VALLEY UNIFIED GAME DAY Text and Photos By LEAH SANDER Staff Writer Tippecanoe Valley School Corp.’s annual Unified Game Day is about “inclusion,” said TVSC Director of Special Services Meagan Wilks. The ninth game day on Thursday, May 7, at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School allowed TVMS and Akron and Mentone Elementary School students with and without special needs to enjoy sports together. The day started with an opening ceremony in the TVMS gym. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shaun Mudd, who serves as one of Valley’s school resource

officers, and Wilks both briefly spoke, followed by the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. After the Special Olympics Oath was recited, Tippecanoe Valley High School cheerleaders led students, staff and family members in Valley’s fight song. TVMS eighth grader Paola Campos served as a torch bearer, with the rest of the middle and elementary students parading around the gym before heading outside. Once there, kids played flag football, shot hoops, ran relay races and more at various stations. They were assisted by high school volunteers. The morning was to close with lunch and an awards ceremony. Continued on page 3
