Dear Mount Vernon Community,

Every journey begins with purpose and meaningful impact begins when learners choose to lead from where they are.

This year, our community answered that call in ways that were both extraordinary and everyday. Across every division, learners stepped forward with curiosity, courage, empathy, and initiative, discovering that leadership is more than age or position but is centered with purpose and action.

At Mount Vernon, learning is an ongoing expedition, one where students develop agency, wrestle with questions, and create work that is genuinely consequential for the world around them. Guided by The Impact Ready Project, our ten-year strategic plan, we continue to design experiences that prepare every student to be college-ready, globally competitive, and an engaged citizen-leader equipped for a rapidly changing future.

In this report, we reflect on the 2025–26 school year through the lens of The Impact Ready Project’s four strategic targets. Through stories, data, and moments of transformation, you will see how Mount Vernon learners are strengthening literacy skills and attributes, building relationships and networks, and how our community is advancing research and innovation, while cultivating a culture rooted in belonging and connection.

This year’s stories reveal what happens when learners embrace the attribute of self-leadership, to lead from where they stand. The generosity of our community is a theme that runs through this report, which enables us to boldly invest in spaces and experiences that will serve Mustangs for generations to come.

We close this year and start our report by honoring the Class of 2026. Their journeys exemplify what a Mount Vernon education makes possible: learners prepared to lead through change.

They arrived as curious individuals. They leave as a class that redefined what it means to pursue purpose with passion, courage, and conviction. The 124 graduates of the Class of 2026, plus 10 MVSO graduates, designed journeys entirely their own, and the world took notice.

TARGET 1: LITERACIES, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

DESIGNING PERSONALIZED PATHWAYS FOR EVERY LEARNER

Learning is intentionally designed around each individual. Across every division, students engaged in differentiated instruction, inquiry-driven experiences, authentic projects, and flexible pathways that built literacy, critical thinking, connection, creativity, and agency in ways that were genuinely their own.

Guided by The Impact Ready Project, Mount Vernon continues to identify and measure the outcomes learners needed to achieve before graduating from each division, while creating experiences that challenged students to think deeply, communicate clearly, solve real problems, and apply their learning in meaningful contexts. Throughout the year, that commitment came to life in tangible ways, from Preschool through Upper School.

LOWER SCHOOL

Making Learning Visible

In Lower School, teachers employed a personalized, small-group, data-informed approach that met every learner where they were and built the pathway forward from there. Through station rotations and ongoing formative assessment, students developed foundational literacy and numeracy skills alongside the collaboration and problem-solving abilities that will serve them throughout their lives. Just as importantly, they developed ownership of their own learning.

That ownership was on display throughout the year in a series of interdisciplinary showcases that brought families, MVXperts, and community members into the learning.

• Grade 1 students explored the wonders and mysteries of space, integrating science, literacy, and research to co-construct an Out-of-This-World Play for parents in conjunction with the Connections team. Grade 2 MVExpert Wade Nichols shared his Space Club expertise to help launch the unit and guide students as they began their own space exploration.

• Grade 3 students connected their animal studies to real-world design, collaborating with senior intern Michael Fennelly ’26 to imagine, build, and test birdhouses in Maker.

• Grade 5 students examined the Renaissance, connecting innovation, culture, art, and discovery in ways that felt less like a history unit and more like a time machine—lying beneath their desks to experience what it may have been like for Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel.

In each case, MVXperts were part of the equation: professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who stepped into classrooms and showcases to connect academic learning with the world students will one day help lead.

Meeting Learners Where They Are

In Middle School, the Grade 7 Cell Analogy Project offered a window into what Mount Vernon learning looked like at its best. Students didn’t just study the cell. They designed analogies that connected cellular biology to real systems they already understood: cities, sports teams, factories, and ecosystems. By aligning disciplines, grounding science in real-world relevance, and empowering students to create rather than consume, the project transformed a traditional unit into something far more memorable.

While experiences like these demonstrated the power of intentionally designed learning that fosters student agency and deep understanding, Middle School also celebrated an important milestone in how learners were supported on their individual journeys.

BOOST PROGRAM: Inaugural Cohort Complete

When Mount Vernon introduced the Boost Program last year, the goal was clear: to provide a structured literacy program that expands pathways for students in their academic journey and serves as a bridge into and through Middle School.

This year, the inaugural cohort of eleven Grade 6 students participated in the program. They entered with different starting points and left with something shared: greater confidence, stronger independence, and tangible evidence that the right support at the right time can change everything.

Following the success of the inaugural cohort, Mount Vernon has announced plans to expand Boost into Lower School next year, extending this commitment to meeting learners where they are even earlier in their educational journey.

UPPER SCHOOL

Designing Learning with Purpose

In Upper School, personalized pathways were no longer a vision on paper. They were a daily reality. Through the Inquiry, Innovation, and Impact Pathways, alongside signature programs such as iProject, the Innovation Diploma, and the Global Impact Diploma, students designed learning experiences calibrated to their passions, strengths, and aspirations. They collaborated with mentors and industry experts, tackled real-world challenges, conducted original research, launched entrepreneurial initiatives, and built community partnerships that will matter far beyond graduation.

GLOBAL IMPACT DIPLOMA: Inaugural Cohort Completed Year One

Introduced in the previous year’s Impact Report, the Global Impact Diploma crossed an important threshold this year: the inaugural cohort successfully completed its freshman year.

For 17 days across five provinces in Costa Rica, students studied on the Texas Tech University campus and engaged in immersive, place-based learning that tested everything they had been building: cultural awareness, collaboration, adaptive problem-solving, and the kind of global citizenship that only comes from genuine encounters.

The experience reflected Mount Vernon’s conviction that preparing learners to lead with empathy and impact in an interconnected world requires more than a classroom. It requires the world itself.

MOUNT VERNON SCHOOL ONLINE:

Expanding Access and Flexibility

Mount Vernon School Online (MVSO) expanded opportunities for Upper School students to personalize how, when, and where they learned, supporting those whose academic, athletic, artistic, entrepreneurial, and personal commitments extended beyond a traditional school schedule, while keeping them connected to the Mount Vernon community.

MVSO operated through three primary models.

1. On campus, students used MVSO courses to create flexibility within their schedules, opening space for internships, independent projects, travel, and specialized coursework. Eighteen students participated in hybrid learning during the year.

2. Through MVSO+ Access, students completed all academic coursework online while participating in Mount Vernon’s extracurricular life on campus, including athletics, arts, clubs, and community experiences.

3. MVSO also served as a fully online student experience for learners outside the Atlanta area and around the world.

Across all models, more than 100 Upper School students enrolled in MVSO courses, including 116 students in Mod 5, along with additional students completing internships embedded within MVSO coursework.

Jacob

Moran, Class of 2026

Jacob began his Mount Vernon experience in Grade 7. When he got to Upper School, he was a hybrid learner, balancing on-campus classes with MVSO coursework. As his professional acting career accelerated, he transitioned fully online through MVSO to create the flexibility required for auditions, travel, and on-set work. The fully online model allowed him to maintain academic momentum and connection to the Mount Vernon community while pursuing opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Class of 2028

Ricky participates in MVSO from Florida, where he is part of an elite travel baseball program. Through the fully online model, he completes all academic coursework remotely while competing at a high level in athletics. MVSO enables him to maintain academic continuity and rigor without compromising the demands of his training and competition schedule.

Global MVSO Graduates

This year, seven MVSO seniors completed their Mount Vernon education from The Dewey Schools in Vietnam, representing the continued expansion of fully online learning for globally based students. These graduates remained engaged in Mount Vernon’s academic program and community while learning across time zones and international contexts.

TARGET 2: RELATIONSHIPS & NETWORKS

LEARNING THROUGH CONNECTION

Relationships are foundational to learning; they are not a supplement to it, they are the medium through which learning deepens. Across every division, students were consistently challenged to engage with their interests, talents, and aspirations while developing the empathy, collaboration, and leadership skills necessary to contribute meaningfully within and beyond the Mount Vernon community.

Throughout the year, inquiry-based projects, mentorship experiences, travel opportunities, and community partnerships reinforced a clear pattern: learning at its strongest is relational. Students did not simply complete assignments or engage with content in isolation; they worked with people: peers, teachers, professionals, and community partners. And, in doing so, they expanded the networks that informed their thinking and growth.

Building Social Capital Through MVXperts

Across both campuses, MVXperts continued to serve as a powerful connector between classroom learning and real-world application, linking students with professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who bring ideas to life.

Grade 5 Impact Summit Experiences

For Grade 5 learners, the Summit experience made collaboration tangible and immediate. Student teams partnered directly with Atlanta-area organizations, engaging in authentic problem-solving and communication with real stakes. This year’s partners included:

Innovation Diploma

At the Upper Campus, the Innovation Diploma continued to deepen its emphasis on applied, interdisciplinary learning through sustained partnerships with industry leaders and mission-driven organizations. This year included new and expanded collaborations with:

• Corporate Design Briefs: LEGO, Inspire Brands (Buffalo Wild Wings, Arby’s, Dunkin), Delta Air Lines, Coldwell Banker, Rivian Automotive, Antico Pizza, The Ice Box, FutureVerse

• Non-Profit Design Briefs: Love Beyond Walls, Dunwoody Preservation Trust, Vescent, Youth Spark, The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University

Students engaged in complex, real-world challenges that required them to integrate research, design thinking, systems analysis, and storytelling. These were not hypothetical exercises; they were co-developed with partners working at the intersection of innovation and impact. In doing so, students experienced how professional collaboration functions as an engine for creativity, iteration, and meaningful outcomes.

Across both Lower and Upper Campus experiences, one theme is clear: when students learn through connection, they build relationships, networks, and the capacity to contribute in the world beyond the classroom.

TARGET 3: RESEARCH & INNOVATION

ONE STORY, ONE COMMUNITY: The All-School Read

This year’s All-School Read, Hidden Potential by Adam Grant, invited students, faculty, families, and alumni into a shared exploration of growth, character, learning, and the conditions that help people thrive. Across divisions and disciplines, the book sparked conversations about what it means to develop talent, pursue excellence, and create environments where every learner can succeed.

The impact of the experience extended well beyond campus. Following Mount Vernon’s selection of Hidden Potential as the All-School Read, Molly Hudson, Head of Lower School, was invited by Harpo Productions to join Adam Grant and Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Podcast to discuss the book and its application within educational communities. The conversation elevated Mount Vernon’s work to a national audience and positioned the School as a contributor to broader conversations about learning, development, and human potential.

Closer to home, Mount Vernon Ventures expanded the dialogue through a virtual book club that connected families, alumni, and friends of the School around the same ideas. Together, these experiences demonstrated how a shared text can become a catalyst for inquiry, reflection, and collective learning, reinforcing Mount Vernon’s commitment to research-informed practice and innovation in education.

RDI AI TEAMS: Exploring What's Coming

This year, three Research, Design and Iteration (RDI) Teams focused on AI brought faculty and staff into honest, rigorous conversations about artificial intelligence and its evolving role in education to enahnce human creativity.

Teams investigated how AI can enhance creativity, efficiency, assessment, and personalized learning while simultaneously examining the ethical considerations and responsibilities that new technologies demand. These conversations didn't just inform lesson plans. They are shaping a future-ready approach to teaching and learning that keeps human-centered design at the center of every decision.

COUNCIL ON INNOVATION: Thinking Forward, Designing Now

The Council on Innovation (COI) continued to serve as Mount Vernon’s engine for strategic thinking and future-focused design, convening leaders, educators, external experts, and innovators to translate emerging trends into actionable direction for the School.

This year’s work centered on a future-thinking design sprint experience in which participants developed plausible scenarios for the next 5–10 years. The Council explored two guiding questions:

• What skills will be most essential for entry-level workers to be successful?

• What kind of workplace environment will foster growth and success?

Through scenario design and multigenerational discussions, participants engaged with students and examined the implications of AI, automation, hybrid work, and shifting human skill demands, moving from broad trend analysis to concrete implications for teaching, learning, and design.

The result was a clearer, shared vision of what the future may require, and a strengthened commitment to designing a school that does not simply respond to change, but anticipates and helps shape it.

Investing in the People Who Make It Possible

A school is only as innovative as the educators who teach in it. Mount Vernon knows this and invests accordingly.

The Mount Vernon Employee Excellence Program or the MOVEE Program, as we like to call it, serves as an innovative, competency-based framework that aligns professional growth with recognition and compensation, supporting the recruitment, development, and retention of the educators and staff who make transformational learning possible. Built around clearly defined levels of mastery, MOVEE provides educators with pathways to grow from developing practitioners to advanced and leader-level contributors, with expectations and opportunities aligned to increasing impact across the School.

This year marked the launch of the first 2026 cohort, bringing together 46 educators and staff who began advancing through the program’s structured levels of growth, demonstrating competencies across instructional design, collaboration, leadership, and innovation practice. The cohort experience created a shared language for professional excellence while also making growth visible, actionable, and supported.

In parallel, Mount Vernon received confirmation of a $250,000 matching Educational Leadership Grant from the E.E. Ford Foundation, recognizing the School’s forward-thinking approach and directly supporting the next phase of MOVEE’s evolution. After the School raises $250,000, the E.E. Ford grant will double the funds, which will be used to scale and automate key components of the program, strengthen systems for tracking competencies, personalize professional pathways, and expand access to growth opportunities across divisions.

Together, MOVEE and the E.E. Ford investment accelerated a shared commitment: to build the infrastructure for educator excellence at scale, ensuring that those who design learning experiences are continuously supported in developing their own craft.

TARGET 4: CULTURE & CONNECTION

Culture at Mount Vernon is not accidental; it is cultivated by people and structures dedicated to ensuring belonging. Culture is designed with intention, measured with care, and nurtured in every learning space which includes classrooms, hallways, shared meals, and gatherings.

The Office of IDEA leads the work of designing environments where all can thrive by shaping community culture through professional learning for faculty and staff, partnering with Divisions to support students’ spiritual lives, and building global and cultural proficency. The Office of IDEA strategically supports programs that are grounded in data and research while listening to the stories of MV community members to enhance relationships. This work, the science of belonging, brings learning, identity, and community into focus.

Throughout the year, students engaged in a rhythm of experiences that strengthen culture, deepen connection, and make belonging possible for all. A few examples include:

Each of these moments reflects the broader user-centered design principle that education, engagement, and experience deepen capacity for empathy which our students reflect back to us through the Authentic Connections survey results.

For five consecutive years, we've partnered with Authentic Connections, an independent third-party survey, to measure student wellbeing, not through assumptions, but through direct student voice.

From Lower School through Upper School, students report strong emotional and social wellbeing, consistent across the full PS–12 experience.

Belonging and wellbeing aren't just feel-good metrics; research consistently links them to academic engagement, attendance, and long-term outcomes. Scores above 90% place Mount Vernon well above most schools nationally.

BASE CAMP: Building the Foundation for Purpose

One example of such programming, grounded in RDI research, is Base Camp: Foundations for Impact—a structured entry point into purpose-driven learning to take place before students reach their Summit experiences in Grades 5, 8, and 11.

Base Camp integrates mindfulness, gratitude practices, community connection, and rigorous academic exploration. It is not an add-on to wellness programming; it is an experience designed to promote self-efficacy, and will be the foundational experience for how students begin to discover purpose — something that is meaningful to self and consequential to others.

This year, Grade 3 students piloted Base Camp in partnership with Mount Vernon Village, designing a Memorial Day experience that connected historical reflection, community engagement, and student voice.

SUSTAINABILITY WITH PURPOSE: Learning Made Visible

Last but not least, The Impact Ready Project calls us to design for ways we might honor the resources we have in our community. The experiences and work we do each day have both social and environmental impact. Through Target 4, we are building our own Environmental and Social Governance standards to design a better world. The installation of solar panels across campus reflects both operational commitment and pedagogical intent. Reducing environmental impact matters, but equally important is what students learn when values are made visible in physical space.

These systems are not only generating renewable energy. They are generating inquiry: How do systems work? What does stewardship require? How do institutions align values with action?

Ocean Durden & David Song presented their G5 Impact Summit and solar panel ideas to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer and Director of Facilities.

In this way, sustainability becomes more than a concept—it becomes an ongoing, lived curriculum in systems thinking and responsible design.

Culture at Mount Vernon is not a single initiative. It is an ecosystem designed intentionally, sustained collectively, and made real through daily acts of connection, care, and contribution.

ARTS AT MOUNT VERNON

MAKER, ARTS, DESIGN & ENGINEERING

WHERE CREATIVITY BECOMES A CORE LANGUAGE

The arts at Mount Vernon are not an enhancement to an academic program; they are a core discipline of learning. Through MADE (Maker, Arts, Design, and Engineering), students engage in creative practice as a way of thinking, problem-solving, and making meaning in the world. Across every division, MADE serves as a shared language for originality, collaboration, communication, and identity formation.

This year, that language was visible everywhere, from Preschool explorations to national stages, affirming that creativity at Mount Vernon is not peripheral; it is foundational.

INAUGURAL ARTS AWARDS GALA

The inaugural MV Arts Gala, held on May 14, brought the entire community together for an immersive evening of performance, exhibition, and recognition. The event showcased the full spectrum of MADE disciplines through student performances, gallery installations, interactive experiences, and awards honoring artistic excellence.

More than a showcase, the evening reflected a core belief: student artistry is not something to be displayed at the end of a process, but something to be witnessed, celebrated, and honored as it develops. Across every space—from stage to studio—students shared work that was deeply personal, technically rigorous, and boldly expressive.

DESIGNING THROUGH INQUIRY

Across divisions, MADE learning experiences are structured around inquiry, iteration, and interdisciplinary connection.

In the Upper School, Portfolio Mentorship students engaged in professional-level creative development, building portfolios that demonstrate not only technical skill but conceptual depth and personal vision. In the Middle School, MADE experiences challenged students to integrate design thinking, engineering principles, and artistic expression in ways that required both experimentation and collaboration. In the Lower School, students explored identity and storytelling through a graffiti-inspired unit, working collectively on large-scale visual compositions that required shared authorship and problem-solving.

The ground was prepared for the new field and track, giving the Mount Vernon Community a glimpse into our new expanded campus footprint.

EARLY SPRING 2026

Surface for the new track was laid. Thanks to thoughtful planning we were able to keep 2.5 acres of mature trees, which makes our new field and track complex not only state of the art, but a beautiful area nestled in the trees.

SPRING 2026

Both general and ADA compliant access pathways were added for acessiblity into the new complex, turf for the field was laid, landscaping was added.

SUMMER 2026

Thanks to the generosity of the Streck Family, our largest LDT Campaign donor, Mount Vernon’s second field, the Streck Family Field will be ready for practices and games starting Fall 2026.  The field is surrounded by the 6 lane, Wood Family Track, which will be available for Cross Country and Track seasons starting Fall 2026.

What does the Annual Fund make possible?

Through the “Are You In?” video series, families and supporters watched how Lower School students were taken off campus for science expeditions in nature reserves, Upper School students were immersed in robotic surgery at an anatomy lab, coaches mentored the whole student beyond athletics, and faculty guide each student toward a future that fits who they are and who they hope to become.

This year, the Annual Fund also transformed our gym, with a new floor, new paint, and a newly revised space for our Mustangs to shine. Not only that, the Annual Fund has supported upgrading our audiovisual equipment, honoring the performances of our student speakers and performers.

The Benjamin Reiser Foundation Scholarship was established this year in memory of Benji Reiser, a Mount Vernon junior whose unexpected passing left a profound impact on the community. The scholarship stands as both a tribute to his legacy and a commitment to the values he embodied as a learner and community member.

AN EVENING OF CELEBRATION AND IMPACT: Gala 2026

Some events do more than raise funds; they strengthen the connections that allows a school community to thrive. The biannual Gala continued that role this year, bringing together families, alumni, faculty, and supporters for an evening of celebration and shared purpose.

Held at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead on Friday, February 6, the Moonlight Masquerade Gala transformed the evening into an immersive experience that reflected both the creativity and generosity of the Mount Vernon community.

Proceeds from the evening directly supported critical campus priorities, including enhanced security infrastructure and technology upgrades across the School. These investments ensured that learning environments remained safe, connected, and equipped for the evolving needs of students and educators.

There are few days on the Mount Vernon calendar quite like Mustang Rally.

What began as students parading from the baseball/softball field to Ron Hill Field, cheered on by their most adoring fans, quickly became a fullscale celebration of community, connection, and Mustang spirit. Students, faculty, families, alumni, and friends gathered for a day filled with energy and excitement—from carnival rides and games to snow cones, a zipline, and a petting zoo that delighted learners of every age.

For the second year in a row, the Rally Stage brought the community together through live performances, showcasing students' talents across divisions and creating moments of joy, laughter, and applause throughout the day.

Of course, Mustang Rally is more than a day of fun. It is one of the clearest expressions of what makes Mount Vernon special: people showing up for one another. Student leaders took the lead. Sponsors invested in the experience. Families cheered from the sidelines. A school with a bold mission requires a financial foundation built with equal intention. Mount Vernon’s financial model is rooted in a clear conviction: every dollar exists in service of students. As a non-profit institution, the School reinvests resources directly into students, faculty, and programs with a modest operating surplus reserved for debt service and the long-term health of the institution.

The goal is for steady financial stewardship while maintaining a foundation that remains strong across all years; one that sustains the mission today and protects the school’s ability to serve Mustangs well into the future.

2025–26 OPERATING REVENUE: $43.7M

Mount Vernon’s revenue reflects a model designed for resilience. Tuition is the primary driver of operational funding, supporting core instructional programs, faculty compensation, and the daily work of learning across all divisions. This year, $2.5M in financial assistance was awarded, returning meaningful resources to families who demonstrate need and ensuring that a Mount Vernon education remains within reach. Nearly three-quarters of every dollar goes directly to the people who serve students: competitive compensation, benefits, professional growth, and employee wellness. BUILDING FOR THE LONG TERM

Responsible stewardship means planning not just for the students who are here today, but for every Mustang who will walk these halls in the decades ahead.

This year, Mount Vernon established a dedicated Deferred Maintenance Fund — a structured commitment to setting aside capital each year for the planned repair, renewal, and replacement of campus assets. It is a quiet investment, and one of the most important the School can make.

OLIVER SCHOUEST

CLASS OF 2021

Oliver graduated from UGA with a degree in Management Information Systems. He works full time at AllPoints ATL, a rapidly growing 3PL company, while also running his own IT consulting and management company on the side. He recently took on his first internship and purchased his first home in April 2026.

RUTHIE ROBERTS

CLASS OF 2020

Ruthie started law school at Baylor University School of Law. She was elected 1L Vice President of the Student Bar Association, 1L liaison for the Mental Health Society, and a Student Ambassador.

Robert and Maya met sophomore year at MV and have been together for 10 years before getting married in May 2026. Maya’s older brother, Jacob ‘16 and Robert’s younger brother, Justin ‘21 were both in the wedding party. The newlyweds live in Santa Monica, CA.

Maqueline started her third year of medical school and passed the Step 1 exam.

Jonathan has spent the last few years working in live production and TV sports broadcasting, and recently started his first day working on the FIFA World Cup.

Chandler is the founder of Spring & Stitch™, a handcrafted active furniture brand she launched earlier this year. She holds the patent on active furniture for the trampoline ottoman, making Spring & Stitch the original and only patented creator in this category. The company licenses its trademarks and patents into the play furniture and fitness furniture space and has been featured in MSN, Business Insider, and Martha Stewart. She is also building alongside her husband, founder of an AI MarTech company based in Atlanta.

Impact is measured not only by achievements and outcomes, but by lives transformed, relationships strengthened, and futures shaped through purposeful learning.

This year's stories reflect a community united around a bold vision for education—one that prepares learners not simply to navigate the future, but to design it. As we celebrate what has been accomplished, our eyes remain fixed on what comes next.

In the year ahead, lights will illuminate Ron Hill Field, new athletic teams will create additional opportunities for participation and leadership, and we will continue exploring the balance between emerging technologies and distinctly human ingenuity. As artificial intelligence reshapes the world around us, we remain committed to cultivating curiosity, empathy, critical thinking, and creativity in every learner.

Most importantly, we will continue exploring a question that feels increasingly relevant: What does it mean to create? Across every division and discipline, we look forward to discovering how creativity fuels innovation, deepens learning, and shapes a future no machine can fully predict.
