The announcement coincided with Rochester High School juniors’ American Studies unit on the Great Depression, taught by U.S. History teacher Jesse Atkinson and English Teacher Hope Showley, and featuring texts including “Of Mice and Men,” by John Steinbeck, a 1937 novel about displaced migrant farm workers looking for work in California. “Migrant workers were not living lives with a lot of stability,” said Atkinson.
