Second Sunday of Easter (or Sunday of Divine Mercy) Once I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. -- Revelation 1:18a
Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, the Octave Day of Easter. It is originally based on the Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy that Saint Faustina Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament reported as part of her encounter with Jesus, and is associated with special promises from Jesus and indulgences issued by the Church. The devotion was actively promoted by Pope Saint John Paul II. In the year 2000, Sister Faustina was canonized and the Sunday after Easter was declared by His Holiness as Divine Mercy Sunday. In the years since, the devotion has grown, with many Catholics reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet as part of their prayers, especially during adoration or in preparation for or after the sacrament of penance and reconciliation. A growing number of churches hold special services on this day. Votive Masses, penance and reconciliation services, Eucharistic adoration, concerts, liturgy of the hours with the people, etc. A Plenary Indulgence may also be obtained by:
Going to confession, attending Mass and partaking in Holy Communion, and praying for the intentions of the Holy Father
While : In any church or chapel that takes part in the prayers and devotions in honor of the Divine Mercy, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, with devout prayers extolling the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Outline of Process for completing RE Registration Obtain a My Own Church (MOC) Login. All families seeking Religious Education must be registered parishioners and have a My Own Church (MOC) portal login, The process to create a MOC portal login and receive a temporary password can take a few days. This interface is not mobile device friendly and has been known to have emails blocked by several of the email providers. Request student(s) session & class through the MOC portal Once request is received by RE office, it will be verified and processed, then, an invoice will be created for payment, and be emailed back to family. This email/Invoice will include a web link to make payments through the Online Giving interface. Submit payment through the Online Giving link provided in invoice email. Please note, a student’s placement is not regarded as certain until payment is made. A final verification will be sent to confirm placement and that the process is complete.

Catholic Childcare Center is open at The Parish of Saint Mary We serve children from 2 - 13. Once children are school age we do before and after care as well as summer camp. Men’s Morning Office (MMO) meets every Thursday morning at 6:30 am in the Christ Chapel. “Liturgy of the Hours”- meditation and prayer is led each week by one of the men, followed by communion. The service lasts about 30 minutes after which, for those that can stay, we enjoy the camaraderie of one another over coffee & donuts. The invitation is OPEN for all men in the Parish to join. PLEASE come join us. We’d love to see you!

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Second Sunday of Easter. Traditionally this Sunday was known as “Low Sunday” thus ending the Easter Octave (8 Days). More recently under the pontificate of the late Pope John Paul II this Sunday has become known as “Divine Mercy Sunday” honoring the polish nun, Maria Faustina, who was recently honored with formal canonization and the title of “Saint” in the universal church. Most of us won’t cure anyone when our shadow falls upon them. But this doesn’t mean that we don’t continue the works of Jesus that lead others to believing. Any good we do for others is overshadowing them with the goodness of Jesus. Any good we do brings this same new, resurrected life to others. We are empowered to do so through the Holy Spirit. All we need do is surrender to God’s action within us. We have these fifty days of Easter to come to greater belief. We have our whole lifetime to manifest the good works of our belief. We continue to enjoy the radiant splendor of the Easter Celebration. What an awesome experience it has been for us. The Triduum continues to grow in attendance and the participation of so many added to the prayer and worship. Some have given freely of their time and talent so that we could not merely observe the Triduum, but truly celebrate these rites in all their fullness. It is important that we increase those who help to prepare and celebrate these sacred rites. Remembering the liturgy is our response to God’s presence, we continue to learn and improve how and what we do during these most holy days. The Easter Season is a time when the Church celebrates the Sacraments of Initiation:
Baptism, Confirmation, & Eucharist. We will celebrate First Communion in May and Confirmation in the Fall. Continue to pray for our community that God will guide us and strengthen us as we welcome new families and help them in forming their children in the faith of Jesus Christ. A special word of thanks to our parish staff and those volunteers who work regularly with them for providing us with a wonderfully enriching Lenten Season, Holy Week, Triduum, and Easter Sunday. Many thanks for the homemade goodies that were shared with us at the parish house for Easter. I appreciate the positive comments about how we are celebrating Easter. Welcome to all of those families participating in our Annual Easter Egg Hunt this weekend. Thanks to all those who work to promote and provide this opportunity for our parish families. Many thanks to all who have participated in the Holy Thursday Annual Collection for the Poor & Needy. These funds provide resources for our parish community to respond to many requests for assistance. Additional funds come from the weekly Sunday Stewardship Offerings something that the parish financial council has worked very hard to include in our annual budget. Also, the 2019 Easter Collection results will be published for your review in a few weeks. Thank you to all those parish families who have participated. Those who have not yet participated should do so in the coming weeks. Thank you for your continued sacrificial sharing. Next weekend we will welcome parishioner families who are presenting their child for their First Holy Communion. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. ‘Soul Kitchen’ and ‘Empty Bowls’ On May 8, 2019, the Martha Mary Guild will have a two part, but integrated program presentation which will conclude our 2018-2019 season. Lauren Brajure will speak about the (JBJ Soul Foundation) SOUL KITCHEN Community Restaurant, located in Red Bank and Toms River, where individuals or families can go to eat a hot, nutritious meal in a warm, welcoming setting and meet their neighbors. The aim of Soul Kitchen is to empower individuals by providing volunteer opportunities to earn dining certificates to feed themselves and their family, and by providing job training in the food industry. Paying customers help effect change by donating enough to cover the cost of the volunteer customers. The customers are treated with dignity and respect, while uniting communities and forming healthy and lasting relationships through food. The second part of the program will feature Mil Wexler Kobrinski, a local artist, who will speak to us on behalf of EMPTY BOWLS, which is a group of teachers, artists and students who have banded together in using art to promote hunger awareness. An empty bowl is a powerful symbol of food insecurity! As a community they create pottery bowls, glaze and sell them for SOUL KITCHEN. Our own Martha Mary Guild members, Ginny La Morte and Pat Yoczis, have been active with EMPTY BOWLS. The money from the sales goes to ‘Pay It Forward’ for a person in need to have a free meal at SOUL KITCHEN. Bowls will be available for sale. At this meeting, we will be collecting bathing suits (ages 5-13) and beach towels for Kateri Summer Camp and we thank you for your consistent generosity. The organizations that our Guild helps are all very grateful! All are invited to attend this wonderful program, which will surely make us eager to visit Soul Kitchen soon! Come at 11:30 to join us in the Spiritual Center Chapel for the rosary. Bring your lunch into Madonna Hall, where Guild members will have delicious desserts ready for you. The presentation will start around noon.
When Martha Mary members are asked for any kind of donation, they always give from the heart! This is a sampling of the towels that were collected for SPUR at the April meeting. Many thanks to all these wonderful people. We collected two car trunks full of towels for the horses from the SPUR Program that was present at our meeting last month.
