We need to learn to give.” Across the country, many people struggle to get through the holidays. Some may struggle all year long. While her family isn’t wealthy, they know the value of giving and how important it is

to pay it forward in whatever way you can. It’s a valuable lesson she and her husband, Rodney, have been actively teaching their four grandchildren since last Easter. During the Easter and Christmas holiday seasons, Bryant and her husband, along with their four grandchildren, put together individual gift bags and boxes full of groceries and other items. Once they have everything together, they head to Matthew’s Market located at
100 W. Third St., Rochester. “We’re trying to teach them to give,” Bryant said. “If you’ve got a little bit extra, give it to somebody who needs it. “There has been times when I’ve cleaned out half of my deep freeze for someone who needed food,” Bryant said. She’s noticed people aren’t as willing to help others as they were in the past. She wants to teach her grandkids that helping others should be the norm and not the exception. She enjoys the fact that her
grandkids look forward to helping others. “They want Easter to get here now. They love it,” she said. “They help me sort everything out and put it in the bags. I’ve really got them into helping with Easter and Christmas.” For Easter, the gift bags include toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair accessories, candy and toys. During the Christmas holiday, the bags contain toys, arts and crafts supplies, and books. The Continued on page 3
