By CATHY SHOUSE Feature Writer If this year’s seasons have you feeling like Goldilocks, who found her porridge too hot or too cold, hang in there. Fall weather is nearly here and promises to be “just right.” So why not plan to make the most of the change of seasons and enjoy nature? One attractive option is to explore what Fox Island County Park, located near Aboite, has to offer. Located on 7324 Yohne Road, Fox Island is one of several parks which are run by the Allen County Parks Department. These include: Metea (near Leo), Payton (near Huntertown), Cook’s

Landing (on Coldwater Road), Hanauer Reserve (Easterday Road), and Deer Run Wilderness Area (Timberline Challenge Course). Fire Island has a fresh look of its own, so it’s especially intriguing, too. “The park’s been closed for two years because of storm damage in June of 2022. It took out almost 4,000 trees in the park. We are in the process of restoring those. The National Guard came in for a week and removed what loggers didn’t want and debris,” said Natalie Haley, a naturalist and

the park and education manager for Fox Island. “We reopened the Monday after Father’s Day weekend.” Visit allencountyparks.org/parks/ fox-island for more information. The settings cater to older visitors, and younger ones, too, plus every age in between. Continued on page 5
