Our Marine Charity Partners

When booking our holidays, a small donation is made to help protect the oceans for the future and each year we proudly partner with a marine charity. In 2025, we were thrilled to team up with the Manta Trust, a charity dedicated to the conservation of manta rays and their relatives through research, education and collaboration. Thanks to the incredible support from our clients and a staff fundraiser, we raised over £4,600 for the Manta Trust!

A Message from Manta Trust

The support we’ve received from Dive Worldwide has been truly remarkable. It’s allowed us to expand our education programme in schools across the country and develop exciting campaigns that will accelerate our mission to save the sharks and protect the oceans. We’re enormously grateful to the fantastic team at Dive Worldwide and to its clients who’ve helped make this possible.

Alluring Alor

Last September, Dive Travel Consultant Cath Bates joined our Alor Liveaboard Adventure aboard the intimate and elegant MY Emperor Raja Laut. Sailing through this seldom-visited Indonesian archipelago, she encountered Mola mola, thresher sharks, dolphins and reefs teeming with life. Here she reflects on her highlights from Alor’s hidden underwater paradise.

Tolkien wrote, “Not all who wander are lost.” Although, I did feel a bit lost researching a remote area of Indonesia I’d never heard of – the Lesser Sunda Islands –which liveaboard itineraries usually list as ‘Alor’.

I was blessed to join the Emperor Raja Laut on its first Alor itinerary last crossover season. Having been on the boat in 2019, I was excited to return.

Alor remains very much on the down-low. With only a few intimate dive resorts and one domestic flight option, it’s a precious secret. Cold water rises from the depths, gifting Alor with amazing visibility, colourful corals and pelagic species. I was lucky enough to encounter a Mola mola, two thresher sharks and over 100 dolphins. Schools of scalloped hammerheads can be spotted too.

We had our check dive in Kalabahi Bay, then continued towards Ternate and Pura islands before ending in Alor Besar. Dive sites combined coral slopes, sandy areas, muck, wall dives and drop-offs. With this

blend of varied topography, everyone seemed happy and the photographers were spoilt for choice.

I was particularly enamoured by Reta Wall on Ternate with its hard coral pinnacles swarming with damselfish guarding eggs. As we shallowed up, we saw Gorgonia, black coral, curly whips and staghorn coral. Nearby Babylon had the highest quantity of small fish I’ve ever seen on one dive: surgeonfish, triggers, damsels, anthias and chromis battling for space among table corals and barrel sponges.

As we reached Pura Island, we could feel the cooler water from the Indian Ocean. Bait balls of eel catfish and sardines rolled between plate corals, while anemones laddered along crevices and overhangs. I expected to be photographing spaghetti anemones at Clown Valley, but a flash of silver had our group watching a couple of pelagic threshers instead!

Hot Rock at Pantar Island sent smoke signals to us to dive in, and what better subjects to look for in black volcanic sand than weird critters. Early morning light rays

danced among the legs of the village jetty as we chased longfin batfish and juvenile emperor angelfish in circles around them. Down in the muck, our eagle-eyed guide spied fireworms, baby scorpionfish, long arm octopus and unicorn sole.

On our penultimate day, we dived Mandarin Wall off Pura Island. Soft polyp corals sprouted from tube sponges, anemone poked through gaps in the Acropora and huge barrel sponges looked like split meteorites. Iridescent fish swam near brain and mosaic corals, while dottybacks, fairy wrasse and fusiliers changed direction every time a silver shadow graced the reef slope.

On our final day, we visited a local village to see the traditional dress and learn about betel nut. After 17 dives, it was quite surreal to be back on terra firma in front of a man holding a bow and arrows!

Someone once said to me that diving in Alor is like watching water breathing. The water took my breath away here, so much so that I’ve already booked to go back in April when the dry season begins!

Indonesia: Alor Liveaboard Adventure

Embark on a thrilling liveaboard adventure to the seldom-visited region of Alor – one of the most diverse and exciting diving destinations in Indonesia. Alor is known for its black, volcanic sand muck diving and biodiversity, and you can expect everything from nudibranchs and tiny shrimps to hammerhead sharks and dolphins. Home to the Pantar Strait, you’ll find some of Indonesia’s best preserved coral reefs, pinnacles, walls and bountiful marine life. This itinerary can be combined with other exciting locations on extended liveaboard itineraries. 15 days from £5,295

Raja Ampat Uncovered

Raja Ampat had long been on Dive Travel Consultant Georgia Randalls’ bucket list, and last year she was able to experience its extraordinary biodiversity. Splitting her time between a liveaboard and a resort, she saw an incredible variety of marine life.

Find out what makes this destination so special, and why Georgia can’t wait to return!

Raja Ampat has always been on my bucket list, so when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance to dive into this extraordinarily biodiverse destination.

The archipelago is well worth the journey. Flying from London to Jakarta, followed by a flight to Sorong, the buzz of big cities and busy airports is quickly replaced by stunning scenery, both above and below the surface.

Diving from a liveaboard followed by a week in a resort allowed me to experience the best of both worlds. A traditional phinisi liveaboard is a great way to feel immersed in the local way of life. If there’s a chance for the liveaboard crew to put the sails out, I’d highly recommend it. It feels like being transported to a different time, cruising along peacefully with only the wind to guide you.

The diving itself was unforgettable. With up to four dives a day, there are fantastic opportunities to see an abundance of marine life. Batfish cruised past on multiple dives, and we were joined by

schools of barracuda and jackfish. We also encountered ornate ghost pipefish, banded pipefish, porcelain crabs, squat lobsters, frogfish, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, wobbegongs, walking sharks and much more.

One of my favourite memories was the ‘Santa Claus’ pygmy seahorse, spotted by my eager guide. Expertly camouflaged and smaller than your pinky nail, they’re easily missed – but once you can focus your eyes, they’re truly wonderful to see. In contrast, there was no need to focus to see the magnificent manta rays at Manta Sandy. Seeing them glide effortlessly overhead was spectacular.

The Raja Ampat authorities do a fantastic job protecting these animals. There’s a platform above the water at Manta Sandy, and the area is closely monitored and protected. You can clearly see the genuine impact of the local projects and conservation efforts on both the people and the underwater world.

My liveaboard experience was followed by a tranquil stay at a traditional Papuan

resort, nestled in the jungle and facing out into a peaceful lagoon. I felt very far away from the normal buzz of life, and waking up to the sight of emerald jungle blending into crystal-clear water teeming with life is a feeling that’s hard to beat.

Here, two dives a day were balanced with relaxing afternoons soaking up the sunshine and visits to topside attractions, including Kali Biru River and the local island of Arborek. Both are the perfect complement to a morning of diving.

One of my favourite dive sites was the magnificent Melissa’s Garden, where soft corals blended together to create a carpet of colour stretching further than the eye can see. The visibility was crystalclear, and the colours of the reefs were truly magical. The feeling is as close to drifting through another world as you can experience.

Raja Ampat is a special destination and offers a world of marine life that’s rarely matched elsewhere. It has a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to go back!

Indonesia: Dive Raja Ampat

Resort-based diving in Raja Ampat offers divers and snorkellers a world-class experience on both the reefs and islands. The epicentre of the Coral Triangle, you can expect unparalleled marine biodiversity. This is an area of pristine beauty, where 75 percent of the world’s corals and over 1,400 fish species are found in the protected waters. This remote area offers breathtaking views, unique landscapes, a mind-blowing underwater experience and plenty of topside nature. 14 days from £2,945

The Goddess of the Archipelago

Product Manager Jo Charter recently spent ten nights sailing around Indonesia on the luxurious Dewi Nusantara. With two whale shark sessions in Cenderawasih Bay National Park included, she was able to dive and snorkel with these gentle giants. Read on to discover why she recommends this exceptional vessel for your next liveaboard.

The Dewi Nusantara is a stunning schooner-style vessel, offering five-star service and exceptional diving in Indonesia. While most wooden liveaboards in the region are traditional phinisi vessels, the Dewi Nusantara was designed with more onboard space and grander visuals. The result is a luxurious and vast liveaboard that sails through the remote waters of Indonesia’s Coral Triangle.

We joined the Dewi Nusantara in Sorong and set sail into Cenderawasih Bay National Park. Before we even set foot on board, the crew were warm and welcoming. Many have been part of the team for over 25 years, and their experience and dedication show.

Now, we need to talk about whale sharks – the biggest fish in the ocean. The Dewi Nusantara operated two half-day whale shark sessions during our itinerary. Early one morning, when we reached Kwatisore, the team visited the bagans (traditional fishing platforms) to see how many whale sharks were at each one. Not to see if they were there, but how many!

We set off in spacious, comfortable skiffs towards the bagan and the excitement among us was palpable. Before we even reached the platform, we spotted the whale sharks’ unmistakable mouths jutting out of the water. We spent over an hour watching two feeding, dancing and bumping into one another. Occasionally, one would swim into the abyss, and we had no idea where they were going to pop up. Then all of a sudden, a fish the size of a car would swim past. We spent over four hours in the water that day and I couldn’t wait to do it all over again.

On day two, we had more consistent sightings. This time, there were three whale sharks – one at over nine metres and two smaller ones. Snorkelling was another experience altogether. We watched in awe as their gigantic mouths hoovered the silversides from the surface. It was a pleasure to float and absorb their behaviour, picking up on their route patterns and hierarchy. The guides were exceptional throughout – offering advice, answering questions and recommending the best positions for photographers. When someone wanted

to rest, a skiff was always nearby to watch from the surface, a rope was offered to hold on to, or we could be shuttled back to the mothership.

The high level of service continued on our other dives. My guide was fantastic, tailoring our dives to our diving styles, spotting a wonder of tiny marine life and even helping to frame shots. We spotted several endemic species, including the Cenderawasih fairy wrasse, Cenderawasih epaulette ‘walking’ shark, Caitlin dottybacks and much more.

The ten nights I spent on Dewi Nusantara felt like a dream. Impeccable service, wonderful diving and world-class whale shark interactions. I’ve not even mentioned the post-dive mini massages and the hot chocolate after night dives, the generously sized cabins, or the best food I’ve ever had on a liveaboard.

The Dewi Nusantara operates itineraries throughout the year to both classic and lesser-known regions of the archipelago. I thoroughly recommend her for anyone looking for an elevated liveaboard in Indonesia. You simply can’t go wrong!

Indonesia: Dewi Nusantara

Step aboard Indonesia’s most exquisite liveaboard and journey through the beating heart of the Coral Triangle. The ‘Goddess of the Archipelago’ combines elegant suites, world-class service and expert dive guidance as she cruises the country’s most coveted reefs. Sulawesi’s Secret Aquarium

Always on the lookout for new dive destinations, Dive Worldwide Manager Phil North was excited to visit Sulawesi’s little-known Tompotika Dive Lodge. From its spectacular location near world-class dive sites to its simple pleasures, he explains why this remote gem has earned its place in our collection.

As the plane began its descent to Luwuk, I gazed out at a ribbon of seemingly unexplored reefs punctuating the deep blue sea. Despite Sulawesi’s status as a top dive destination, so much is yet to be explored. This time, it was a littleknown dive resort I was excited to investigate: Tompotika Dive Lodge.

This tiny, five-room resort has intrigued me ever since I heard about it. Facing the rich Molucca Sea and the beautiful Pulau Dua Island (pictured top right), with the legendary Wakatobi to the south and Lembeh to the north, it holds great promise for divers. More akin to a liveaboard on land than some modern dive resorts, it’s a place of simple pleasures, but I was left wanting for nothing from the friendly, attentive staff. Eat, snooze, dive, relax. Repeat.

I arrived just in time for an afternoon dive at Jenad Point. This was an easy dive, but I was immediately struck by the quality of the reef. Healthy corals were everywhere, elephant ear sponges reached impressive

sizes and reef life was abundant. So many redtoothed triggerfish flitted above the reef, while a crocodile fish, black ribbon eel and pink hairy squat lobster stole the show.

The following morning began with a deep, adrenaline-fuelled dive to a pair of submerged pinnacles called Batu Gong. There was life everywhere and soft corals clung to every available spot. A whitetip reef shark cruised the channel, and at the pinnacle we watched in awe as a huge school of trevally engulfed us. Never mind the gong, this site threw the entire orchestra at us!

After a hearty breakfast, we headed to the gorgeous Mayumi Wall. Our guide dared to mention the possibility of pygmy seahorses, and undaunted, she successfully found these elusive and charming animals. They weren’t just ‘normal’ pygmy seahorses though; these were even rarer Pontoh’s pygmies. The dive site also threw up more beautiful corals, endless fusiliers, batfish, a yellow moray and a friendly turtle, all in crystalclear visibility.

My last dive of the day was at Alibaba 1. We were greeted by a reef shark as we descended, and quickly happened across a circling school of chevron barracuda. A turtle passed by, we navigated two wonderful swim-throughs and spent time in the company of some very curious batfish. This was nature in perfect balance.

My final dive the following morning was at a site called Soler Reef. This is another pinnacle, this time just breaking the surface. Where the current hits the reef, trevally and rainbow runners mix with unicornfish and surgeonfish in the blue, while redtoothed triggerfish and a school of bannerfish dance a little closer to the reef.

With my brief stint in this little-known spot at an end, I had time to reflect on my experience here. The beauty of this area lies in its fabulous, healthy coral reefs and the variety of marine life that thrive here. It suits those who’ve travelled in Indonesia before, and those who like to keep things simple. It made my heart soar.

Indonesia: Tompotika Dive Lodge

The only dive lodge on the east coast of Central Sulawesi, Tompotika Dive Lodge is a great option for those looking for simple, yet quality diving away from the crowds. This intimate lodge provides access to the island’s eastern shores, offering unique access to the region’s excellent dive sites. Below the surface, a diverse and healthy marine environment is revealed. Lying close to the heart of the Coral Triangle, its reefs support a wealth of hard and soft corals, reef fish and unusual marine life.

NEW Mozambique Dive Expedition

Spirit of the Maldives

Following the recent launch of the new Spirit of Maldives liveaboard, Dive Travel Consultant Anna Williams joined our Heart of the Maldives itinerary to see what the excitement was about. Combining spacious decks, exceptional service and unforgettable diving, she explains why this modern liveaboard is a top choice for your next Maldivian adventure!

Spirit of Maldives is a fabulous new liveaboard operated by the team behind Beqa Lagoon Resort in Fiji, with an atmosphere that exudes a warm Fijian-style welcome. At 40 metres long and 13 metres wide, with three decks of space to relax, there’s always room to unwind in the sun, or in the shade, between dives. As with most Maldivian liveaboards, the dhoni serves as the full dive centre, and on Spirit, this was superbly well run with a dive team that got everything right, every time. There wasn’t a fin out of place!

I boarded Spirit in Malé, joining the Heart of the Maldives itinerary which took us in a circuit from North Malé to Rasdhoo. From there, we zigzagged south, exploring Ari Atoll before crossing back to South Malé for the last two eye-wateringly exciting drift dives.

Throughout the journey, we ticked off many of the iconic central atoll dive sites. At Madivaru Channel, I encountered huge schools of fish and over 30 grey reef sharks cruising back and forth.

At Maaya Thila, we circumnavigated the entire pinnacle, witnessing octopuses, turtles and mantas cruising high overhead, alongside whitetip and grey reef sharks. Whilst at Kudarah Thila, which I logged as ‘the most beautiful dive’, we saw overhangs, little caves, a stunning swimthrough, and so much happening both on the reef and into the blue to mesmerise us for over an hour.

Of course, no itinerary would be complete without some manta ray action, and Mahibadhoo Rock (aka Manta Point) provided just that. After an initial distraction of some mating sharks, we spent an hour watching reef manta rays all around us, cruising in and barrelling down the channel as they fed on the plankton. Adding to the spectacle, an immense ball of mackerel flowed around the divers, creating an unforgettable scene. The second dive here, a few days later, focused on coral blocks where a constant stream of mantas hovered for cleaning. It was an absolutely stunning experience.

Other enthralling dive sites included Alimatha Kandu, a stationary dive near the jetty, where we were treated to 30 or so tawny nurse sharks lazily cruising around the sandy channel; Kandooma Thila, where we were lucky enough to watch a ‘fever’ of eagle rays gliding past effortlessly, and Cocoa Corner, a fun drift dive where we spotted several grey reef sharks and an impressive number of hawksbill turtles munching away on the top of the reef, cooperatively hanging around for our safety stop.

All in all, Spirit of Maldives is an impressively spacious liveaboard vessel with a superb, attentive crew, an excellent choice of meals to satisfy everyone, and fantastic bar staff who make the most delicious selection of two-for-one cocktails every happy hour. I can’t wait to get back to the Maldives, all the better if I can get aboard the Spirit of Maldives once again, of course for the diving, but also for every aspect of this exceptional vessel and its crew.

Spirit of Maldives

This purpose-built vessel is designed with divers at the forefront. Providing a personalised service to each guest alongside exceptional diving and dining, it offers an unforgettable experience without compromising on style, comfort or safety. Each journey is designed to put you in the right place at the right time to see some of the Maldives’ most astonishing marine life.

Client Reviews

We take great pride in arranging amazing diving holidays all over the globe and we love hearing about our clients’ experiences on them! From getting underwater footage of a humpback whale swimming in the Azores to encountering nudibranchs, lionfish and snowflake eels in Fiji’s soft corals, here are a selection of the incredible reviews we’ve received from our clients.

Our Travel Consultant, Anna, was great. We wouldn’t have found this holiday without her guidance, knowledge and enthusiasm. We had awesome resorts and diving, and felt well looked after and cared for. The three centres with transfers gave us a wide range of unforgettable experiences. Our dive guide was outstanding, as were all the guides, boat staff and dive centre staff.

Albert P, Indonesia: Walls, Schools & Critters – Nov 2025

The Dive Worldwide team helped to ensure my holiday arrangements were executed seamlessly. All levels of service were first class, and I was well catered for throughout. I saw four octopuses on my first dive and seahorses at Volivoli. Nudibranchs, lionfish and moray eels were aplenty! I even saw a snowflake eel and oodles of clownfish in anemones, amongst many other colourful tropical fish and lobsters. It was just what I’d hoped for!

I loved everything from start to finish. There was no hassle, just relax and dive. I encountered devil rays and a whale shark, got underwater footage of a humpback whale that was swimming next to us, and the local coastal diving was brilliant too. My Dive Worldwide Travel Consultant, Cath, is amazing at putting everything together and gave me the perfect mix of big animal diving and a city break. It’s been perfect!

The efficient, helpful and friendly service from Dive Worldwide was second to none. The communication was superb at every stage and it was very reassuring to know that they were there to sort out any issues.
