The MJLC is an abolitionist discussion/study group that uses criticism to examine the widespread harms of the carceral state. In addition, we use what we learn and discuss in study group to produce a magazine. The theme of this Spring 2023 Issue is "Renaissance." As an abolitionist movement, the MJLC aims to examine Renaissance as a prerequisite to revolution. Renaissance is a call for rebirth, re-awakening, a demand for change and the re-evaluation of the system. All pieces contained in this issue submitted by writers, activists, and thinkers may also work as a vehicle to make others conscious towards something.
Many thanks to the UW English Department for their support for the study group and publication, along with all of the great organizations with whom we collaborated for events and articles. Additionally, a major thank you to the UW-Madison's Division of the Arts' Artivism Student Action Program (ASAP). Without their generous grant, the Spring 2023 MJLC Edition would not have been possible.
