Automotive enthusiasm abounds in
Michiana Mustangs By LILLI DWYER Staff Writer The Michiana Mustangs club motto is, “Ownership is not required, but enthusiasm is.” That’s according to President Scott Lickteig, who joined the group four years ago after decades of deep, abiding passion for the iconic car. Michiana Mustangs brings together Ford Mustang enthusiasts from northern Indiana and southern Michigan. Each month, members meet up in Granger to talk shop, discuss Mustang-related news and enjoy each other’s company.
“If you’ve got a Mustang and you’ve got a problem with it, there’s probably somebody in the club that can help you with it - if you’re doing a restoration, or if you want to do some sort of modification. If the club doesn’t know the answer, they’ll send you to somebody who does,” Lickteig said. “There’s a constant exchange of information that I think makes owning the car even that much more rich.” Outside regular meetings, Michiana Mustangs participates in a variety of parades, cruise-ins and other community events, such as the regular
Cars and Coffee events at the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend. The club holds its own all-Mustang car show every summer. Michiana Mustangs also takes field trips to gearhead-centered destinations, such as the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Mich. The variety of cars is “mind boggling,” Lickteig said. “We try to find activities that keep us engaged and having fun,” he went on.
