ENGAGED VOTERS
Survey reveals most OSU students registered to vote By Adam Morey
Eighty percent of respondents to a survey conducted by multimedia journalism students at OSU are registered to vote. Eighty-eight percent of them will be voting in the 2020 presidential election. Voting gives a voice to the American people. But voter disinterest is a common issue in American elections. In the 2016 presidential election, only 58.6% of eligible voters cast a ballot, according to Penn State University. Eighty percent of participants in a poll conducted by MMJ majors at OSU said they were registered to vote and 70% said they were planning on voting in the upcoming presidential election. According to the poll, 37% of voters will be voting for Biden, 43% will vote for Trump, and the remaining 20% are either undecided, or are voting 3rd party. This election cycle has been particularly contentious, as both sides claim the other will bring about the downfall of America. Nearly everyone has an opinion about the president, but
that isn’t always enough to drive voters to polling places. For Emily Singleton, the options for president are not good. She said Biden is too weak on most of her voting issues, and she doesn’t agree with Trump at all. Singleton said she will be voting on Nov. 3, but intends to leave the presidential ballot blank. “It doesn’t make much of a difference in Oklahoma,” she said. “Even if I was in Texas, I’d vote since they’ve been seeing a blue wave. But here, it’s going to go to Trump no matter what.” Singleton said she believes by voting in the other elections, but not voting for a presidential candidate, she is using her voice. She said there is no way she will vote for Trump, but Biden can secure her vote by firming up his education plan. She says she believes that all the other issues will follow if America can fix its education system. For some voters though, voting is a given. Jordyn Walls said she believes that those who don’t vote are doomed to live with other people’s decisions. “Voting is important in every single election is important,” she said. “Even the local offices can make a big change
on a system.” Walls says she will be voting for Biden, because she “doesn’t want to finish college, and live in the adult world” under another term of Trump’s Presidency.

COVID causes struggle for international students, faculty and staff. By Samantha Sanchez About 91 countries around the world provide cultural enrichment for Oklahoma State University, but this year, diversity has faced some challenges because of Covid-19. The Dean of the Social Studies department, Dr. Randy Kluver, spoke on the impact of the 25% drop in the number of international students coming to OSU, as well as the vital role they play on campus. “We think that the international students are an incredibly important part of the university because they bring talent, they bring new perspectives, they bring new ways of looking at issues, they allow our students to interact with somebody from a very different cultural background,” Kluver said. “So, we are not happy, what can I say.” The process of an international student to enroll at Oklahoma State University alone is intricate and rather extensive and adding a global pandemic to the mix has only complicated the
process further. “Just getting their documents issued, getting an embassy open, getting a Visa, having to go through adminis-

to include their own experiences from their native country into their teaching material and style, making a more exclusive learning experience. Kluver expands on how Covid-19 disrupted diversity through faculty.
“We have a faculty member, for example, in our school upstairs, the school of global studies, who had to go home to Ghana
Adam Luther
over the summer to work on his Visa issues. Well, guess what, the US embassy in Ghana is closed. He can’t get back. And he is a faculty member,” Kluver said. International students and faculty
members not only uplift Oklahoma State University academically, but international staff enriches the quality of the services provided by departments like Dinning Services in various unique ways. “They bring a lot of their knowledge with them because they are already in this major, so they have the idea of food sanitation, they have the idea of food production, so that really helps our campus, our Dining Services to provide better service for our students,” Vedda Hsu, Director of University Dining Services, said. From the student body, to faculty, to staff, Covid-19 has not only forced physical distance, but it has separated us from differences that allow us to see the world from another perspective: diversity. All areas say they hope Covid-19 subsides so they can resume the enriching relationships and experiences brought by international students.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS DEBATE By Ellen Slater
Love it or hate it?
With the foliage turning orange and finals approaching, it is natural that students are taking a step back and thinking about this whirlwind fall semester for what it is. But students and staff are not the only things that are taking a step back this season. Love it or hate it, daylight savings time has come to an end and the clocks were set back an hour this weekend. The change happened early Sunday at 2 a.m. This is the hour that the bars close on The Strip, so students celebrating Halloween night on Washington Street were sure to be happy that the clocks went back and
drinks would be served for another hour. However, most were probably fast asleep when the time change happened. Whether people were awake for the change, they are still bound to have an opinion when it affects their 8 a.m. classes on Monday. With a fall semester full of political rallies on campus and petitions, OSU students have made it clear that they have strong opinions, and this topic is no different. “Daylight savings time is a detriment to modern society,” Mallory King, hospitality and tourism management junior, said. King is on the side of abolishing daylight savings time. Extreme as that may sound, it is something that other states such as Arizona
have already done. On the other hand, some students are not as bothered by the idea of setting their clocks back. Multimedia journalism senior, Kelsey Hausman, prefers this time change to when the clocks spring forward. When she woke up the morning of the change and noticed that it was earlier than her usual wake up time, she was relieved. “It brings a renewed and uplifting presence,” said Hausman. “I am excited to get my sleeping schedule back on track.” Daylight Savings time started in the United States to have more light during the evening to conserve energy during WWII. It was helpful for farmers, among others, for
the country in a time of need. Nowadays, the United States does not necessarily need it for any reason like this, but it supposedly helps the economy with people naturally wanting to stay out later and do things like go shopping or get gas later into the evening. Is Daylight Savings outdated or is it good for society? Whether you love it, hate it or fell somewhere in the middle, let this serve as a reminder for one thing: Your car clock probably does not automatically change, and professors most likely will not let that be an excuse for missing an assignment. lifestyle.ed@ocolly.com
ACTIVE FAITH! (Part #1) “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” (Heb.11: NIV) By faith, Abel was commended by God for his offering.(fat portions from his flock) He offered the best he had to God. Cain, was unaccepted, because he offered some of the fruit of the land. In his day, Abel was sure and certain in his knowledge of God, and acted accordingly. (Gen 4:1-5) In his day Enoch believed God existed and he rewarded those who sought him. The Bible tells us that he walked with God! (Gen 5:21-24) Why did he walk with God when others did not? Because he was sure and certain about what he knew of God, and therefore sought and found God real. He had a steady fellowship with the Almighty. We can do the same in our day! It seems so easy to fall into a historical
faith, believing the truth and actions of those in the past, but lacking a present, active trust. Yet the Bible encourages us continually to pursue a God that is real today and can be found. We can offer our best to him and we can personally walk with God. Jesus died and rose again to show us that God loves us. Trusting Christ, we are free from the guilt and power of our sins, so we can fellowship and walk with God. We can offer to him our best, and we can be led by him into a continual relationship. It is very real. We can personally know him We can know his will for our lives and prepare ourselves for eternity with him. Historical faith can be very empty, passive, and unimportant. Personal, present and active faith in a real and living God, brings us to a reality and purpose with one who loves us and is faithful to us.

Coach B just a regular guy
Ben Hutchens Cool Breeze and coach Buzz sound like the latest flavor of Gatorade, but hey, apparently energy drink flavors make for cool nicknames. OSU guard Rondel Walker called his middle school basketball coach “coach Buzz” because his coach “was like Buzz Lightyear.” Guard Chris Harris Jr. called his former coach Tyrone Maxey “cool breeze” because Maxey was such a laid back and cool guy. Now, both players call their coach, Mike Boynton, a nickname that might not be as flashy as the ones they’ve used in the past, but one that illuminates the sort of down to earth guy Boynton is. Boynton is simply called “Coach B.” “I’ve always called coach B, coach B because at first, I didn’t really know how to say his name properly,” Harris said. “I would call him like ‘Boyntaun’ ‘Boyteen,’ something like that, so I’ve always just pronounced it coach B. But as the relationship grew, I just got comfortable calling him coach B.” Walker said through his years of being recruited by Boynton, they developed a bond and grew familiar with
