Forget the donkey rides, getting married is the only way to truly experience the romantic mountain town, writes Dilip Kuner

T was back in the early 1990s that Sandra and I first discovered the magical pueblo of Mijas. We were so enchanted with the place we chose it to begin our married life and tied the knot at the town hall in 1995. Not at the traditional whitewashed building that still stands proudly in the heart of the village, but the modern opulent replacement - with so much marble, it felt more befitting a wedding than the dingy cramped nearby register office. OK, the paperwork may have proved horrendous - it took us nine months to cut the red tape, with me being born in Africa and Sandra carrying a French passport - but we finally made it. We were married by the deputy mayor, no less, after they finally found our paperwork having somehow lost it on the morning of the big day. Continues on next page
