficiaries of those who have gone before us and labored hard to build the infrastructure of our nation. Some even gave their lives for this progress. Each of us, too, is called to share our time and talent in the work that we choose or are given to accomplish. Cultivating a sense of perseverance and pride in our work is sometimes sorely lacking. Customer service seems to be less and less. Personal pride in one’s trade likewise seems to be on the decline. No matter what our place in society or what our role in business is, each of us has something to contribute. Let us never forget those who have gone before us in building this great nation, let us never forget our role in continuing to share the blessings of human labor to continue building our nation while offering a living witness to our children and young people. This weekend we will observe an “abbreviated mass schedule”: Saturday 4:00pm; Sunday 10:00am. Please note this in your personal schedules. Mass will be celebrated Monday, 7 September 2026 at 9 A.M. in the chapel. This is a great way to begin this civic holiday.
As we enjoy this weekend, many of our children and young people have or will soon return to school. Let us remember all students in our prayer. Let us also pray for all teachers as they impart knowledge and challenge young people to strive for the very best in their lives. We have concluded re-registration for our Religious Education & Sacramental Preparation opportunities for our parish children and young people earlier in the year. No further re-registrations will be accepted. Materials, class assignments, catechists, allocation of space, licensing for online materials will be finalized at this time in preparation for a timely beginning. Preparation for the Inter-generational activities have begun. This is an integral part of growing in faith as a family. The Martha Mary Clothing Sale is underway. The ladies have been very busy receiving donated items, sorting them, folding them in preparation for the sale. Have you looked through your closets for those clothes that are now too big? Consider donating some items to this great cause. We continue to make progress with this phase of the church tile replacement project. Great detail and consultation has gone into the design of the sanctuary. Concrete footings have been poured for a stone altar, ambo and presider chair to be installed within a year or so. The ramp for persons with mobility needs has been relocated based on feedback I have received throughout my 13 years as pastor here. I ask that you be mindful that we have three more
