It is sung or recited at the conclusion of compline, the last of the canonical hours prayed on a daily basis. It is also used in place of the Angelus prayer during this same liturgical season. In our parish, we sing this following the dismissal at weekday Mass.
The text of the prayer itself dates to the 12th Century. As the musical notation system of Gregorian Chant started to become finalized around the same time period (with the basics of notation being developed around the 10th Century and the 4-line system still used today becoming standard by the early 13th Century), it remains one of the Church’s best examples of a text and melody being composed together and remaining as such, unaltered, into modern times. Other texts, such as the Veni Emmanuel predate this by several centuries, but the history of the tune is murky. Thus, the Regina Caéli holds an important historical, liturgical, and devotional history. S.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization where people from all over the world knit/crochet sacks and then donate them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, social service agencies and relief efforts. Since S.A.C.K. was founded in 2017, over 140,000 soap sacks have been donated globally! The response to these soap sacks are overwhelmingly positive especially since people cannot purchase toiletry items such as soap with government subsidies such as food stamps. The mission of S.A.C.K. is to spread kindness, one sack at a time. Our soap sack donations help to send a message of dignity, hope, love, compassion and health…..emotions that can restore a person, both physically and emotionally. Religious Education Fall 2021-2022 This is for grades 1-6 and is from September 2021 through April 2022. 1st and 2nd graders are on campus and have a choice of: Tuesday 4:30-5:40 pm OR 5:50-7 pm 3rd - 6th graders have weekly virtual LIVE classes through Google Classroom. The two choices are: Tuesday 4:30-5:30 OR Wednesday 6-7 pm Early Registration is $200 and ends May 2nd Regular Registration is $250 and ends on June 1st Registrants after close date ( June 1) will be subject to availability and a late fee of $50/child.

FIRST COMMUNION UPDATE First Communion will be held in October of 2021 for this years 2nd graders as well as any family that chose to defer their child last year. The exact dates are still TBA. However, we will be having the Lottery on 1 May 2021 at 4pm in Madonna Hall. We will have 7th and 8th grade volunteers helping the children with their May Day craft at the back of Madonna Hall while the lottery is going on at the front. Following, please join us for Mass at 5 pm and the May Day crowning of Mary.
Upcoming Intergenerational Events... May Day Celebration-1 May 2021 The craft and lottery will be in Madonna Hall and start promptly at 4 pm. Followed by Mass at 5 pm and the crowning of Mary. Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Third Sunday of Easter. Our belief in the Risen One is not some elite intellectual exercise but an embodied faith expressed in actions. Our faith is seen both in us by our assent to God’s will and in our actions by our witness to repentance and forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness is part of the reality of resurrected life; it is the effect of death and resurrection. We should walk and act like a forgiven people. Repentance-and-forgiveness does not belong simply to Lent—there, that’s over for another year. It is as much a part of the Easter mystery. Forgiveness is the virtue that enables us not to allow past hurts to determine our decisions and actions in the here and now. Forgiveness opens up the space for creating, together with the one forgiven, a new future where we can “fall peacefully asleep”. Forgiveness is a resurrection activity. This is how Jesus is known. As we continue to journey throughout the Easter Season may we be particularly attentive to the proclamation of the Sacred Scriptures. The message is poignant. Jesus continues to be revealed and it is the responsibility of the Apostles and the Disciples to carry on the mission for which Jesus offered his very life. In some small way we are faced with a similar challenge. We must continue the mission of our forebears who built the church in our midst. Through our faithful stewardship of time, talent and treasure we must be bold in the proclamation of our faith not only with words but most especially in our deeds. The faithful and reverent celebration of the liturgy is the primary way in which we re-commit ourselves
week after week. There have been so many favorable comments about the way in which our parish community prays when we celebrate the Eucharist together. From the singing to the hospitality, you are the face of our community. I thank you for the positive attitude that you are cultivating. You are helping us to welcome and sometimes re-welcome members to our parish community as new parishioners. May God continue to bless us with a spirit of outreach to the alienated and the marginalized and to welcome new members to OUR PARISH OF SAINT MARY. This weekend we welcome His Excellency, The Most Reverend David M. O’Connell, Bishop of Trenton to our parish community. His Excellency will celebrate the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass, offer the homily, and following the Mass bless the new statue of Saint Mary, Seat of Wisdom that has been placed in the narthex/ gathering space of the church. Due to covid19 restrictions we will not be able to offer refreshments for this occasion. To all those who have generously supported our Easter Collection 2021, I offer a great big Thanks! To those who have not yet done so, I offer a great big invite to do so as soon as possible. As is our parish custom we will offer a report on this important collection in the weeks ahead. We continue to make progress in our 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal. Thank you to those who have made their gift or pledge.
