COVID being political? Yes, it is. But it was not the Republicans who did so. It is the Democrats and the media spreading the lies and doing so every single day. News flash for you. COVID cannot select who it affects. It cannot pick between Democrat or Repubican states or counties. Being ignorant of the facts is not an insult. It just means one does not know the facts but can learn. But being stupid?

Research it Remember back in the ’80s when the “science” told us not to eat eggs? We trusted that “science” and what have we learned since? Not long after that Dr. Fauci told us people in the same household could casually transmit the AIDS virus. Did you believe him then? Do you believe him now? Time and time again “science” has let us down. Do your own research, ask a lot of questions, use your common sense, stop listening to people who don’t care about you and only want your vote and your $.

Continued from page 2 He also guided two golfers, Cybil Stillson and Amy Thompson, to top-10 finishes at the IHSAA State Finals. In a statement shortly after the ceremony at McCormick Creek, Yoder stated, “I am touched beyond words by the gestures of the city and our program’s stakeholders for the last 14 years. It has been quite a ride and the friendships I have made with so many because of our program will be cherished forever by me, (wife) Whitney, (son) Thayne, and (daughter) Maddie.”

Trump promised to get rid of the deficit but instead he increased it nearly 40% from 19.9 trillion to 27.7 trillion. Trump’s signature legislative achievement, the 2017 tax cuts and jobs act, pushed the national debt up 40%. The tax cuts, which largely benefited the wealthiest Americans and corporations left a significant shortfall in tax revenue. The Congressional Budget Office projected in Januarythe deficit would go up about one trillion annually due to Trump’s tax cut. In other words, Trump and the Republicans didn’t pay for their big tax cuts. The Democrats work very hard to pay for anything they do. The infrastructure bill, which was recently passed, was mostly paid for. The Build Back Better bill has only passed the House so far. It will be paid for by taxes on corporations, the wealthy and increasing money for the IRS to go after tax cheats.

To the “Trust science” writer, don’t be duped that science can be trusted. Read the book, “The Real Anthony Fauci” by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to see what havoc unscrupulous scientists can wreak on mankind. Also go to newsweek.com and read the article written on 4/28/20 by Fred Guterl that exposes how deep Fauci was in creating COVID-19. To your dismay the virus will never be eradicated.

Merry Christmas From

Help the city decorate Mirth Tree Theresa Sailor, educator of the City of Goshen’s Department of Environmental Resilience, credits her husband for the idea of the Mirth Tree. “We need more fun. We need more activities for the community,” she said. In an effort to encourage a reduction of waste and to educate about the importance of reusing and recycling, GDER is inviting residents to help decorate the city’s first Mirth Tree with homemade ornaments Sailor pointed out in most communities the Christmas tree is professionally done. The Mirth Tree encourages the community to participate. Aaron Kingsley, head of Goshen’s Tree Department, wanted to encourage some noncommercial expression. “Things can be homemade and still express the feeling of the season,” he said. The Mirth Tree is also a way to encourage the Goshen community to create and celebrate together. Kingsley said there was a long discussion about the name of the program. Mirth is an old word that harkens back to a simpler time. Sailor noted Mirth brings a deeper kind of feeling, a deeper joy. The tree, located outside the Goshen Utilities Business Office, 203 S. 5th St., is lit up and ready for residents ornaments, which they can create out of whatever materials they have at home. Bring an ornament anytime between now and Dec. 20, and hang it on the tree. Expect to share, as the ornaments placed on the tree are considered donations. Beginning Dec. 27, residents will be able to take one ornament off the tree to keep. You do not have to share in order to take, and vice versa — the holiday spirit is about accepting and giving without expectations. As you work on your ornament,

here are some things to keep in mind: • For community safety, do not use glass for an ornament. • While paper and cardboard are acceptable materials to use, please keep in mind the tree is outside, so some materials may deteriorate faster as they will be exposed to the elements. • Some materials you can use around your home are: • Buttons • Ribbons and fabric • Emptied, clean cans (be sure they don’t have rough edges) • Natural materials, like pinecones, acorns or sticks • The city will post some ideas and examples on our Facebook Group, Zero Waste Goshen.

While this is not a contest, the city encourages residents to take photos of their ornament or of themselves placing their ornament on the tree and submit them for the city to share on social media. Photos can be submitted via Facebook messenger to the City of Goshen, Indiana or via email to communications@goshencity.com. You also can tag the city on your Facebook post. ones.” The holidays are the busiest time for Shutterfly, producing an average 165 million cards, as well as millions of personalized books, calendars and ornaments. That means roughly half of all Americans expect to receive a Shutterfly card this holiday season. The sheer volume of holiday orders gives the company unique insight into top consumer trends and what will be on everyone’s gift and to-do lists this year. The recent Shutterfly Holiday Retail Consumer Survey conducted in partnership with Ipsos uncovered insights into Americans’ holiday shopping plans and behavior in 2021. Holiday Cards In today’s digital age, you might think sending holiday cards is a fading tradition, but in actuality it’s growing. The survey found that 44% of consumers plan to send holiday cards to friends and family, up 10 percentage points from last year. A quarter of consumers plan to send photo cards and 22% plan to send personalized cards. Who is sending these holiday greetings? Younger age groups show more interest in sending photo and personalized cards, with 40% of 18- to 34-year-olds planning to send photo cards or personalized cards. That’s significantly higher than the less than 20% of 55- to 70-year-olds that plan to send personalized photo cards. No matter your age, sending a holiday card sends the message that you care. Whether you prefer lighthearted cards with customized phrases that make people laugh or more traditional greetings with family photos and messages of holiday merriment, sending cards gives people near and far a reason to smile. Personalized Gifts Finding the perfect gift might seem impossible, especially for the person who seems to have it all. Getting something that is unique and reflects the recipient’s personality is easy when you personalize. One-third of Americans plan to buy a personalized or customized gift this holiday season, which shows that making something special for loved ones is a popular choice. Those who are looking for personalized gifts feel that it’s the best way to show family members or friends that they care. Other shoppers believe a personalized present carries more meaning than a typical gift. From books and toys to home goods and ornaments, there are many personalized products available that will leave a mark on the world in a way that only you can. Elevate holiday cooking with quick and easy tweaks (StatePoint) Holiday cooking and entertaining don’t have to be overly complex to impress. Here are quick, simple ways to elevate your meals for memorable experiences your friends and family will love: Balanced Seasoning Are your go-to family recipes in need of an update? Enhance the flavor profile of savory holiday dishes by swapping out salt and pepper and instead, reaching for Livia’s Seasoning Salt, an all-natural, preblended seasoning of kosher salt, coarse-ground black pepper and garlic. “Livia’s is good on just about everything, which is why it’s the notso-secret ingredient in a lot my creations,” says Peter Hoff, executive chef and partner, NOLO’s Kitchen & Bar. You can use Livia’s in a number of ways during meal preparation and table-side to give holiday dishes something extra: • Add flair to appetizers by shaking it into the yolk mixture of deviled eggs or using it to season baked brie. • Season the outside of your turkey with olive oil and a few liberal shakes of Livia’s, or even create your own brine that will become a

treasured recipe of its own. • Season hams and roasts with it. • Add it to stuffing and mashed potatoes. • Update morning egg bake recipes to wow overnight guests. • Include it on your holiday table so that guests can season their food to taste. For more information, visit liviasseasoningsalt.com. Add Pizzazz To Desserts With a few updates, you can give your standard dessert line-up a touch of elegance. Use fresh ginger in your gingerbread cookies. Create your own crumbs for sprinkling on top of cakes. Garnish slices of pie with a mint or basil sprig or a cinnamon stick. Melt your favorite chocolate and drizzle it on anything. Up Your Tablescape Game A holiday feast is the perfect time to create a special atmosphere. And you can do so easily by breaking out your best dishes and utensils, as well as by adding a few natural elements to the tablescape, such as poinsettias, holly, evergreens and pinecones. Ditch the overhead lights and use candles or other warm lighting to create a soft, convivial glow. You don’t need to overhaul your

Top holiday Continued from page 8 consider including things like photography, names, dates and personalized phrases (like that fun inside joke) and any item becomes one of a kind. Shopping trends With supply chain disruption top of mind and worries about thin inventory and missing out on the best gifts, many consumers are shopping for the holidays earlier this year. Gifts are often drivers for holiday shopping, but that’s not the only reason carts are filling up in stores and online. A quarter of consum-

ers plan to purchase new holiday home decor this year. Plus, with convenience and safety in mind, it’s no surprise 58% of consumers said they are more likely to shop online rather than in-person this holiday season, the Shutterfly survey found. “As consumers get ready for a second holiday season during the pandemic, they are looking to create meaning in each gift they give and every activity they plan,” said Hilt. “Holiday cards, personalized gifts and new home decor are three top trends helping to create and share gifts with meaning this year.”

Tips to prep your home for holiday guests (StatePoint) Cooler temperatures, outings to the Christmas tree farm, game nights and holiday feasts. Now that the holiday season is here, it’s time to prep your home for seasonal fun! Whether you’re hosting a big or small group of family and friends this holiday season, decorating and decluttering around the house can make party prep easier and more enjoyable for everyone. With that in mind, here are some top tips to create functional and stylish spaces that are easy to keep clean and tidy throughout the festivities. Delightful décor. Make any room feel warm and welcoming with EasyLiner Removable Adhesive Shelf Liner by Duck Brand. Decorating with laminate is an affordable way to add pops of color to a kitchen backsplash, reading nook or old side table. Choose a print that matches your style and easily stick the laminate to smooth, flat surfaces for a fresh new look that will wow your guests. Mudroom without messy floors. Preparing an area near your entryway for bags and shoes is a must when expecting visitors. If you have a bench with storage, add machinewashable liner to the cubby to keep shelves clean and dry. Placing liner by the entrance of your home will

also offer extra space to store muddy or wet shoes and stop salt and snow from tracking in the house. When guests leave, toss the liner in the wash and reuse. Spotless spaces for kids. All holiday gatherings need a space for kids to have fun and play together. While setting up for arts and crafts, line the table with a clear, textured liner to prevent crayons, markers or glue from damaging surfaces. When it’s time to clean up, simply wipe the liner or toss it in the dishwasher. Get your guest room ready. If you have family staying overnight, it’s time to get your guest room in shape. Dress up drawers and closet shelves with Smooth Top EasyLiner. The grip bottom will keep the liner and items in place. Trendy patterns will

elevate your home décor and guests will appreciate how clean and homey the space feels during their stay. Bathroom basics. Once you’re done prepping the guest room, don’t forget about the guest bathroom. Keep styling stations and the bath clean and tidy with shelf liner and a bath mat. Duck Brand offers a variety of cushioned, machinewashable bath and shower mats for extra comfort and safety. The Clorox mat is also designed to prevent the growth of mold and mildew on the mat. Making these small updates around the house now will keep your most-used spaces clean and tidy to ensure family and friends are comfortable and happy over the holidays.

Must-haves for holiday baking and entertaining (StatePoint) Whether you’re a beginning baker or an experienced entertainer, having the right tools can make the process of holiday party prep faster, easier, more festive – and ensure you can achieve expert-level results. Here are a few must-haves to add to your holiday shopping list. • Spatulas That Make You Smile. From cookie batters to mashed potatoes, everyone needs a quality spatula to whip up their favorite holiday dishes. And now you can have both fun and function with Tovolo Spatulart Spatulas featuring double-sided holiday designs and puns. With a nylon core, these high-quality spatulas provide strength for the heaviest mixing jobs, silicone edges that remain flexible for easy scraping, and an FSC-certified wood handle. They’re the perfect environmentally conscious way to add a tremendous tool with a touch of whimsy to the kitchen roster. • Mix Without the Mess. A quality set of mixing bowls is a must for any baking, cooking, prep or storage. While there are many types of bowl sets, stainless steel is ideal for its durability and lightweight design. Choose a set that offers nesting, for easy and efficient cupboard storage; lids to keep foods fresh; deep sides to avoid messes; and a rolled lip for easy pouring. • Basics for Better Baking. Move over parchment paper— serious bakers know the key to perfect baked goods is a quality baking mat. In addition to

insulating your pan for even cooking and baking, baking mats protect your pans from baked-on food and grime and prevent sticking, without any paper waste. Additionally, they can double as a work surface featuring grid lines for cookie sizing and spacing, while also offering easy clean-up—just drop them in the dishwasher. • Classy Containers for Clean Up. Speaking of cleanup, disinfecting wipes have become a staple in most kitchens. Luckily, you can now store your wipes in style with Spectrum Decorative Disinfecting Wipe Containers. Available in four fashionable finishes to fit in with any décor, the rustresistant containers fit 35- to 75-80-count wipes packages and feature a push-button lid and non-slip bottom for easy one-handed access. • Shape Up Your Cocktails. Once your food menu is set,

don’t forget the beverages. Create memorable cocktails and mocktails everyone will be talking about with uniquely shaped craft ice. Tovolo offers a variety of craft ice molds— from spheres and sports balls to novelty and holiday shapes. Requiring minimal prep, the easy-to-use molds stack in your freezer to save space and will make you look like a master mixologist. Having the right tools makes all the difference when you’re whipping up culinary creations. Be sure to equip yourself right for a season of easy and festive holiday prep.

The mural was designed so people could flll in sections similar to paint by number. ”People did a pretty good job fllling it in,‘ Graber said. She noted it was fun to watch kids and adults pick the color they wanted and start to paint. Approximately 50 community members participated. The program has 100 volunteers to help with everything from distributing donation boxes to shopping for families who signed up for the program. Toys for Tots gearing up to help Santa %\ /$85(1 =(8*1(5 $VVRFLDWH (GLWRU Ever wonder how Santa is able to make those special deliveries all on Christmas Eve? Well in the U.S., he gets special help from the U.S. Marine Corps and its Toys for Tots program. In Elkhart County, Wes and Kathy Young coordinate the program while it’s sponsored by the Elkhart Area Marines, Marine Corps League 1397. The Youngs have been busy hosting sign up days for parents who need assistance in getting toys for their children, overseeing the volunteers who have delivered collection boxes throughout the county and sorting the toys that have been coming in. A huge toy drive was held at Home and Harvest, the former Big R location, on South Main Street in Elkhart the weekend of Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 11, all the collection boxes will be picked up from throughout the county and taken to Obeco, where the toys will be sorted and distributed. “Obeco has been so good to us,” Wes said. “Three years ago when we moved in, none of the rooms were being used. Now people are working in the hallways so we can be here.” The Youngs keep track of how many toys come in from the donation boxes and how many are available for each age group. On distribution day, parents receive

an average of three toys per age group. When the toys are dropped off at Obeco, they are sorted according to age and type of toy. Kathy said a lot of arts and craft items are donated. “We try to give every family a game and (the Toys for Tots) foundation sent enough books for each child to have a book,” she said. In 2020, Toys for Tots served 2,200 children. The final numbers for 2021 weren’t available at press time. The Youngs start Toys for Tots Foundation in January when they send in their application to be a local collection organization. That approval usually comes in March. Then in August the Youngs begin preparing the drivers list. The drivers are the volunteers who drop off about 400 boxes throughout Elkhart County. Many of the donation boxes are dropped off at RV factories and local businesses. “If you live in Elkhart County, we serve you. If you donate toys they stay in Elkhart County,” Kathy said. “Elkhart County has been very generous.” The Youngs said Elkhart County is one of the top three local collection organizations Toys for Tots has in the region. In October the collection boxes are distributed throughout the county with sign ups held in November. Sign-up for Toys for Tots is usually done through the Salvation

Army in Goshen and Elkhart. This year the Youngs also did their own sign-ups at Tolson Center. “The (Elkhart) Mayor’s office was very good with facilities and helping in getting the word out,” Wes said. December is spent counting, sorting and distributing toys. “We distribute evenly between the ministries (Toys for Tots serves) and the Salvation Army,” Wes said. Toys for Tots also does its own distribution which will be held the weekend of Dec. 18. When distribution occurs, people come into the parking lot of Obeco, while they wait, a volunteer will take their paperwork, shop for their children and then local Eagle Scouts deliver the toys to the family’s vehicle. Members of the Marine Riders help with directing traffic in the parking lot. “We have more than 100 volunteers. Without them, this wouldn’t happen,” Kathy said. Any leftover toys will go to Guidance Ministries so they can still be distributed. This is probably the last year Toys for Tots can be housed at Obeco, due to the company undergoing an expansion. The Youngs are looking for a new location for 2022. Wes said the program can work within 3,000 square feet, but they would prefer to have 5,0006,000 square feet to work within. The new location will need to be secured by August for promotional reasons, with the program moving in sometime in mid-November.
