esterose, AB – During the 2025 Fall Senior Symposium Banquet on October 26, 4-H Alberta proudly announced the incoming Ambassadors alongside this year’s Premier’s Award recipient. The Premier’s Award is the highest honour bestowed upon a 4-H Alberta member. Originally donated by the Honourable E.C. Manning, Premier of Alberta, the award was first presented in 9 4 to recogni e an outstanding 4e ber s leadership, dedication, and contributions. Each year, the Premier’s Award recipient is selected from among the current 4-H Ambassadors and represents 4-H Alberta at provincial and national events. How our bulls are developed...
How our cows are managed...
We sell all summer born two year old bulls. We believe they are the ideal age and we can develop them to maintain soundness and longevity. • Calves are born mid-May until the first week of July - grass calved - checked, tagged and weighed only once per day. No night checks, cameras or calving barn. (with this system problems eliminate themselves.) • We wean in November, bull calves are backgrounded in big groups till spring on a silage based growing ration. • By spring our bulls are well grown out but not fleshy... just perfect to take advantage of our grass. • Bulls are sorted by breed and size into groups of 30-50 bulls. • Bulls go to our management intensive grazing paddocks from late May or June until late October. • Water is provided by solar systems or surface piped fresh water. • We move bulls to fresh grass every two days all summer long. • The pasture is a good quality, everyday, it ensures they grow well all summer. A real bonus here is that they are used to a man on foot and constant checking. • As summer progresses we supplement the bulls with a low energy, high protein pellet made specifically to our specs and made of pea and lentil hulls. No starch, high fibre with added minerals and vitamins. (about the nutrient content of good alfalfa hay) • In late fall the bulls are brought to our bull lots and placed on our silage based bull development TMR (total mixed ration). This is ideal because every mouthful the bull takes he has the right proportion of all nutrients, no bingeing on just grain. No barley or coarse grain is fed, just our bull development pellets. • Our rations and protocols have been developed over years of experience to bring you the best, most durable bulls possible.
• We maintain a large cowherd managed under commercial conditions to minimize cost and time, every cow is a registered purebred. • Cows calve in May and June on stock piled grass - we do not feed our cows during calving... they rustle! • They are grass calved in groups of 200 or so checked by one man once per day to tag and weigh. • No night checks, cameras or calving barns. • Calving is what our cows do... not what we do! (with this system problems eliminate themselves). bl l h l ) • Cows are sorted (paired out on horseback to have a good look at feet, udders, milk etc.) in late June to our breeding pastures. • Our pastures are spread over 150 miles so nearly every one goes on a liner going somewhere. • We use all natural service... Bulls go out August 1 for 60 days. • Calves are weaned starting mid October to mid November group by group. • Cows are left on grazing for as long as possible into fall. • Cows move home and are wintered on standing corn in groups of 200 per quarter controlled with electric fence. Our objective is 200 cow/days per acre, they lick snow for water. • Our cows go from the calving pastures to summer grazing and breeding, make a short stop p at the home ranch for weaning, g, then on to the standing g corn. Corn to grass, grass to corn and on it goes, with no supplement feed ding and no hauling feed or manure. I just d believe that as soon as yyou put machinery or diesel fuel between a cow’s mouth and what sshe eats, it does nothing but cost money.

Cereals Canada And James Richardson & Sons, Limited Sign MOU For Future Home Of Gate Winnipeg, MB, December 10, 2025

ereals Canada and James Richardson & Sons, Limited (JRSL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) pursuant to which Richardson Centre, a subsidiary of JRSL, will make an inkind contribution of land for the development of the Global Agriculture Technology Exchange (Gate) facility in downtown Winnipeg. The MOU establishes a framework for the contribution of a parcel of land located at the corner of Lombard Avenue and Westbrook Street, steps away from Winnipeg’s historic Portage & Main intersection. The land to
be provided will be a foundational asset to support the development of the Gate facility, contingent upon the success of the project’s capital campaign. ecuring what we previously identified as the ost desirable site for ate is a significant step forward, and we are deeply appreciative of James Richardson & Sons for their generosity,” said Dean Dias, CEO of Cereals Canada. “Together, we are building the foundation for a project that will support Canada’s grain competitiveness well into the future.” The signing of the MOU is a major milestone for
the ereals anada-led pro ect. t re ects the co itment of JRSL in supporting Gate and its vision of creating a world-class hub for collaboration, innovation, and market development to ensure Canada remains at the forefront of the global cereals sector. “Our family has been in the grain industry since 1857, and we appreciate the importance of the work that Cereals Canada performs to help expand and diversify export markets for the grain that Canadian farmers produce. We also believe that the heart of downtown Winnipeg, which is home to many of Canada’s leading agriculture companies and institutions, is the natural location for the Gate. We’re proud to contribute to a vision that advances the industry, as well as the revitalization of downtown Winnipeg,” said Thor Richardson, President of James Richardson & Sons, Limited. “The global trade environment upon which our grain industry depends is more challenging than ever, and we believe that by supporting Gate, we are helping ensure that Canadian agriculture and farming communities continue to thrive for generations to come.” The $102-million state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for research, training, and international collaboration. reetings readers and fellow 4H members! The 2026 season has started out as a bundle of fun activities and many presentations by Cattle experts on tips about raising our projects this year. Notably we had a How to Raise Your Cow presentation by Lynn Thiesson from Dawson Veterinary Clinic, focusing in on Nutrition, Calving and Vaccines. Exceptionally valuable as we strive to raise healthy robust projects this year. Andrea Conrad also shared to the club about Feed Conversion, Thanks to you both for providing us with your helpful insight. This year is the clubs 76th (Second oldest in province!) and we have 44 members. As for current events we have completed our Weigh in Day, hosted by VJV (In which we weigh all our projects for their start weight.), and began our monthly meetings. The club also held our 75th Anniversary party last month where we hosted games and food for anyone who was able to come out and help celebrate the club’s impressive milestone! At this time of year 4H Members are beginning to halter and lead their Steer projects for upcoming Cattle shows and 4H Achievement Day which is happening May 25th ; so mark it on your calendars for a time to cheer on the local 4H or invest in some home grown beef raised by Beaver lodge’s up and coming Cattleman generation! anadian farmers reported higher production for most crops in 2025, including wheat, canola, barley, oats, dry peas and lentils, but lower production for corn and soybeans. In general, yields were higher than 2024, particularly in Western Canada, where favourable weather conditions later in the growing season helped crop development. In Western Canada, weather conditions were somewhat variable throughout the 2025 growing season. Despite dry conditions throughout early parts of the summer, timely precipitation later in the growing season considerably
improved conditions. The improvement in growing conditions pushed yields and production for several crops grown predominantly in the Prairies to record highs. Harvest conditions were generally good across the Prairies, proceeding roughly in line with historical averages and largely complete by mid-October. In Eastern Canada, rainfall was generally below average. Combined with summer heat, these conditions resulted in lower yields in many areas. Like Western Canada, harvest conditions were generally good, with harvest proceeding in a timely manner.

Total wheat production rose 11.2%
year over year to a record 40.0 million tonnes in 2025, surpassing the previous record set in 2013. Spring wheat led the increase in production in 2025, rising 10.3% to 29.3 million tonnes on higher yields (+12.9% to 58.8 bushels per acre), offsetting lower harvested area, which fell 2.1% to 18.3 million acres. Durum wheat production rose 11.8% to 7.1 million tonnes in 2025, with higher yields and higher harvested area both contributing to the increase. Despite lower yields, higher harvested area helped to push winter wheat production up, rising 17.0% to 3.6 million tonnes. In Saskatchewan, lower harvested wheat area (-4.3% to 13.5 million acres) co pared with the previous year was offset by higher yields (+10.9% to 49.7 bushAuctioneer License# 334497

Alberta producers reported higher wheat yields (+18.8% to 57.0 bushels per acre), which combined with higher harvested area (+4.0% to 7.9 million acres) resulted in a 23.6% increase in wheat production to 12.3 million tonnes. Wheat production in Manitoba climbed 2.2% to 5.9 million tonnes. Yields in the province edged up 0.3% to 65.6 bushels per acre, while harvested area rose 1.9% to 3.3 million acres.

LOWER YIELDS PUSH CORN FOR GRAIN PRODUCTION DOWN Nationally, total corn for grain production fell 3.1% to 14.9 million tonnes in 2025. Yield fell 3.9% to 162.2 bushels per acre, while harvested area rose 0.7% to 3.6 million acres. Lower yields were the result of dry growing conditions in parts of Eastern Canada, where most corn is grown. In Ontario, where more than half of the country's corn is grown, production was down 1.4% to 9.5 million tonnes. Harvested area rose 1.0% to 2.1 million acres but was offset by lower yields, which decreased 2.4% to 175.6 bushels per acre. Corn for grain production in Quebec fell 18.3% from 2024 to 2.9 million tonnes in 2025. Harvested area decreased 6.1% to 822,800 acres, while yields fell below the five-year average, dropping 13.0% to 141.1 bushels per acre. Manitoba farmers reported growing 22.5% more corn for grain, totalling 2.2 million tonnes in 2025, driven by both
higher harvested area (+16.2% to 579,600 acres) and higher yields, which rose 5.5% to 147.0 bushels per acre.

Nationally, soybean production decreased 10.2% to 6.8 million tonnes in 2025. The decrease in production was the result of lower yields, which fell 11.4% to 43.5 bushels per acre, offsetting higher harvested area (+1.4% to 5.7 million acres.). Lower production was led by Ontario and Quebec, where yields fell compared with the previous year, likely because of hot and dry conditions, offsetting production gains reported by Manitoba. Soybean production in Ontario decreased 18.2% to 3.6 million tonnes. Both lower harvested area (-7.2% to 2.9 million acres) and lower yields (-11.8% to 45.7 bushels per acre) contributed to the decrease. Respondents in Manitoba reported lower yields compared with the previous year, falling 3.2% to 42.6 bushels per acre in 2025, but still well above the fiveyear average. Harvested area rose 16.2% to 1.6 million acres, resulting in higher production, which rose 12.3% to 1.9 million tonnes. Soybean production in Quebec fell 15.6% from one year earlier to 1.2 million tonnes, on lower yields (-19.2% to 40.1 bushels per acre), offsetting higher harvested area (+4.3% to 1.1 million acres).
